A Little Guide On: Bands For Your Peace Of Mind

I feel like sometimes we just need very calm and soothing music, to either help us get through things, or to listen to when we are just tired and don’t want any harsh sounds or to clear our heads from everything. This is why I decided to recommend you a couple of artists that I think are awesome when it comes to making this type of music. 

Sir Sly

Although they have been a recent discovery, Sir Sly has definitely made it into my favourite bands list. Their music is beautiful and so tranquil and wonderful…like I just love them. I wouldn’t usually describe music that way, but you’ll understand what I mean when you listen to them. Their live sessions are also perfection, and they are basically almost everything I have been listening to lately. Their most recent production has been their Gold EP, which I totally recommend to any indie pop fanatic. They are different but their simplicity makes them excellent. As for songs, I highly recommend you listen to Easy Now, Gold and Ghost (both the studio and live versions for any of them are great).

The Neighbourhood

I have been listening to these people for a while now, yet there hasn’t been a time in which I have gotten bored of them. They are not only constantly producing new sounds, but their is something about their style that seems to make me addicted. Although some of their songs make seem to be dark, their indie rock-ish vibes are uniquely incredible. After listening to more of their music, you’ll realize they aren’t just Sweater Weather, but that they actually make their music with a passion that is reflected in smooth melodies and sometimes weird but great lyrics. Also, do not even get me started on their vocalist because Jesse’s voice is life- literally. Their I Love You album, featuring their hit Sweater Weather, is iconic, and from that one I highly recommend Alleyways and Afraid. Also, they have amazing EPs such as The Love Collection, from which No Grey and West Coast are my faves, but the other song in the EP, $TING, is also great.

Coldplay

Ever since I started building my own music taste, probably when I was 11, I have made some serious progression and it has changed unimaginably over the years. Nonetheless, Coldplay is that one band that has remained. Always. From Fix You to Viva La Vida to Magic, this band has always created outstanding songs which I still treasure in my iTunes library. To me Coldplay is just a style of its own, like there’s no comparison. Their music is so so so brilliant and their songs are able to make you happy or inspired or to have a deep moment of reflection. This band is everything people, I am telling you although I know a lot of you like them already, because for those who don’t, I suggest you go back and listen to some of their music. Fill yourself with some of their fantastic tunes. The albums that I love the most from them are X & Y, A Rush Of Blood To The Head, Mylo Xyloto and their most recent: Ghost Stories. My all time favourite songs would have to be Viva La Vida, Clocks, Speed of Sound, Paradise, Magic, Fix You, Charlie Brown, etc.

Pacific Air

I will admit that I have only been listening to them for a little while, but oh my god, they are one of the best things ever. I want you to go ahead and listen to their entire Stop Talking album and you will seriously fall in love. Pacific Air is one of the most wonderful fresh sounds right now. Their music isn’t only soothing and “chill” but it is also the type you will keep on replay. I feel like I hadn’t heard something like it in a while, but I realized their style is a fusion of some of the best vibes ever. Furthermore, I love these two brothers because they bring me memories of youth and fun and freedom (for some reason, also to lemonade and summer, but OK). If you are bored of always the same music, perhaps giving their music a listen will make you feel refreshed and lively. I promise you’ll smile. The first song I ever head from them was Float, which I absolutely adore, but I also love Move, Roses, Sunshine…basically the entire Stop Talking and also songs like Intermission (from their EP Long Live KO KO as they were previously called KO KO).

Two of my friends recently had their birthdays, so I obviously had to get amazing them gifts. I thought of so many gift ideas for them that it was hard to decide what to get, but in the end I managed pretty well. So here are my ideas for getting a friend an awesome birthday gift! 1. Tops - Like me, my friends love clothes, so what could be bad about getting them more? And there are so many varieties of tops to pick from. You could get them a tee from a tv show, movie, or band they love. Or you could get a top that they’ve been wanting for a while. 2. Accessories - Accessories are a great gift since they won’t break your bank and they’re an important part of every outfit. You could get them necklaces, bracelets, earrings, sunnies, or even a bag. 3. Books - If your friends are into reading, then I’m sure they’ve mentioned books that they want to buy. So why not buy one for them? (The best part is that you can read the book when they’re done.) 4. Plants - No matter what type of plant, whether it’s a cactus, bamboo, a succulent, or some flowers, plants will always liven up a room. They make great gifts because they’re easy to get (many hardware stores have a whole plant section), look great in a room, and are easy to care for. 5. Vinyls - This really only applies to those who have record players, but vinyls can be great gifts. You can find record stores almost anywhere, and they’re also sold at Urban Outfitters and Barnes & Noble. They aren’t overly expensive, and music is a great gift. 6. Mix tapes - Like I said before, music is a great gift. A mix tape is something your friend can listen to whenever and be reminded of you. Pick songs that you both love, songs that remind you of good times together, and even put on songs that they might not know. 7. Something handmade - They say that handmade gifts are worth more than store bought ones, and this can often be the case. You could make them almost anything and they’d be sure to love it. 8. A day out - Not all gifts have to be physical things. Just spending a fun day with your friend on their birthday is great. You could go to dinner, head to the mall, see a movie, relax by the pool or at the beach, or go to an amusement park. There are tons of great ways to spend the day with a friend. TV Shows, Anyone?

I’ve been continuously watching these TV shows during my summer vacation and I thought it would be great to share them with you guys! Here is a list of shows that I personally like. Of course, these are my favorites and recommendations so don’t be disappointed if your favs aren’t in here. x

1. Orange is the New Black (2013 - )

Summary: The story of Piper Chapman, a woman in her thirties who is sentenced to fifteen months in prison after being convicted of a decade-old crime of transporting money for her drug-dealing girlfriend. (IMDB)

Personal opinion: This show is one of my favorites; I’d even say it’s a must-watch. However, you must note that a lot of the scenes in this movie are inappropriate — so if you’re uncomfortable with watching sex-related stuff or if you have nosy parents who barge in your room every ten seconds, you probably shouldn’t watch it. What I love about this show is that there are so many parts with twisted humor, but some other parts that are so deep and meaningful that it will touch your heart. You might not like it at first, but keep watching it and you’ll be intrigued by Chapman’s life. 

2. Scandal (2012 - )

Summary: A White House Communications Director leaves to start her own crisis management firm only to discover she has not left the past behind. (IMDB)

Personal opinion: I don’t watch political shows. I really don’t. But let me tell you something: once you get sucked into Scandal, there’s no going back. God, I honestly love this show so so much and it’d be one of my top favorites. Highly recommended. (Plus, the President in this show is Tris’ dad in Divergent.)

3. Pretty Little Liars (2010 - )

Summary: Four friends band together against an anonymous foe who threatens to reveal their darkest secrets, while unraveling the mystery of the murder of their best friend. (IMDB)

Personal opinion: This show. It gives me so much feels and I cry over literally every ship in here. You might think to yourself, “Pretty Little Liars? Is this the more tamed version of Gossip Girls or some shit?” But noOOO this show is great and I highly recommend you to watch it. It can get a bit creepy sometimes though, so watch it with a friend or with your lights on if you’re easily scared. - Kisses, A. 

4. Baby Daddy (2012 - )

Summary: A 20-something bachelor bartender becomes an unlikely parent when an ex-girlfriend leaves a baby girl on his doorstep. (IMDB)

Personal opinion: This show is full of humorous and lovable characters. If you’re a comedy/sitcom kind of gal or guy, this is a great choice for you. It’s really funny and stress-relieving, and I often watch it after finals and other exams.

5. 2 Broke Girls (2011 - )

Summary: Two young women waitressing at a greasy spoon diner strike up an unlikely friendship in the hopes of launching a successful business - if only they can raise the cash. (IMDB)

Personal opinion: I LOVE THIS SHOW SO MUCH. I first got to know Kat Dennings from when I went to watch Thor 2 with my friend. She recommended this show to me and I fell completely in love with it. It’s so hilarious omg and I just love it. Yes, there are unlimited amount of sexual innuendos and racist jokes, but if you don’t mind that stuff - just watch it. You gotta watch it.

6. Awkward. (2011 - )

Summary: An unpopular 15 year old gains unexpected immediate, yet unwanted, popularity at her high school when the student body mistakes an accident she has for a suicide attempt. (IMDB)

Personal opinion: I had a love-hate relationship with this show. I liked it and all, but the things that happen in this show are so unrealistic that it’s funny. Some parts got me kind of pissed off, but I recommend watching it. It’s relatable (somewhat) and pretty funny.

Okay, that was my list of must-watch TV shows! I know what some of you are going to say: “But where’s Friends and all the other really good stuff?” There are some reasons why I didn’t add them here: 1) I didn’t watch it so I can’t give my personal opinion on it or 2) I didn’t like it. It’s more likely to be 1, though. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy watching the shows I recommended and have a great summer vacation! Stay rad B)

This ones a tear-jerker

Bears Den are a lovely little folk band that i’ve been following since late last year and their new video for Elysium is nothing short than beautiful and heartbreaking.

The video directed by Marcus Haney was originally set to follow a group of his brothers college friends going about their lives and having a good time, smoking, skating, drinking, doing temporary tattoos and building fires. During the four days of filming, the tragic seattle campus shooting took place taking the life of their 19-year old friend Paul Lee and injuring two others. Although heartbroken, the group decided that even in light of the event, Marcus should continue filming and the fact that these are real people and real reactions makes the video so genuine and honest and all the more tear-jerking

This can be a very stressful time of year for a lot of high school students, with finals rapidly approaching so I thought I would share some ways to stay positive and stress free in these last couple weeks of school.

1. Get moving! Make sure you are getting at least half an hour of exercise four times a week. This will do wonders for relieving tension, stress, and putting you in a good mood.

2. Get some fresh air: I’m not saying to go get a tan, but a little sun or a nice stroll can get you in the right state of mind and clear your head.

3. Set a study schedule: To study for your final exams, make a specific schedule in advance that allots just enough time to work on each subject. This will minimize cramming last minute, and eliminate the stress due to finding time to study.

4. Make a healthy snack: Reach for some fruit and some protein the next time you’re hungry, fueling your body with the right nutrients will make you feel amazing and ready to take on whatever comes your way!

5. Strive for those zzz’s: Put away all distractions about half an hour so you have nothing in your way of getting that well deserved sleep. Trust me, you will be so glad you didn’t stay up on your phone when you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to go!

6. End the year with a bang! Do something at the end of this school year that you will remember. Throw a huge party, spend a fun night with your best friends, or work really hard and ace all your exams.

7. Make a fun playlist: Make a playlist of songs that you can count on to make you feel happy. Things That Make Me Very Happy: Books!

I think that the idea of a world, a universe,  that is physically disguised as a pack of papers printed with inky letters and beautifully yet simply encased with a hard or thin material is just mind blowing. There has been something about this book presentation that I adore, compared to e-books, or audible books; because- yes, they are quite practical and perhaps easier to use, etc. but they don’t carry that essence that has always made reading extra special for me. Feeling the book, turning the pages, smelling the sometimes odd perfume they have…those things make me really happy. I admit it’s very weird, but that just makes me happy. Another thing that I like about books, good books, is the content itself, of course. I’ve heard a quote that says that people read books to escape reality, or something like that. The point is, that for me at least, that is the reason to why I read so much, I guess. It makes me happy to know that every book carries a story within it, a story that never dies, because literature is always alive. It’s eternal. If you think about it for a little while, that thought is bewildering, isn’t it? Every story is different, every story has a different theme and characters and emotions and that is why I like to call each one a “world” because they comprise so much. I know that not all books are story books; there are informational books, atlases, encyclopedias, but they are a world themselves. Even those books that do not have any words are little universes, the power of expression via visual content is stunning and compelling. 

My favourite books are generally fictional, fashion or girl related (I will explain the girl related later on) and even some non-fictional books. I particularly enjoy series that revolve around concepts which are unreal or nonexistent in some way or another. I think this types of books really give me a distraction as they get me to imagine, and allow me to walk on unknown lands. Some examples would be The Hunger Games trilogy, the Mortal Instruments series, Divergent, etc. Also, books that talk about stories which are lived in a realistic world but have never actually happened have attracted me a lot, like Looking For Alaska, which is one of my ultimate favourites and I actually liked more than The Fault In Ours Stars, which by the way is another master piece.  Additionally, my obsession over fashion books has actually escalated very quickly and the last one I have read has been It by Alexa Chung (which was really fun to read although I finished it in an 1.30hr which is a record considering the fact that I am a slow reader). Also, what I mean by girl related is that it covers topics which are mainly relevant for that type of audience and are all like fun and artsy and stuff, like Rookie: Yearbook One, which is one of the most visually beautiful, quirky, perky and fun books I have ever set my eyes on. 

Lastly, there are the non-fiction books, which I have not read many of, but I have liked a few a lot. My dad and I share an interest on history and political based books, which I know sounds kind of boring but for some reason we both like. What usually happens is that he will read one and if it is good, he will pass it on to me. Since our native language is Spanish, and considering that he doesn’t know much English, the books will obviously be in Spanish, but they are good even though it is hard for me to read other books in the language. One of them includes a book called “Basta de historias” by an Argentinean writer called Andres Oppennheimer, the title directly translates to “Enough With The Stories”, and it brilliantly explains how to improve education, technology, science, etc. in South America, highlighting some problems of the countries in the region and using evidence to sustain each point. There is this other one that I started about the history of the world from the beginning of its creation but haven’t finished it because 1. I just started 2. It is SUPER long 3. My dad said he was going to read it again because when he finished it, he forgot the beginning (that is how long it is) and he read it again but after a year or so has forgotten a lot of it. So, books and everything that comes with them I like, and therefore make me very, very happy.

Ok so i think we can collectively agree that skateboarding is one of the raddest modes of transport there is. However i have found that as a young girl wanting to take up the sport, parents and friends would always try to steer me in the direction of bicycles and horses as preferred mode of transport. Whilst asking my fellow male classmates for advice got remarks like “girls don’t skate” or a eye roll that just said “well of course you wouldn’t know anything you’re a girl”

So i told myself fuck em and marched down (ok i was 9 i got my mum to drive me) to my local skate-shop with all the christmas and birthday money i’d put aside and bought my first board. 

I remember the first thing the girl in the shop asked (yes another smash to the stereotype that girls aren’t interested in skating just skateboarders) is what i planned to use my board for. So you’ll want to think this through too.

Cruising - If you don’t plan on using your board for tricks and just for riding along long flat spaces then i’d recommend getting a longboard or cruiser. Longboards are usually much longer and have a narrower nose than a regular board and often a little more expensive to buy and less customisable but they’re great for going out on longer adventures. Cruisers however are shorter and sometimes wider (unless its a pennyboard but pennyboards suck) than a classic board and usually have bigger, softer wheels for a smoother but slower ride.

Tricks/Cruising - If you’re considering learning a couple tricks along the way, you’re best off getting a classic board. These range anywhere between 7.5” and 8” wide the taller/bigger your feet are depends on the width of the deck that’s best for you, but in the long run doesn’t really matter as much. These can be built up from scratch or bought as a complete, and have more range of components and designs to choose from.

Okay so once you’ve decided what you’re going to be using your board for, now you need to buy one or build one. If you’re going classic, here are the basic components you’ll need to know whether you’re building or buying a complete because you can always customise later

The best wheel size to get for a standard board to start off is going to be 54mm because you can wear them down if they’re too big and you’ll avoid getting “wheel-bite” (this is when the wheels are too big for the truck and rub against the underside of the deck) and remember, soft wheels mean grip whilst harder wheels slide.

Holding your board may not seem important but trust me, its just etiquette in the skating community. The best way to hold your board is under your arm with the grip tape facing outwards. Having it facing in is just going to graze your legs or mess up your shirt. Another way is to grab it by the nose, this way you can be ready to hop on your board whenever. (note: don’t hold your board by the trucks aka Mall Grab/Gromit its just considered lame and again, you’re gonna mess up your pants)

on the subject of pants clothing sort of comes up a lot when my friends have asked me “what the hell am i supposed to wear” and my response is “whatever the hell you want….as long as its sensible” just make sure you’ve got a comfortable decent pair of kicks, Vans are made for skating and with trainers become so on trend, its not hard to find a pair of Janoskis or Adidas Eldriges on your local highstreet.

but with all this aside, for me, the scariest part of starting skating as a girl is the idea of rocking up to the park and not “fitting in” or being totally shunned simply because everyone there was a dude. A lot of people will tell you to just go because it doesn’t matter. My advice is that if the idea of just turning up is so horribly daunting, practice a couple tricks and build up your confidence somewhere quieter with friends, that way you dont feel like a total newbie when you do go down to pull a couple tricks. But truth be told, the skating community is one of the raddest and most supportive things i’ve been part of. Don’t be afraid to try new tricks and remember if you’re not falling, you aint trying hard enough*.

If you are (like me) Clueless obsessed and adore Cher Horowitz’s style, you’re in luck this summer! Backpacks, crop tops and skirts are all really popular this summer. In the picture above I tried to make the Clueless look a bit new, so I just added three trends: high necks, pastels and white to the look. So here’s a small guide on how to sneak some clueless inspired clothes into your summer wardrobe!

Crop tops

Crops tops are super nice and perfect for spring and summer. If you feel a bit unconfutable showing off your stomach, you can do like Cher, and pair it with a high waisted pleaded skirt and a fuzzy cropped cardigan.

Tartan skirts

Both Cher and Dione is seen wearing tartan (“matchy matchy”) paired with high knee socks. A good way to sneak tartan into your wardrobe is a tartan skirt! Tartan skirts are super easy to wear and an easy way to add some print to an outfit. You can style a tartan skirt with a crop top and maybe with a nice leather jacket tied around your waist (the knee socks are up to you).

Backpacks

In the movie, Cher is seen wearing small pretty backpacks to school. By adding a backpack to a feminine outfit it makes the overall look more sporty and young (and they look super cute). Luckily backpacks are very on trend this spring so it’s quite easy to find pretty and stylish backpacks in many high street stores at the moment.  

The little white dress

You can never go wrong with a little white dress. The dress has spaghetti straps which has a 90’s vibe to it and white is really in this season.  You can wear it like Cher by putting a sheer white blouse over it or to make the dress casual you could wear it with a pair of silver sandals, a denim jacket and black leather backpack.

New York Fashion Week for Rookies

Yes. It’s here. It is definitely no secret that this is one of the most important events for not only designers in America, but also editors, bloggers, socialites and fashionistas around the globe, that have travelled and probably are now traveling to the city that never sleeps, in the search of what comes next in the fashion industry. It is also true that international designers are getting ready for their own shows, and that Paris, Milan, London and Berlin Fashion Weeks are absolutely exciting- without mentioning other little ones like the Dubai, Madrid, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, etc. Yet, the fashion capital of New York is somewhere we must sure keep an eye on for the upcoming spring/summer trends and styles that will be seen in the rapidly approaching 2015.

Below are some key aspects and points that you must know if you are really going to get into the subject! Let’s face it- this industry is hard to understand and well, it is never too late to learn the basics of such an occasion! If you really have no clue of what NY Fashion Week consists of- I’ve got you covered!

•New York Fashion Week, originally baptized as Press Week by its creator and fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert, was born in 1943 (the picture above is from the time), right at the peak of the war, when European fashion was a bit of a delicate subject and was not receiving the most attention. Lambert’s idea was to use this as the appropriate time to let American designers shine and show the world that they didn’t need European designers to copy their work from. Thankfully, this was a huge success and from then on, this event has been carried out yearly. (That’s right, I did my research on the origins of FW. God bless Google.)

• NYFW happens twice a year so that designers can showcase their collections for the different seasons. You will notice how they are split into Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. The Spring/Summer fashion week happens during early September and the Fall/Winter during February, and they always showcase the looks for the New Year.

•This year, NYFW is basically taking place as you read this! It started today, September 4th and will end on September 12th!

•There are usually around 15 shows taking place each day, with of course different locations! You can view the exact days scheduled for each designer in the official page mbfashionweek.com, and you will also be able to get a bit more info there!

•Basically a lot of designers will showcase their collections in the tents that are set up in urban, spacious areas where they can set up the runway, the seating, etc. However, the Lincoln Center is where a lot of the shows are carried out.  Nonetheless, some other designers, particularly from the great fashion maisons or stablished designers, will set their shows up at places like structures built for events, galleries or other areas that are a bit more sophisticated and can allow the fashion house or designer to really create an atmosphere and environment of their choice.

•Sad news is, you can’t just walk in to any Fashion Week show. Seats are limited and a designer’s priority is to get important figures that can somewhat promote or sell their clothing into the show. This includes celebrities that may wear them, bloggers, magazine editors and main figures, retail store buyers, and the like- all invited.

•On the bright side, you can actually volunteer to help during Fashion Week if you live in the city where the event is held and can get around where they might need you! Although it is no front row seat, you may be able to enjoy and experience something a little bit different! The details can also be found on the MBNYFW site listed previously.

•Although the shows are never too long, 25 mins. max, there is also a lot of preparation before every single look goes down the runway, and the shows usually start later than expected. But, since most of us may not make it this time, you can always watch the shows on the designer’s web page or tune in live at fashionweekonline.com (and I think some TV channels in specific countries).

•Tip: the greatest way to enjoy Fashion Week in the comfort of your home is to make a mini marathon with your ‘fashion friends’. Invite them over during the weekend to catch up on the shows you missed during school and plug your laptop into your TV so you can watch and re-watch the videos on a bigger screen! Also maybe some treats and shakes or smoothies to go with that sounds good huh? Or you can just watch them by yourself, like I do, and ramble about them with your pets/stuffed toys. (Because you know you can.)

•But the show doesn’t end here! Prepare yourself for the ultimate fashion month since right after New York Fashion Week is over, let your screen virtually fly over to London for its Fashion Week, then Milan and end your journey de la mode in Paris! So yep, September won’t be so painful and once it’s all over, October will kick in!

I am sure that after this little beginner’s class, you are as excited as I am! Because although I am myself a huge rookie that has learned bit by bit, this sure is going to be spectacular! Watch out for Alexander Wang, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, DKNY, Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren and more of your fave designers for the next few days!

Quick & Healthy Breakfasts

Okay, so back to school is a really stressful time for everyone, and my least favorite thing is getting up early. I’m tired and lazy in the mornings, and a lot of the time I just skip over breakfast. I've constantly been lectured about how important breakfast is, and I've always dismissed it. But this year I’ve decided that I’m going to try and eat a fairly healthy breakfast every morning (or at least most mornings), and these are some of my favorite ideas.

Smoothies – I make smoothies all the time, and they’re such a great breakfast. Pour some water into the bottom of the blender to cover the blade, then add some ice. Toss in whatever fruits and veggies you want, start the blender, and you have a smoothie! They aren’t always the prettiest, but they taste amazing. My two favorites are Nutella with banana, and a blend of acai, pineapple, blueberry, and strawberry.

Yogurt – Yogurt is such an obvious choice for a quick breakfast. I really love strawberry yogurt with granola, so I make sure I have plenty of both at all times. Top it with berries and you’re good to go! I try to stay away from the overly artificial yogurts, too.

Fruit & Cheese or Cheese & Crackers – When I’m really short on time, I generally grab just whatever. I really love fruit and cheese when I have no time in the morning. Another great idea is cheese and crackers. A plain cracker with brie or goat cheese is fab (especially when topped with fig spread for sweetness.)

Peanut Butter Waffles – This might seem a little random, but it really is great. Take 2 toaster waffles (whole grain if you’d like) and spread on some peanut butter. You can put on jelly, bananas, Nutella, pretty much anything, and then put them together to make a sandwich. Or you can just eat them with syrup, which is yummy, too.

I Finally Bought AM, 10,000 years late. And I can say, I’m sorta mad at myself I didn’t buy it earlier. When it comes to music I’ve discovered I follow a phenomenon I call Reverse Hipsterism. I didn’t start liking Lana del Rey until a year after everyone else. I just started to listen to Marina and the Diamonds a year ago. I don’t tend to like the popular artists until months or even years after they’re ‘discovered’. So of course, I’ve been hearing the Arctic Monkeys’ name come up in conversation and artistic Tumblr posts for a long time before I actually considered listening to them. In fact, my first impression of the Arctic Monkeys was that it was just another indie band my friend Julia (aka The Indie Queen) insisted I listen to. This was before, of course, I listened to any of their music.

Cute Etsy Finds

Etsy is probably one of the most useful websites out there. If you don’t know what it is (have you been living under a rock?) it’s a website where people can buy and sell handmade and vintage items. It’s a great place to find birthday gifts, decorations and other adorable little trinkets. If you’re looking for something in particular, or if you’re just browsing, chances are you’ll find something on Etsy.

Last night I was dead bored, so of course I decided to do some online shopping. I wasn’t looking for anything in particular, and yet I managed to find lots of cute things for under $30. Between jewelry, candles, soaps, and other adorable decorations, I found 10 items that won’t break the bank and are totally worth buying.

Honeycomb Soap – I don’t know about anyone else, but I am a huge fan of cute soaps, and this one made me smile right away. These soaps are shaped like honeycombs and come in a pack of three for $8.25. They ship from Las Vegas, Nevada. Definitely check out the shop for other soaps, too.

Brass Leaf Cuff – Cuff bracelets are a cute and unique statement piece, and this one is a great way to bring a more natural touch to an outfit. It is a thin filigree bracelet in the shape of leaves for $28.00, and it ships from Portland, Oregon.

Chunky Framed Sunglasses – These sunglasses are adorable, there’s no other way to put it! They’re chunky and colorful, what else matters? They’re $20.67 and ship from London, England.

Book Themed Candles – I love candles and always have a few in my room, but these are amazing! They’re based on characters, places, and lines from famous books. There aren’t too many in the shop right now, but they do have the Weasley family, the Divergent factions, Hazel Grace, and Romeo and Juliet, each for $12.00.

Cat Mugs – If you drink tea, coffee, hot chocolate, or any other drink in a mug and you like cats, this is perfect for you. It comes in both black and white and is shaped like a kitty’s head! They cost $22.00 and ship from San Diego, California.

Glass Vial Necklaces – I’ve wanted one of these for such a long time, and I think this one is my favorite. It’s a little glass vial necklace filled with pretty bits of sea glass! This is a great statement piece. It costs $10.00 and ships from Clintondale, New York.

Paper Crane Temporary Tattoo – Temporary tattoos are so cute and fun! They’re an adorable quirky accessory, and this one is $5.00 and ships from Brooklyn, New York. Check out the shop for other tattoos, too!

Makeup Brush Roll – My makeup brushes are always in a pile on my bathroom counter, and I personally don’t enjoy keeping them there. This makeup brush roll is the perfect solution! It is $15.00 and the shop carries lots of cute colors and patterns.

Birch Bark Flower Pot – I love having plants in my room, but to be honest, the pots at Home Depot aren’t very cute. This birch bark pot, however, is, and only costs $9.95! It ships from Chicago, Illinois, and would look super cute holding your favorite succulent.

Yin-Yang Choker – I’m always on the lookout for chokers, and I’d say that this is one of the cutest. It’s a Yin-Yang charm on either a tattoo choker or a black cord choker starting at $5.50. This ships from White Stone, Virginia and is made by the lovely Soph.

Recently I traveled to Martha ’s Vineyard. A  few things I got to do while the island has zero service I made a mental list of while i had this time on vacation that seem to make the trip a little more special and memorable. that you should try as well

Wake up one day to watch the sunrise: while I always suggest this in my lists of things you can do there is something beautiful about seeing the sunrise even if you can see it everyday at home. Other places sunrises are either 100 times more beautiful or they make you realize just how beautiful yours is.

Videotape everything with a real camera. Document your vacation in as much as possible. I love making videos at the end of my vacations as well as the people I go with like to see them you can include many hilarious moments and do something creative with the things you document besides just having it on instagram,

Skinny dip. While this might sound scary what im about to suggest know that I've done it and it’s great. Go with your friends and swim out as far as you can especially if it’s during the day and take off your bathing suit hold it in your hands and float around out there while you’re there. Swim like mermaids enjoy the water and the less then certain idea of not getting caught. This year we did it multiple times at the beach that was full of people and there were no nip slips for the public eye to see.

Watch the stars or go on drives. This is fun to do at home but you don’t appreciate the scenery as much if you can see it everyday. Something about the idea of only having 7 or so days with a place makes you look at it and appreciate it like only seeing a friend once a year. And it’s a very beautiful feeling

Stay up late with your friends. Night life is awesome and its fun to look out your window and see the silence that the busy town you know become and eerie feeling. Talk with your friend about boys and your crushes catch up tell your deepest darkest secrets and your weirdest ideas and dreams. Odds are if you are on vacation with a friend your close enough to share these things and not be embarrassed if they don’t agree.

Do something scary ex. Run through a graveyard but not on the set paths that are there, walk through the woods, camp outside anything that is scary I ran through a grave yard two years in a row and we launch wildly and cry a little and usually end up hurdling the fence that’s on the other end. But it’s a fun tradition.

Even if you have service enjoy the time with your friends. The same instagram posts will be there when you’re going to sleep enjoy laughing and talking with your friends don’t let boyfriends spoil a vacation because if you’re the type of couple who texts 24/7 you’re missing out on important times that your friends will want to talk about for a life time.
