HANG ON A ROPE OR BATED BREATH, WHICHEVER YOU PREFER.

canceling the apocalypse.
" big words coming from someone quoting the prayers of your home on a constant basis. which book did you pluck this one out of? hm? has justice been lending you books since you've been around? i would be careful -- his taste in literature leaves some to be desired. "
Could you tell us more about Simon and birds?
meta topics.
simon's interest in birds was just that growing up: an interest. he was just the kid who got extremely interested in them, particularly because he spent a lot of time at public libraries while aura was doing research for school or work and he needed to be quietly entertained while it happened.
about ten thousand words later sprinkled through various nature books, he was just obsessed with them. the way they worked, the way they lived, the way nature had created such creatures. it had originally been a passing fancy that grew into a genuine interest and hobby. birdwatching was a favorite of his before imprisonment.
taka's care is a special case -- she's a nesting hawk in one of the courtrooms in the courthouse. they called to have her removed and simon noted that removing her would cause extreme stress on her, so he offered to keep an eye on her. now she's bonded to him & she keeps the courthouse free of mice and rats and pigeons. she doesn't leave the courthouse often, and he never takes her to his actual home, because she is still a wild creature at heart.
god forbid I ever stop feeling sorry for myself for being selfish!
family........
meta topics.
oh, family is a terribly touchy subject for simon. it's awful. it's absolutely terrible.
i think he and aura were born abroad and came to the states to escape Something (it was likely aura's idea and she had been simon's caretaker for long enough by then that leaving him behind was not an option to her) and then they ended up in the states. just two kids with NO IDEA what they're gonna do.
simon has zero idea if their parents are alive and he doesn't care! he really doesn't! aura was his caretaker long enough that he doesn't care!
and that's kind of why his decision to protect athena and throw himself at the legal system's whims was............................a stressor on them i'm sure. they had only had each other for so long and now they were doing shit like THAT for other people????
he and aura are both estranged-but-also-not by the end of dual destinies. he wants to make amends, but she's still rightfully angry about everything and that's just gonna take time and him visiting her on all the major holidays until she finally decides to see him.
send me a topic to write a meta about my muse on
I might write anything from a paragraph to a whopping essay, but send me something you’ve noticed about my characterisation or just something you want to know about my muse and I will write what I can!
kay.
note taken. seeing as he’s some free time, &&. while the streets seem empty for a brief splice in the day, kay takes a leap. hands jump, ignorant of taka as her own nosy little beak slips in for a peck. it’s sweet, tender, but bruisingly forced forward. it’s more of a brash bump of their lips &&. noses, but it’s enough to signal just how much the thief missed a fellow counterpart. as she rebounds onto her full soles &&. waddles back, kay claps her hands in a full arms splayed swing.
“ it’s a date then! dinner &&. a show, huh? guess we’re celebrating, to freedom! ” she gives a little twirl, sending scarf fluttering before she takes off down the sidewalk in a trot. ( hope you walk fast, blackquill ; she’s speedy. ) “ c’mon! we’re gonna be swamped by the dinner rush if we don’t start flappin’ now! ”
oh, but where are her manners. tongue blips out sideways with a splay of two fingers by her cheek as she glances back over shoulder to the prosecutor. “ your songbird’s leaving her gilded cage ; you comin’? ”
she crashes into him and it draws a startled little noise from both the prosecutor and the hawk perched ‘pon him, making owner and bird match in their puffed-up appearances for a brief moment. in that moment, kay manages a head start on him, bounding up the sidewalk with her scarf trailing.
it’s not hard for him to keep up. his legs are longer, so he can make up more distance with less energy, but he lets her run ahead of him for a while anyways.
“ yes, yes, I’m right behind you. ”
and he is, always keeping her in sight even if he walks slower than she does. the idea of beating the dinner rush is very appealing though, because there’s too many people in the city to consider being in a very crowded restaurant.
“ go on, I’m coming right along. ”
kay.
oo, a pleasant tune this raven sings. she perks, the faraday sure to flutter her fingers by her hips as she stands upon tiptoes. “ so the jailbird spreads his wings at last? hope you learned a thing or two while caged up. by the by, i hope you’ve been okay! i dunno if the cards went through, but every month i sent letters &&. cards to wish you well on your civilian rehabilitation! ” always thoughtful, to a fault.
“ so, simon . . . have you, y’know. actually had a chance to spread your wings? some things have changed around town, &&. well. i dunno? i was hoping to take ema out for ramen but unfortunately she cancelled last minute. ” hands flap again, this time swinging up to perch knuckles upon either cheek. see how her feathers shimmer in the light? “ think you have a window to sneak catching up in? ”
“ spreads his wings indeed. . .yes, I received your mail. I still have much of it. ”
he doesn’t, in fact, still have it -- but he won’t break her heart with that. it had been a matter of lack-of-space in his cell and the fact that the reminder atop his looming execution date had been too much to bear.
“ I’ve visited. . .some old places. there are a few shops in town that I remember going to with Aura, but they’ve closed in the years I was away. the soba place I enjoyed is still around, thankfully, but otherwise -- no, no I haven’t been many places yet.
if you wanted to invite me to dinner, you simply have to ask. edgeworth doesn’t have me taking cases again quite yet. . .so yes, I have the free time. ”
kay.
“ pff - excited is ONE WAY of phrasing it, two-tone! let’s just say a little birdy sung by my window &&. reminded me ‘a you. ” kay notes how taka takes to the taller individual, something that makes her palms itch. she craves physical touch, whether it’s ghosting her hands along a wall or grabbing at someone’s clothes to hitch on.
in this case, hand darts from her side to pat at simon’s pec, just a few friendly swats in promised greeting. “ guessin’ you’re not used to visitors? s’okay! jus’ gotta make sure you’re not runnin’ off on mister edgeworth this time. ” said finger swipes under her nose, a giggle fronted for confidence. “ or am i that criminal that you’re intimidated? ”
“ you’ll have to be much more criminal to intimidate me, songbird. I will admit, however -- yes, I am unused to visitors nowadays. I had fewer before and few since my release. ”
he doesn’t shy away from the double pat on his coat, smoothing a hand over taka’s feathers when she puffs up at someone stepping into their shared space.
“ prosecutor edgeworth should have no worries about my running off of any kind. he and i have an understanding, or so I thought. ”
though. . .perhaps he hadn’t checked in at the office like he should.
kay.
@hidestruth
“ ctctctct, here pretty birdy! c’mere, i won’t bite! much. ” kay, stop catcalling simon.
“ it would do you good to be careful -- you may not bite, but this bird might. ”
taka preens at his hair, plucks a loose hair and presses her face into the side of his head, a sweet trill leaving him.
“ you’re very excited. what occasion do I have to thank for that? ”
