After going to a African and African American Studies ceremony today really had me thinking about the treatment of black and brown people in this country. There was just a small group of us black girls talking about it with one another and I just feel these conversations are so ancient these are the very things are ancestors spoke about. It just bothers me that the times have changed but the problems we face have not. The Book of negroes. My tears that fall are more ancient than the rise of white mans civilizations My people pains runs through my existence And it is deeper than the oceans crossed carrying their stolen souls So when we say to never forget the names of Mike Brown Trayvon Martin Alton Sterling Samuel Dubose Tamir Rice Yvette Smith Sean Bell Kendra James To speak them aloud Understand even more kings & queens of my history identities have been lost at the hand of this white man My people have bled for the country But very few of the names have bled fresh ink on these white textbook pages So when you read YOUR history of your revolution Know it was the backs of my ancestors That allowed you to stand & pledge your allegiance to this godforsaken land.
