I SEE DEAD PEOPLE

I read about them, everyday.

These are people who are dead at 25 but aren’t buried until they’re 75*.

The scary part is that you can see them too.

Notice the girl who just boarded the gautrain, with her hair still damp from the shower.

Or the guy seated in the corner, nodding off intermittently on the commute to the rat wheel.

Or your colleague who missed the deadline on her monthly credit card bill.

Over time, they have come to accept that life after graduation is about chasing deadlines, taking on huge mortgages and going on vacations they can’t afford.

They fret about boredom, about how they feel overworked, stressed out, and exploited, but so little is being done to flip the stones of corporate monotony.

Try questioning them and you’ll get the classic “What else can I do?” or “Well, it pays the bills.” response.

These people are “dead”; nothing more than loan drones who drag their bodies to work everyday, so that the debt collector doesn’t come knocking on their doors.

And you know why they are not doing anything about it?

Perhaps, it’s because of one of these two options:

Lack of awareness of what is actually out there (most people can’t see the wood for the trees), and partly because of a person’s perception of himself. The latter is the more critical part. If a person does not value himself, he’ll not take any action in the right direction, no matter what alternatives may be staring him in the face.

OR

Simply because they fail to take action.

No one’s asking you jump off or even quit (well not yet anyway). All I’m saying is that you still have time to adjust your bearings by 5 degrees and this small incremental change will lead you onto a very different path, further down the road.

Have a plan. Earn more. Spend less. Invest the difference. Cultivate your passion. Be financially free.

Stop being a passive reader. Today, you are going to take action…..

After reading Jay talk about his relationship with bleek, what what really grabbed my attention is when Jay states that other people don’t realize just how much respect he has for Bleek. Jay respects Bleek’s character and security in himself.

The truth is the protégé doesn’t always eclipse his mentor. But through his own knowledge, experience and character, he earns the respect of his mentor and everyone else. People diss the role of the supporting player while they sit on the bench or watch the game from the cheap seats. I respect the team player as much as I respect the star. I was glad to see Jay talk a little about his relationship with Bleek in Decoded. I’m actually more intrigued by their bond and business relationship than Jay’s marriage to Beyonce. I think we should all take notice of how Jay and Bleek have hustled together through thick and thin.

The mentor/protégé relationship is a win-win and if the protégé is strong and secure in himself he one day becomes the mentor’s equal. You can learn a lot from listening and watching others who have both succeeded and failed many more times than you. I had a conversation on this very subject last night with a good friend of mine. Seek out guidance and direction from those who know more and have done more. And don’t try to reinvent the wheel, do what’s already proven. Hustle with those who share your passion, determination, thoroughness, curiosity, intelligence, persistence, confidence and most of all-respect.

The more you spend hating the less you spend hustling

As Jay-Z stated preemptively, some people are likely to take his words as arrogance. But if you know the principles of success and have learned the lessons of failure, then Jay’s statement will strike you as profound. When you hate on someone else’s hustle it adversely impacts you more than it does the person who is the recipient of your hate. Though hating has certainly gone on long before the Internet, the web has really given the anonymous person a platform to hate, hate, hate….on blogs, forums, Twitter, Facebook, etc., on anyone who is doing their thing in life. If you invest so much energy hating - how are you going to have enough strength, skill and stamina to hustle, hustle, hustle in your own life?

It seems that in this era, too many of us no longer seek inspiration, but validation of our cynicism. Spending time and energy trying to discredit the next man’s (or woman’s) success does not increase the probability of your success. Another person’s success or failure doesn’t determine your fate. Many of us hate so much that it’s as if we’re praying for the next man’s downfall. Why is that? His setbacks WILL NOT move you forward.

Now, let’s be clear: criticism has value but constant hate will only leave you bankrupt figuratively and even literally.

Back in the 90′s Hov spoke of plans to create the opportunity for generations of wealth for his family and friends, these business deals are the way to do that. Gotta give him props for pretty much always knowing the right move!

The Strongest Currency In The World

I know this is a hip hop blog however this is too profound not to share.

 Imagine if someone gave you R10,080 every week. The only condition being that you had to spend every single penny before the end of the week or your weekly deposits would cease. You can’t put it in a savings account, give it away, contribute it towards monthly costs or store it anywhere. Basically, you have to spend it within the week. Bet you would have a long list of places you want to travel to, things you would need to buy and do, especially in the 1st, 2nd and maybe even until the 10th week. But I guarantee, you will eventually get to a point where you feel that you have more than enough money and (God forbid) some may even feel that you have too much money. Some people may also feel they’re being selfish and need to share! 

Let me open your eyes to something. You do have 10,080 each week, but in the strongest currency on the planet: TIME. Every week you have 10,080 minutes deposited into your life, and how do you use them? How do you spend your time? Do you invest it in things that bring no return? Waste it? Do you spend it complaining that it’s not enough to share? You need to understand that time is the strongest currency you own, because if used wisely it reaps great rewards. It’s one thing that once it is spent it can’t be taken back. I urge you to view the minutes of your life as currency in the bank. 

Every week you are given more than enough to invest into creating a better life. Don’t waste it! Time Well Spent Time is the one commodity you can’t get back once it is wasted, nor can you exchange it. It’s the only thing you own, that you DON’T. Imagine if time was a currency How much did you invest today? Will you see a return or did you make a few bad investments? Did you give it to those that needed it most, or were you greedy with it? Everyday time flies, and you need you spend it wisely to make the most of that ticket price!

If you listen to the lyrics you can see drake was praising Jay-z. He said "I used to wanna be on roc-a-fella, then I turned into jay" he says how he wished he would be on roc-a fella. But like Jay-z, he has a successful own record label (OVO sound) and ended up being just like jay. I swear people reaching. He didn't even diss Obama or anyone he mentioned..only meek

True...they love causing drama and want these rappers to beef, they light the flame and then sit and watch for their entertainment.

Know your place

Let’s get into Drake’s latest false start: No one should compare themselves to JAY Z, least not Drake. Was it even a shot? I’m not sure. Because a rapper with reference tracks shouldn’t go anywhere near that comparison to save themselves embarrassment - and I’m hoping Drake knows that and was instead paying homage to the legend Hov. If it was a shot? I’d say I appreciate Drake is having his moment currently, and his music is catchy as fuck and serves a purpose in the game, but it is fascinating how the public have given him so much hype his ego has managed to inflate to declaring himself to be Jayhovah. 

Nah boy. #FACTS? Drake is worth $75 million, Hov is worth $560 million. Drake has four platinum albums, Hov has SIXTEEN. Drake has sold 5 million albums worldwide, Hov has sold 60 million. Drake is signed to Wayne, who is signed to Birdman; Hov built Roc-A-Fella Records from nothing into one of the most successful rap labels ever. OVO Sound is owned by Warner Music Group, but meanwhile Hov owns the entire Roc Nation company, including the music label, management group, and a sports management division. Drake signs his life away to a streaming service, Hov BUYS one. Drake is an ambassador for a NBA team, while Hov has actually owned a NBA team AND still owns the arena the Nets play in. AND if we’re simply talking skills, which is the most important part of any rapper, Hov out-rhymes Drake ten-fold. 

Hov studied his elders and perfected the rap craft, but Drake is out here just swinging at his OGs. Rappers these days seem to get a little cash, quickly forget who the GOAT is, and start speaking out they neck. EVERYBODY is influenced by JAY Z, so these rappers need to stop coming at him with this petty shit. He perfected what it means to be a successful rapper, while still showing a consistent talent as he changed to fit the rap environment. Y’all need to leave him alone with his business ventures, cause he’s on some mogul shit now trying to create a legacy for his future generations. There is room for everyone to make music and spread love, these fake beefs are worthless and not worth our time yo. Step to Hov when you can actually match him Drake, otherwise stay in your lane.
