Two of the most acclaimed horror movies out this year have the greatest horror be a horny old women (X) or a naked deform old woman (The barbarian), the aging body of a woman is enough to be "body horror." Old women are the least likely among us to kill, there is no basis in reality for fear. They are our most vulnerable. So the real fear has to be aging features, the movie usually shows long breasts, unkempt thinning hair, deformity, or just sagging skin - framed as body horror. In these films about rape, kidnaping and pornography industry, the horror is just an aging woman. That always makes me itch ... And we wonder why women & girls are so petrified by any sign of aging on their face and bodies. Apparently we'll all become terror inducing. I personally can't wait! Maybe then we won't be victimized!

Thank you for this. The fear of the old spinster, the old crone, the old witch, is rooted in the misogynistic male belief that femaleness must be synonymous with fuckability and submission to patriarchy, otherwise we are “horrific.”

Women who reject this, women who fight back, women who carve their own path or simply don’t follow the rules, are therefore turned into monsters by patriarchs clinging to their own pathetic misogyny and fears of insignificance. Did y’all see them take down that Reddit post from the woman in her 60s who’s unmarried, never had sex, and living her absolute best life?

Patriarchs fear women seeing the truth and rejecting their hierarchy. So they have to try to keep women fearful of living outside of the hierarchy, they have to try to keep us dependent on our approval and acceptance within the hierarchy. They have to keep us separate from the old women who can tell us the truth.

I look forward to aging, and I’ve enjoyed the process so far. It’s not always easy, I definitely have a bit more back pain than I did when I was younger, but it’s a joy and gift to make it to old age. A joy and gift I hope to experience and will always treasure if I do.

Reminds me of my friend in high school who told me the scariest horror movie he'd ever seen was Goodnight Mommy and i watched it and nearly cried in sympathy for the mother instead. What scares men often doesn't terrify women, what scares women often doesn't terrify men.
