Justin Timberlake: The 20/20 experience Part 2
So this is going to be a slightly biased review of Part 2 of the 20/20 experience by the talented Justin Timberlake, but anyway this is from the heart...
Part deux is absolutely everything you’d want from a follow up it has it’s own twist that keeps itself fresh and not stale.
If anyone can pull off a follow up, it’s Justin Timberlake, he proves he is not only seemless but versatile as he dips into country and even reggae at one point... Regardless of what other critics say, this is Justin Timberlake we’re talking about.
Mr Timberlake hasn’t really been in the running with all the ‘too-cool-for-school’ contemporaries. He has even made peace with his past, by reliving his boy-band days with the song ‘Not a bad thing’ which is a dead ringer for any of NSYNC’s mushy songs. Yet, this kind of cringe, makes him appear a most humble star; Uninterested in trying to prove himself, and conveying a sense of security that is refreshing, and more so than Drake has on his album (which to be fair is growing on me).
What we need to understand, is that Timberlake is ‘trying hard’ not to fuck up and many great artists can fuck up on a ‘come-back’. I recently read a review, and think that some of us are just slightly bitter about the fact JT has played the game well, and has made an effortless transition ‘back’ into the industry. In my opinion, this is just an illusion, as he works his ass off on stage, it’s clear for everyone to see he’s no slacker.
Anyway so the album itself is great, however there is only one track I really don’t understand, and that’s the song called ‘True Blood’... it’s just stupid and makes me think of that show I USED to think was quite good... Major cringe.
However, If this is what he can do when he’s not thinking long and hard about his music, imagine what he could do with ample time... I for one am praying he comes back with a new album (or two), without Timberland... FFS.
Essential tracks: Cabaret, Amnesia, Give me what I don’t know (I want)
