sam spends death stranding 1 completely terrified of touch, and at the end of the game, deadman is the only character we are shown him consensually touching. at the start of death stranding 2, we see sam respond coldly to fragile initiating touch (the woman i'm supposed to believe he's in love with by the end of the game, mind you) but attempt to tackle deadman in a hug the first chance he gets.

this ship is built upon these two recognizing (and in the recognition of, the manifestation of) the human in each other that they continue to deny themselves

the original name for death stranding 2: on the beach was actually death stranding 2: naked on the beach in reference to how higgs monaghan spends the majority of the game naked on the beach, but sony made kojima change it to just on the beach to appease sponsors.
