“Don’t you get it? They were always right about me.” He whispered.
“I don’t buy that. You can always prove em.wrong,” kai insisted. “That’s what I’m.gonna do. For Grace. Are you gonna listen to the idiots, or be who your wife thought you were?”
Cato stared at him, taking in a slow deep breath. “Who is Grace?” He asked. Cato’s entire demeanor had changed during their talk.
Suddenly Kai found himself dishing everything to Cato…about Grace, how he’d wanted to marry her, how shed died. Everything. No one else had every really listened to him about it before, but Cato just had that trustworthy look in his eye…like he was the older brother Kai had been lacking his whole life.
Caro listened closely and gestured for Kai to follow him. He held tight to the bottle of whiskey and led him to a room upstairs with a bed on the floor and sketches and paintings of a girl everywhere. He looked back at Kai. “Don’t let it become who you are…don’t make the same mistakes I did.”
Kai knelt, peering at one of the pictures. He was too stubborn to admit that it was good…really good. “This Annabelle? ” he asked.
Cato took a swig of whiskey and nodded. “Yeah…that’s her.” He whispered.
Kai nodded a few times. “Think it gets easier?” He muttered.
Cato sighed and shook his head. “I don’t think so…but I hope so.”
Kai looked up at him, the smirk completely gone from hia face. “So…are you gonna come home?”
Cato let out a heavy sigh. “Maybe not home…but I’ll stay close.”
Kai broke into a wolfish grin. "Fair enough." He transformed and padded over to Cato, nudging the bottle from his hand.
