“Jack-A-Roe” Heralds 30 Days of Dead

The Day of the Dead is once again Day One for 30 Days of Dead.

The Grateful Dead’s annual month of daily free downloads-slash-giveaway contests kicked off Nov. 1 with a previously unreleased version of “Jack-A-Roe,” which, judging from the sounds of the keys, dates from early in the Brent Mydland era.

Such clues are important because folks who pick the show from whence the day’s song came are entered to win a 2021 GD wall calendar and will be eligible to win the month’s grand prize - a June 1976 box set.

A typically uptempo rendition, this “Jack-A-Roe” has another clue in Jerry Garcia’s muffed vocals in the waist is slender/fingers they are small verse.
