Qadmon Talle Jannat [قدموں تلے جنّت]
Dedicated to my mother for her birthday.
Jannat chalti jaye
Koi us ke bharose par hamla na kar paye
Lohey ka khoon peeti jaye
Sirf ek aurat hi toh hai jo iss duniya ki aazmaish bardaasht kar paye
Muskurahat ke phool khil jayein
Farishte us ka noor salami mein le aayein
Jang ke maidaan mein larti jaye
Sirf ek biwi hi toh hai jo har unkahi baat samajh jaye
Andheron mein rang bharti jaye
Chaand mein chaandni ki tarah chamakti jaye
Sooraj ki dhoop se saaya ban jaye
Sirf ek beti hi toh hai jo namumkin zimmeydari utha paye
Har din zulm sehti jaye
Har mauqa us ke haath se chhin jaye
Phir bhi woh himmat na haar paye
Sirf ek behan hi toh hai jo insaaf ki jarr se phal uga paye
Jahannam ki aag bujhaye
Momin ki nishaani ban jaye
Allah se hamesha wafadaari dikhaye
Sirf ek maa hi toh hai jiss ke pyaar se naslein mahfooz hojayein
Zaalim se mazloom ko azaad karwaye
Apni jaan se jaan ko roshni bhakshti jaye
Kainaat ka bunyaadi sutoon ban jaye
Sirf tu hi toh hai jis mein aesa kamaal mil paye
Tu Khuda ka sab se qeemti gohar hai
Teri jannat chalti jaye
Tu silsilon ke saare heer-nazaadon mein sabse qeemti heera hai
Teri jannat chaa jaye
Celestial
Blinding gravity,
Tragic light,
Consumed all energy—
Warmth enabling him to thrive.
Vibrant radiance,
Unhealed past,
Reflecting no permanence;
Such days can never last.
Distinct bodies,
Asymmetrical souls,
Losing extraterrestrial stories
That should have been foretold.
Silver presence,
Deep and lonesome,
Universal limerence
Ruined in golden absence.
Absorbing shadows,
Carrying grief,
Orbiting alone
To forever keep peace.
Sacrificial surrender,
Beggars and supplicants,
Poetic prayers
To remove divine punishment.
Cosmic empathy,
Symbolic suffering—
The moon perseveres endless calamity
For the sun to keep functioning.
Divine protection
Disguised as punishment,
Removed from the equation
For an alchemic fulfillment.
The night orders the waves to dance;
The day's melodies lead the air to sing.
The moon's humility entrances land;
The sun burns in alliance with fiery fury.
She conceals secrets of galaxies,
Gives hope to the ones who lost love.
He exposes solar insecurities,
Rejecting those seeking asylum above.
She gifts him rainbows,
He presents shooting stars.
The moon orbits in Earth's shadows
While the sun bursts in lightning scars.
Comets and asteroids
Join the stars to get a glimpse:
In separation there are rainbow skies,
In unity there is a destined eclipse.
Interstellar litanies
Beseech to restore
The Lord knew
What it was all for.
A love martyred
By an astral vacuum.
Ceasing the ethereal bond
Was the best for the two.
Testified the acceptance
Of prayers for the one—
To stay horizons away
The desolate moon
Parted from her luminous sun.

Paradox Of Prayer
She doesn't know how Allah did it—
Glistening in silver lining, lonesome,
To be the only source for all she loved.
But He separated them, worlds apart.
The sun possessed all that was golden;
The sky fell into a cycle of tug of war.
She doesn't know why Allah did it.
The opposing globes were never enemies;
The moon wanted nothing more than to be near the golden star.
But this distance was no better than stabbing your lover
Celestial bodies fading as they bleed,
Holding each other in grandiose from afar.
She doesn't know when Allah did it.
All she asked was for the sun's pain to be taken away,
Even if it meant the moon had to carry his weight.
So Allah gave her the sun's ache,
And left the moon between the stars in space.
His golden rays settled into bliss;
Allah gave her much more than she could take.
She doesn't know where Allah did it.
The moon would've chased the sun over any horizon—
Through twilights, through storms—
But the sun had begun to feel greater, wiser.
And all she could do was collect what light he left behind,
Until the Earth was suddenly transformed.
She doesn't know who Allah did it to.
In her prayers, she begged and pleaded in glowing grief
For his safety and his success to shine.
She never knew that very light would dismiss her.
Some prayers brought relief;
Others removed the supplicant,
Expelled from their own shrine.
She doesn't know what Allah did,
Only that the skies had one being rise and one being fall.
In the obscurity of night, the stars gave the moon solace
As she lit landscapes with the only light the sun had left her.
He thrived in her prayers as her tears poured in downfall;
The stars bore witness to the lost lover and his graces,
Sole keepers of what they were.
Allah has His way of doing things.
When the moon exchanges well-meaning fates for eternal cries,
He holds her tears in the pearls of stars until morning arrives.
The rain wakes the flowers and every corner of land
As the sun catches remnants of his lost lover's homeland.
When those tears embrace the globe of light,
A single streak of color conquers skies with all its might.
Allah knows what He is doing.
The moon wanted the sun to have a radiant fate,
So her tears birthed the rainbow.
No matter how many clouds are left in his wake,
The darkness she took so he could shine remains unknown.
Letting her go was perhaps the sun's most tragic mistake,
Because she symbolizes lovers torn apart and left alone.
Allah had once united the sun and moon.
She sacrificed rain from her crevices to let Earth bloom.
He has become so bright on stolen vibrance that he is blinding;
She surrendered all to her Lord, for the sun was no longer worth finding.
They say shooting stars are tears of regret sent by the sun,
And through every galaxy, the glowing globe repents for what he has done.
Gold may have been lost, but her silver illuminates the Earth's womb—
And the sky bears witness to the tragic death of the sun and moon.

Quod Tuum Est, Meum Est
[what is yours, is mine]
I’ve been sleeping a lot lately
to survive this—
to survive us.
But today I stirred holding your grief.
There is no bliss
in remembering what was.
You only had my days,
whereas she gave you years.
Time dealt an unfair hand.
You can't hate those who didn't stay,
those who choose to disappear,
you still loving her is a tragedy I now understand.
Even though I'm the one who left,
you continue to only miss her.
I never stood a chance.
I have been robbed by your intimate theft,
crying your name in whispers.
There is so much deception under the facade of romance.
I carry so much shame
for loving you so.
I'm sure to you I was a temporary passerby.
I wish to erase myself from your name,
to let you go,
and accept that the light dies out after sparks fly.
I shoulder the weight of you so heavy—
you dwell in the pit of my gut
like a clumsy stitch on a forever-bleeding wound.
You held no consideration for me,
and I'll always wonder why I wasn't enough.
Perhaps you're still stuck with her in that codependent courtroom.
You say you'd take her back
despite what she did to you,
love truly is a funny thing.
And I, too, have insecurities to unpack
—because I’d take you back, too.
One for a potential marriage, and one for a two-month fleeting fling.
And I can't make myself hate you,
no matter what I do.
I still pray both our pains remain only mine,
because I do love you.
Poetry never conceals the truth.
May prayers shield you from harm and make everything alright.
You know what they say:
prayers aren't answered right away.
Allah has a peculiar way of accepting our words.
I know He'll keep you out of harm's way,
even if He erases the one who begged in that prayer.
I must make peace with how His miracles work.
All I leave you with is this:
The aches that afflict you
Have begun to bloom flowers inside me.
I’d rather cough bloodied petals in our myth
Than turn into you, my shallow muse.
So let this love stay buried deep within, for eternity.

Tum Kya Kar Lo Ge [تم کیا کر لو گے]
jab us ki aankhon mein ishq ke jazbaat khilein ge tum kya kar lo ge
jab ek ajnabi us ko chand dinon mein duniya dikha de ga tum kya kar lo ge
jab us ki aankhon se darya ki tarah aansu bahein ge tum kya kar lo ge
jab toote hue sheeshe ki tarah woh apna dil sambhaal na paaye gi tum kya kar lo ge
jab koi mamooli shakhs uss ko gham ke alfaaz mein dafan kar de ga tum kya kar lo ge
jab woh fana ke azaab mein tum se adhoori ho jaaye gi tum kya kar lo ge
when the feelings of love blossom in her eyes what will you do?
when a stranger shows her the entire world in a few moments what will you do?
when tears will flow like a river from her eyes what will you do?
when she wont be able to hold her heart together like shards of broken glass what will you do?
when she is buried in the words of grief written by a stranger what will you do?
when the destruction of absolute love leaves her incomplete what will you do?
when someone's son will torment your daughter's life just like you tormented someone's daughter's life what will you do?

Peak, Plateau, Pass
I dream of foreign lands
Medical stamps
And eyes that reflect my pain back to me
I dream of falling stars
Permanent scars
And the boy who promised he wouldn't leave
I dream of shower hearts
Ink tearing papers apart
And words I can't forget
I dream of lonely roads
Cars coming too close
And grieving a man I never met
I dream the aftermaths of rain
A driver with eyes so pained
And the same grief in different bodily forms
I dream for the hope of it all
Cancelled plans and missed calls
And an audience that will always watch him perform
Hoping for apologetic texts, demons begging to be put to rest, trying to survive a man i can't quite forget.
I wake longing for him
Eyes turning crimson
Now the apocalypse comes crashing down
I wake mourning within
He waits for her in chagrin
Now the hereafter has my heart bound
I wake postbellum with loss
Times dies in a pause
Now heartache knows me by name
I wake because all is fair
In love and war
Now my despair has no one to blame
I wake because its all too much
Embraces without touch
Now this is my actuality
I wake buried in my grave
He stands there saying her name
Now there's a true wolf in sheep's clothing
Panic-attacks and flashbacks, lyrics bringing back the past, always returning to someone never coming back.
I accept her battle's won
Fated for another; he can't be the one
I slumber knowing I dodged bullets of infinite lifetimes
I accept it's time to say goodbye
Depart as I turn off the light
I slumber realizing we were simply parallel lines
I accept it's time to part ways
As we travel galaxies away
I slumber believing my love will have its destination
I accept he was never meant for me
Awaits me is a better reality
I slumber holding my past selves in congregation
I accept this is it
An infinite woman to a man of limit
I slumber making peace with what's not meant to be
I accept it kills me inside
But out there is the true love of my life
I slumber returning to combat nightmares of grief
Because even if you are dead to me, your lies are the only truth worth remembering, you live forever in my memory.

Phenomenology
I heard you.
When you’d call me
and I’d ask if you could hear me,
you’d bicker that of course you could.
Making you laugh made me laugh—
You spoke with a voice I couldn't hear with anyone else.
I saw you.
When you’d guide me into the shower
demanding that I look nowhere
but at you and the hearts in steam that you drew,
you sat the highest throne in my eyes, your crown delicate with jewels of futuristic visions.
You showed me colors I couldn't see with anyone else.
I held you.
When I accepted the way you’d make me feel,
telling me there was hope
in trust, loyalty, and commitment.
Your embrace was felt even from a distance—
You touched me with an intimacy I couldn't feel with anyone else.
I breathed you.
When I realized I could smell her on you,
that ghosts remained you couldn't put to rest,
my existence could never exorcize the haunting that possessed you.
The stench of her demons lingered in the wind—
You were a dying scent of betrayal I couldn't exhale with anyone else.
I devoured you.
When your soul savored my body and your words relished my mind,
the salt from my tears dried the oceans of faith on my tongue
my throat evicted bile against choked sobs,
your lips were flavored with poison when you sealed mine with a kiss.
You intoxicated me with a venom I couldn't taste with anyone else.

For Old Times' Sake
You'll have a daughter someday. She'll be your heart, your soul—you'll be so wrapped around her finger, you'll start to believe her skin is your skin. She'll exist in every crevice, every corner. She'll be your world, and you'll find existence meaningless without her.
Fatherhood will be the only thing that will bring you more joy than being a husband.
That daughter will remind you of someone someday. She'll exist as a stark replication of her—the girl before the wife. The one you let go before you met the one. The last woman standing before marriage whisks you away to a life without any trace of her.
And it'll chill you.
You won't know why. You won't know how. But you will know this: any semblance of that woman through your daughter will knock the wind right out of your lungs. Your veins will run dry, and time will stop just like it did the day you realized she was never coming back.
Because you left her.
It'll baffle you: you'll swear you witnessed your wife give birth to this child. You'll be ready to proclaim that you saw your little princess tear out of her mother's body. Crying and wailing murder to make her place in the world. You'll take an oath to bear testament that she is yours—equal parts you and your wife.
Yet, the day will freeze when your daughter laughs like her, snickering and covering her mouth before she begins hollering in pure amusement. You'll notice your daughter begin to express a certain infatuation with anything that has glitter, or the rainbow, or a reference to horror movies. You'll find her. You'll find her within your child.
The clock will begin ticking again. This was the greatest psychological time machine you'd ever known.
Because your body may age with the present, but some part of you was always left there. Because you left a piece of you with her as a haunting possession. Because the woman really did come back.
Or perhaps she never really left. Either way, your memory kept her alive.
You'll watch her grow—your daughter, expanding that deep-rooted stubbornness within her. Your daughter will pen miracles into poems. You'll read the words. You'll remember. It'll all come back to you.
Her blood on paper will mirror blood you've read before. Because you caused the bleeding. You twisted the knife. Her blood kept you eternal in the soil of those pages.
It won't stop there. Your daughter will begin to enjoy coffees at night. She'll be smitten by psychology, beg you to adopt more than one cat. She'll be obsessed with sharks and dinosaurs. Her neurodivergence will spill beyond her room and take over your home.
But the walls of your heart won't crack. The furniture in your mind will lay in dust. In fact, each plate set on the table of your cognition will remain exactly as it was—because they've seen this film before. They wrote the script. They know the ending.
This was the first audience you rehearsed for. The first ones to applaud the facade of you, your performance.
Your daughter will make you proud. She'll excel at her education, she'll flourish in her career. She'll have a strong sense of justice and a highly empathetic temperament. And she'll use it to help her community. And her community will thrive because of it.
Your little princess will age into a woman who will curse with such intensity that it'll make sailors drown their ships in shame. She'll be rigid in certain matters, no matter how much she needs to compromise. She'll hate certain foods, rewatch the same TV shows, won't be so extroverted, deny your spontaneity with excuses of laziness, and will be perfectly content with a small, intimate group of friends.
And you'll wake one night, startled and jolted, sweat beading on your forehead. A stupor shaken beyond comprehension. Your wife will bring you water, but you won't have it in you to confess that no water in the world could quench the thirst of guilt that keeps your throat dry. She'll massage your shoulders, but it won't truly register. You never felt comfort after you untied your end of the enmeshment.
Because somewhere out there was her.
Her.
With her jokes and sarcasm and self-deprecating humor.
Her curiosity and collection of insignificant fragments of life.
Her ability to notice even the smallest details about you.
The purest soul you've ever known.
The humility with which she carried herself.
The chaos of her anxiety and overthinking and constant alertness.
Her days of masking pain, etched like artifacts on her bones, and nights of simply trying to survive.
Her quiet decision to never bring a child—no, a daughter—into this world, terrified she would be broken by a man just like you.
The magnitude of strength it took her to keep those unborn children in her imagination so that her little girl doesn't succumb to a boy like you, and her son doesn't grow into an angry man that hates the woman he loves.
Her and the grief you surrendered, abandoned to her responsibility, sacrificing the realest connection you've ever known.
Her, and your daughter just like her.
Her.
Because a girl like her exists. And that will mean somewhere out there, there will be a boy.
A boy like you.
A son.
Someone's son will come into your daughter's life. Someone's son will charm her and earn her trust.
Someone's son will keep her loyalty hostage. Someone's son will make your daughter fall madly in love with him.
Someone's son who was bound to curse her fate.
To translate her love into mourning.
And this will be the reality which no amount of water will help go down your throat. This will be a person who'll leave markings on your daughter's tombstone. He'll bring riches with the pearls of her tears. He'll collect her peaceful slumber. He'll scar your daughter so mercilessly, she'll never be the same again.
With his empty words and even emptier promises. With his captivating smile and a prowess to gain your daughter's obsession.
You won't be able to save your precious child when the oncoming train of him ties her to the tracks. You'll recognize the dance of avoidance, remember the lyrics of attachment.
You were once the choreographer. The songwriter.
But your body won't move, you won't be able to sing along.
Because you'll be left speechless, just like you left her. You'll stay stagnant, just like you stagnated her.
You might have been the expert of the skies and seas. But here on land you'll watch his planes of accountability take flight. You won't be able to swim to her sinking ships.
It's heavy to be on the other side, isn't it? The helplessness when flights of hope catch fire and crash. When the anchors of trust don't save but drown.
You may have killed someone in a different lifetime. But in this one, you'll witness another die again and again.
And you'll swear you aren't living a nightmare.
You'll cross your heart and really will hope to die.
Because if she haunts your living room, exists as your daughter, brings rebirth to her tragedy—then somewhere out there will be him.
The man for your daughter.
Somewhere out there.
There will be a son like you.

On Hoping And Knowing
because the man meant for you won't say, "let's take it one day at a time"
the man meant for you will be certain of loving you in every lifetime
another woman may raise children with the eyes of the man you cried rivers for
but your children will inherit the eyes of the man who promises you forevermore
a man who leaves you isn't one who loves you, especially when all he leaves is silence
a man who loves you leaves only when he passes—for death alone brings absolute silence
there is a world of difference between a man who leaves by choice and one who leaves by compulsion
and there is no similarity between a man returning to an option and one returning to his destination
the one destined for you won't be a ghost, leaving haunted houses in his wake
he will be an affirming presence, building safe mansions no spirits can quake
you question intentions and potential when dealing with masculinities so fragile
but doubt dissolves when masculinities cement love as steady, soft, and versatile
with the wrong man, you’ll love him, but forever wonder if he’s the right person
with the right man, you’ll love him, and finally realize you were always the right person
at your best, the wrong man will find ways to make you feel like the worst
but the right one will hold you as the best, even when you are at your worst
and you could want it with your entire being, but what isn't yours will slip away
yet you could be infinities apart, and what is meant for you will find its path and stay
the one you grieve may have been in love with you, but never truly loved you
the one written in your stars will be in love with you, and love you through limitless "I do's"
when it’s wrong, you’ll beg for crumbs just to feel him want you
when it’s right, galaxies align to prove he never wanted anyone but you
gone are the days of being loved as an idea—looked at, but never seen; listened to, but never heard
here are the nights of being loved as a reality—relished in truth, cherished in body, action, and word
no more enduring men who stay only to isolate, alienate, and leave you alone
for even from a distance, he will make sure you are never lonely, walking the roads that lead you home

X Times Nine
April 09
nine times one equals something new that's begun a mind vandalized, undone a kingdom come crevices burying what's now done tending this cognitive graveyard from which i can't run who will light up my rainbow when I've lost my sun
May 09
nine times two makes lovers love with something new foreign skies on which fantasies flew homelands where unspoken words sprouted in resentment and grew the planes of potential start to fade out of view where is the atonement of religious sacrilege where hellfire broke through
June 09
nine times three means lovers set each other free to numb an ache, to martyr one's humanity, to never feel where the other pulls the trigger from the guns of ransomed pleas and confronting the final enemy: the menacing wrath of accountability the faith i struggle to put in you is retaliated with the disloyalty and dishonesty you put in me
July 09
nine times four concludes with epiphanies of closed doors of not recognizing each other or our own reflections anymore simple death would have sufficed but you left me laying in the wreckage of emotional gore a betrayal no amount of comebacks can restore how can i believe a single word out of you when you broke the promises by which you swore
August 09
nine times five will bring blessings through distractions in life i will rebel against and liberate from the identity of a daughter, a sister, a mother, and a wife i will forget you for rainbow horizons in new skies i will forgive you for your fabrications and facades and falsehoods of being the nice guy when i met you, it would've been the end of me, but there is nothing quite like hope in the priceless paradise of saying goodbye

Someone Old, Someone New
the nurse brings the baby in the mother anticipates, her heart growing frantic when the girl is revealed as such, the firstborn of a son, the silence is so loud the father's being the most deafening one, cementing the celebration as tragic
he is recovering from years worth of heartbreak
until she poses as a distraction on his virtual lifeline
he makes up some flirtatious comment to win her over
the crime of being an anchor for the avoidant, the anxious will eternally serve time
he shuts himself in the bathroom after he comes home from work as his daughter sits crying for his embrace by the door he screams for the mother to come get the aggravating thing but the toddler just wants her father, nothing more
he watches her with warmth on the other side of the screen
they've made his showering in vulnerability their unique, intimate routine
hearts of fingers and on glass etched for her through the steam
and she knew his ritual had started coursing through her bloodstream
through panic-stricken adolescence and finger-trembling adulthood a familial civil war was raging within closed walls because the daughter is not as sacrificial or forgiving as her mother and paternal gaslighting and manipulation are schemes she doesn't fall for
she knows, she feels it, all the signs she learned against her will are there
the foreshadowing cuts through doors and steams, their conversations are faltering
his absence looms over where his presence should have been
mourning the dead is the price she pays for standing on his cliff and falling
it'll hurt until it doesn't, there was no coronation for taking the king's crown when you entertain women that aren't your daughter or wife in silent screams and thundering tears she couldn't let the people down the grief of knowing her father left his family for dead was a demon she'd be possessed by for life
it hurts, it just does, when you're betrayed on enemy lines with hope martyred
she would never be on par with the queen he limerently yearns
her organs bloom flowers as she coughs out bloodied petals
the epiphany of knowing the man she loved left her for dead was an angel disguised as a lesson learned
the bathroom door never opens the steam clears but he isn't there her life fogs on the other side of the door devoid of hearts and glass that remains clear
someone old, someone new
a man across borders borrowed, a father that turned blue
silver sixpences stolen and held in cowering masculine shoes
no man to walk her down the aisle, no boy at the altar in view
a filiarch building dynasties on collapsed patriarchy, a bride sacrificed by her groom
