He's making an effort to help her out, taking the case as soon as it crossed his desk. They wouldn't let Simon touch this one, and he didn't trust the other prosecutors in the office to give her the time of day to listen to her situation (except, perhaps, Edgeworth -- but considering Edgeworth was finishing the paperwork for the other Blackquill case. . .)

oh, family is a terribly touchy subject for simon. it's awful. it's absolutely terrible.

i think he and aura were born abroad and came to the states to escape Something (it was likely aura's idea and she had been simon's caretaker for long enough by then that leaving him behind was not an option to her) and then they ended up in the states. just two kids with NO IDEA what they're gonna do.

simon has zero idea if their parents are alive and he doesn't care! he really doesn't! aura was his caretaker long enough that he doesn't care!

and that's kind of why his decision to protect athena and throw himself at the legal system's whims was............................a stressor on them i'm sure. they had only had each other for so long and now they were doing shit like THAT for other people????

he and aura are both estranged-but-also-not by the end of dual destinies. he wants to make amends, but she's still rightfully angry about everything and that's just gonna take time and him visiting her on all the major holidays until she finally decides to see him.
