Rocky and Adrian bringing their younger set of pebble children to visit their weird fleshy uncles!

I personally imagine both Ryland and Simon take a while to adjust and be comfortable with physical touch, despite both being touch starved as well (thanks to trauma ;u;). So this would take place well after the long burn of slowly and naturally allowing themselves to feel safe and secure with each other to close that space. It's hard for them to trust anyone again, but I like to believe they choose to trust each other in the end.

the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

rocky has been planning this whole speech in his head for years about how he loves adrian so much and always will but he has fundamentally changed during this mission and cannot imagine any version of events where he's not by grace's side for the rest of his short life, that grace is his partner and his best friend and his love and he's changed the way he speaks and sings to better suit grace's ears, has a permanent melody that uses grace's heartbeat as a metronome, and he love love loves his mate and has waited to see them again for so long, but if they want him to give up grace he doesn't think that is something he'd be capable of,

and then when adrian actually meets grace they can't stop purring and they're saying 🎶hero grace. saved stars, saved planets. saved adrian mate. love love love.🎶 they're using a courting frequency.

grace likes their voice. cuddles up to them when they watch him sleep. they talk about science, and culture. sometimes rocky just listens to them talk.

"you're thinking too loud, rock," grace says. adrian has one of their limbs around him and chirps in agreement. "something wrong?"

🎶no,🎶 says rocky. 🎶everything perfect.🎶

my personal take on the matter

Tim had always wanted a little sibling, a brother or sister would do, and as an only child with only his parents as known relatives with no cousins, he felt he was in an especially dire situation when he'd been met with a solid no Tim yes I know you'd be a totally cool absolutely amazing and responsible big brother, but little kids are not pets and need actual adult over three feet height supervision and your dad and I don't have the time and sorry to say this but you're already quiet the handful for your nanny so Tim, all of ten and too clever for his own good and with a perfectly great example from Mr. Friendly Neighborhood BatWayne, then decided to go to the parks in search for a kid sibling because that's usually where a lot of kids were when Ivy wasn't out and about.

Anyways, long story short after much careful scouting for a potential baby sibling that would check all of the two requirements of being cute and saying yes when asked if they wanted a brother, Tim got himself a baby brother who thought Batman, Robin, and riddles were cool (he was perfect!) and made to sort out the schedule between them.

The baby brother having his own different set of parents was perfectly fine as Tim's own parents already didn't want another kid so he considered it fair enough. His parents don't get another kid and Tim does get a baby brother, and his baby brother gets all the ice cream he could ever want bought by Big Brother Tim, which means Baby Brother doesn't have to ask his parents for any and they don't have to deny him like adults do and their kid don't nurse a five year long grudge on them that manifests in psychological warfare. Win-win all around.

Perfect plan, really, worthy of the Batman himself.

Only one problem.

Duke Thomas did not look anything like Tim Drake.

They still somehow concoct a perfectly airtight cover story.

(Sometimes Tim is Tim Thomas, Sometimes Duke is Duke Drake.)
