Today the Department of Phenomenal Papercraft is oohing and aahing over the work of Japanese artist Naoki Onogawa. Inspired by the ancient legend of 1000 Origami cranes and the story of Sadako Sasaki, Onogawa creates exquisite bonsai trees with miniature origami cranes for leaves.

“Since ancient times, Japanese people have been mindful of natural phenomenon. While confronting our fears of the natural world, we worship and co-exist in harmony with nature. As one symbol of nature, trees possess a life force which lies in all natural things,” Naoki writes on her blog. “I’ve tried to endow my artworks with this energy. Through looking at my works, I hope you can feel this life force too.”

Bottom photo is from last night as the forest fire burns through tons of material.

Our skies are a hazy orange color and it looks overcast but the current temp is 80 degrees. We are supposed to get thunderstorms tomorrow night which is a mixed blessing because we nee the rain but we don’t need lightening strikes to set off more fires.If anyone know of Multnomah Falls, the fire reached there this morning but the lodge was saved due to massive work by fire crews.

I wish the weather would even itself out and give us some of the rain that Hurricane Harvey dumped on the Houston and SE Texas area.

So unreal.

Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge, the area known for Multnomah Falls was set on fire yesterday by kids lighting off fireworks and is causing massive issues from smoke and ash to major evacuations of stranded hikers and towns full of scared and worried people. This is devastating both in loss of beauty and nature and of memories and homes of many folks here. Please send love. This is scary.
