Best. Week. EVER. Cline was incredible! Words just can't describe the nerd-high I had after his talk. Seriously awesome.
And today, I'm finally going home to Rolla!
S, I want a peanut butter chocolate Ready Player One birthday cake. You can do that right? :P
-H
T-minus 3 days. The Cline countdown has begun. I've never met an author who I've read before. It would be SO cool to talk to him. I mean, check out his website.
He's got a category called, "GEEKING OUT"!!
Nerd King, we salute you...
...and we also really want to meet you.
-H
Things are good :)
I'm so glad that I decided to team up with Meredith and Ted. It turns out that we actually have a lot in common outside of the game! We're talking about going hiking or skiing over winter break so I should probably find a job on campus.
Meredith, Ted, and I have been trying to rack up points to boost our spots on the scoreboard by going back through the libguide and tweets to find extra puzzles. Send us the obscure puzzles you guys have encountered!
-H
I finally did it, well I guess I should say that we finally did it. And yes, by it I mean that we made it through the next puzzle and got the crystal key! It was tricky because I showed up (alone) and they wouldn't let me play. I could see other people playing and at first couldn't figure out why they wouldn't let me in.
So, I texted Meredith and Ted to see if they had tried yet, which they hadn't. When they got there, we were allowed in to play. Then we played Guitar Hero and I totally killed it. Not going to lie, I totally had a nerd moment when I was playing. It felt like I was Wade in that temple, discovering the guitar.

To S:
*wink wink nudge nudge*
- H
H,
You tease! What did you find?!
-S
I wish there was a way to get an extra life, like when Wade plays pacman in that old diner. Maybe there is...
-H
It's banned books week. I only know this because I passed by some guy (who I later learned is a professor) reading a banned book out loud today and happened to hear the line "Be true to your Dick."
It was surprising and funny and refreshing. You would never hear that kind of language from a teacher in high school #ilovecollege. I looked it up (yes, I realize that was a risk) and found out that the quote is actually from a book called, Lolita, and that the "Dick" he is referring to is actually a character, but whatever.
Who knew there are so many banned books?! Just let the people read.
-H
I was working on a puzzle before American Lit today and these two people, Meredith and Ted, knew what I was doing. Apparently they've been working together and they asked if I wanted to join them.
I'm a little bit nervous about sharing my work with them because I've made it this far on my own, but it would be nice to talk to someone else about the puzzles.
I don't know how far I am going to go in the game with them, but I did agree to go to Nerd Night with them tomorrow.
-H
Is anyone else having as much trouble as I am with this puzzle?! I've tried everything I can think of!
Has anyone else heard about these cards that help you get more points? I haven't actually seen one but I've heard people talking about them. I could really use one to boost myself on the scoreboard!
Either way, if you know how they work, please say so in the comments!
-H
H,
Guess what we're doing in Mr. Warner's class? Watching To Kill A Mockingbird! #ilovehighschool.
But seriously, when you have to get up at 5:30 and go dance for an hour BEFORE school even starts, then you can complain.
-S
It's really hitting me now that I'm not in high school anymore. I have my first test in Natural Disasters and Macro this week, and then on top of that I have my first paper due for Expos and a project for my CAT Community. Not to mention the exponentially growing reading list. Don't get me wrong, I like that it's challenging...but all at the same time, really?
Could this be accurate?:
Wish me luck!
-H
I'm excited to go see the Margaret Wertheim lecture in the Beach tomorrow with some people from my American Story class. I think that the plan is to grab some food at the Union after class ends at 10:45 then head over to the museum. It's a good thing that my Expos class was cancelled for conferences so that I can go to it.
I'll try to get an autograph, S, but you should probably just drive up :)
-H
This weekend I went to see a movie in the Union with Zach...paying $1 for a movie is one of the best parts of college so far.
Spent the better part of Sunday working on the clue for the Jade Key but finally solved it and am excited for the Jade Gate this week!
-H
Thanks for the TEDtalk! I will definitely go to see her and maybe even get you an autograph :)
So I went to that event last week and got to play joust just like in the book! Then more points showed up on the scoreboard! Ah! They gave us a puzzle which led to the copper gate, which I got through no problem...just had to do some research.
I just got back from the library where there was another puzzle to solve for the jade key! #winning!
This next clue though is really confusing... more on that later.
-H
H,
I’m sorry you couldn’t come home over the weekend! We missed you! But seriously, perk up! You’re in college! This is supposed to be an exciting time!
This might help keep your mind occupied. Check out this TEDtalk; I think you'll like it!
The coolest thing about this TEDtalk is not that she uses a crocheting technique to recreate the creatures of the coral reefs, but that she is going to be at K-STATE (aka within 5 miles of where you’re sitting now!) in less than 10 days!! YOU HAVE TO GO!!
Seriously.
-S
P.S: watch this feel-good target commercial, and remember how excited you were when you got in to K-State!!
