I made a brand new animation featuring @pixpirs characters, using the song 化けの花(BAKENOHANA)by NAKISO!
The characters featured in this video are Locust and Azazel, from Death's Disciple. You can support Ona and read the stories on his website here! You can also read Disciple, and the prequel comic, Death's Desire on Webtoon as well.
model updates.........will be sharing lessons learned........
last time i shared something in regards to this model was back in november of last year whoops
in addition to my love it or hate it mindset in regards to making art, i also need to add getting it done is better than getting it perfect
idk i know with art there are No Rules but there definitely are standards and i hope to meet them and i hope to push myself with every model but i often find myself just over focusing on something so ridiculous and then oops.... some months pass by when i should have gotten that done and over with months ago
i don't hate this model enough to give up on it and i know it's not perfect but i do love it enough to want to see it to be a full model and to just try. idk i still hate how my vtuber model looks in my icon so i'd like to do better
i definitely took too long trying to create hair for him. i think it doesnt matter what kind of hair it is, i struggle with creating it. i think short hair in particular is challenging in 3d. i wasn't sure how to approach the hairstyle i wanted but you have to make each strand different otherwise it doesnt feel like you're communicating that the character has a head full of hair. in this case, i also had to layer up in the back and i think the bangs are good, but i need to touch up the side + back more.
one thing i did was look at what some artists have shared on booth, but i think that wasn't enough so i looked at some 3d models from popular gacha in regards to how they approach short hair. one thing the two have in common, is that it is completely fine to like. straight up just shove or directly place one strand on top of another. you can see this in ardashir's game model in arknights endfield, directly in the bangs they just have loose strands growing from one root point and outwards. their models have a beautiful quality to them and they communicate out his fluffy hair well by making each strand ends different from each other
the only thing i was worried about is how to go about texturing/painting the hair but i think i'm straight up going to do what endfield does for their models that have short hair LOL. i'd really like to touch up the back as soon as i'm done writing this post because i still dont think it communicates out a head full of hair. it's almost there but i need to differentiate the strands more
here are some random videos i collected to help me think more about short hair + hair in general (not in english though sorry)

also literally, just look at real life references especially if you have a hairstyle in mind, look at some hairstylists pages or smth, and even look at some of the 3d models released today in video games
as for the body, i actually kinda like this a lot more than my initial model. it is important to remember that shapes on the body are not always so clean and it is not so flat and you have to constantly shape things out. i wanted to give him a more.... bara-like/muscle-like body type but i think i was biting off more than i could chew and i was afraid that it wasn't fitting his face. which i still like btw but i think in the future i'd like to take more time in shaping out the face, i feel like the face itself is too big and should match the rest of the actual head shape better but oh well. i'm sticking with it because it's better than my current model LOL. anyways i think for next time, i will commit more to a muscle-like body type like the ones you see from slayful gay japanese artists. in addition to me giving him this body type i also wanted to create some homoerotic works in the future yayyy
well anyways there's more work for me to do, i need to go back and start addressing his hair so that way i feel satisfied and i feel like i communicated his hair correctly. i wonder what kind of clothes i'll give him this time....
i'd like to make more interesting compositions. i feel like i just need to do more full body stuff and have clear poses. even if i'm making stuff thats torso and above i should still try to make it interesting. i should also try different angles whenever i can as well since i feel like i make things too... flat idk how to word it. but i think i already summed it up pretty well earlier lol
in general i'd like to spend more time making art and continue studying and practicing as usual. currently i am focusing on trying to get my new vtuber model done LOL
idk what else to say here so thanks for reading, see you all next year hehe
It's Utena Tenjou's birthday, so I prepared a little animation that features my 3D models of Utena and Anthy to celebrate! The song featured in this animation is "Honeymoon Un・Deux・Trois" by DATEKEN featuring Kagamine Rin.
I'd like to give a special thanks to Empty Movement, I browsed their archives to use art from the official show for this animation. I'd also like to mention KayinNasaki and give thanks to them for their vector of the show's iconic rose frame as I used that for some scenes in this animation. I'd like to give thanks to sn for animating ATY's choreography for this song and releasing the motion data. Lastly, I'd also like to thank the artists and creators that made the assets (e.g. effects, stage, etc.) that I used in this video.

currently in the middle of working on my vtuber model
that initial model is kinda fucking me up because i really thought that was from 2022, but it turns out it was only a 3 month difference since that initial model and my current one now (aka the one made in 08/2023)... what is the passage of time
the one i made back in 12/29/2024 has been abandoned LOL. currently with art i am simply changing my mindset to love it or hate it. if i love it? great i'll keep working on it. if i hate it, i move on and make something new, i have no time to be hard on myself
although he is bald, i hope to work on the hair after i am certain i want to move forward. yesterday was a good progress because i wasn't sure how some modelers get that "sharp" jawline look for male characters and i've been wanting to challenge myself on achieving that look. as you can see in the 2024 attempt, i tried but it ended up being a too perfect shape and it ended up being very blocky overall for the face shape instead rather than the "sharp" line look. before i did my work yesterday, i was upset because his overall face + jawline was rounded out which isn't a bad thing but i still wanted that sharp look
i've basically only made one model this year and i am trying hard to put my notes + references all together for this project. i've been studying a lot, looking at 3d game models, other artists models, reading up on what illustrators have shared in regards to proportions and just trying my best to again, translate this to my work. i am very proud of how this face came out. my past models have always looked very awkward at other angles, as you can see above, but i think this time is much better. i just put this together to show my growth and i hope you can also see how i've changed
i think it's a bit hard to finish this model only because i realize i don't actually have a design. i'm not someone who's good at drawing LOL.... i just have references from my old vtuber model sheet, like clothes i want to style myself in/things i'd like to wear and some ideas i just have in my mind that i now must try to translate to my work. it might take longer for me for that reason and maybe i should have started making models of characters i've been meaning to create in 3d first but oh well. i'm happy with the progress i made
sorry that the screenshots of the faces weren't consistent, but for that second image in this post, i decided to finally just render the new model and set up the cameras correctly in blender LOL i haven't written something like this in a while but thank you for reading this far ^_^
