The Cape Fear series recreating the fingers in mouth scene from the Scorsese movie but lesbian is so funny to me. Gay teens are reclaiming Max Cady's most vile actions, happy pride.
Glad I decided to rewatch both films in preparation for this. I am having a blast.
Watching Babylon 5 for the first time. The impression I got from hearing about these two in passing was their stuff together was going to be a later thing but the vibe is here from the start.
The moon has no light of its own. Of course a game about copies is so fixated on it--it can only reflect the sun's light. This is why the moon feels more representative of La Luz despite the other superpowers that have colonized it. It may be the end of history and everyone is there, but the Luzians still wish to further conquer it--or at least the image of it--with wolves and pop songs.
Hershel has two counterparts, Zoe in EMTERR and V in La Luz. And she can end up with two copies, Karolina and PSEUDOPOD.
Zoe and Hershel are defined by being raised by abusive or distant mothers, and both use spy work to process this. Hershel is the type who copes with her Shadow Mother by seeking approval of woman authority figures, like Mel. Zoe on the other hand adopts the traits of her abuser and expresses them using her personas.
V, despite being younger and an idol, is the closer counterpart to Hershel. They project themselves on to each other. If you pass the poetics check V will take Hershel's cryptonym as her new stage name. Both work in constructed identities, but like how Hershel's masks are just her at this point, V's music is still true to herself. And then there is something about both, their personas, that allows them to channel something from outside of themselves at different points of the game. You but from a Dream.
More than any other character in the game, Karolina shows you who Hershel really is. Here was a 16 year old that she left behind to be tortured. A 16 year old--that while it never crossed the line into something sexual--though there are certainly overtones--an adult woman groomed through movie nights and cool spy lies. Five years later and CASCADE's hold on her has never loosen. Her own Shadow Mother that she seeks the approval of and emulates. Everything involving Karolina in this game is heart breaking and fucked up. I love it.
And the end game has Hershel set up to do it again--ruin the life of another young person, between Yana and V.
I finished Zero Parades. Pynchon for gay gamers. It left me devastated, a game I am going to be chewing on for a long time. If Disco is warm and personal, Parades is cold and queer. In the end, my preference turned out to be for the latter.
The nice thing about being a fan of AEW and TJPW is they do a good job of filling up different parts of the himejoshi heart.
AEW is your pulp drama. Sal Jiang's Black and White for the wrestling fan. You also get a nice side of yaoi, which isn't my main dish by all means, but I won't say no if you put it in front of me.
With TJPW the waters run deeper. We are 20,000 leaguing here, pressure; the feelings are much heavier. Look, Rika Tatsumi is a special woman. You may not understand her, but I do. It's normal to see yourself in her. It is not a sign of a maladjusted personality. I think a love like that can be beautiful. It's OK, she just gets a bit excited sometimes.
