This is why we need local bookstores. If you have one, go buy a book. Who cares if you can get it cheaper online. They do more than sell books, that's just the only way they get money.

Tothoās kind of hilarious his crush starts going out with a moth he immediately goes to an active warzone
OH MYGOD THEREāS A THIRD DRAGON RIDER BOOK I HAVENT READ YET AAAAAAH EF BFF SHDSCVTSGSGJIDRGGDAGDATJHHHVCDAAQWDAFV
Rereading Dragon Rider again and yaāll better get ready I am not going to shut up about this book
Iāve now started the fine art of invisible detection! I like it so far but Iām only about ten pages deep. It feels very refreshing?? Like I really donāt like it when crime novelās mc is super angsty and stuff (trust me, you get sick of it.) so itās really refreshing to read a book where she seems just. Normal
I finished the Sanatorium. It was. Eh. I didnāt like it but I didnāt hate it either.
Ngl it was kinda funny in the sanatorium when Elin saw the sandbags and was like āOh my godshe was murdered!ā And like. You found her at the bottom of a pool wearing a gas mask, her arms tied behind her back, and with three fingers missing what did you think had happened
Also in regards to what books youāre going to hear me talking about on here, itāll probably be largely science fiction and crime novels, with a few other genres thrown in. Sci fi because itās my jam, and crime novels because I have to read a lot of them for A level because weāre doing crime novels in a level so you have to be familiar with the genre
I feel like in The Sanatorium, the Sam subplot is like. Isaac is a red herring. I donāt think he killed Sam?? I think something else is going on there. Itās too early right now to have something so obvious.
I feel like the only way I can properly express my feelings on the Murderbot diaries is in some essay-esque thing, so thatās probably going to be happening soon
Secunit/murderbot is autistic, hope this clears things up x
ALSO I read the first of the Murderbot diaries a few days ago and just. HOLY SHIT it was amazing I love it so much
Like donāt get me wrong. The emperorās spy was a very good book. But the romantic subplot was shit
Alright now that Iāve spoken about one of the better written romances Iāve read in a while, itās time for me to talk about one of the worst. Thatās RIGHT Iām still mad about whatever the fuck happened between Pantera and Hannah in Rome the Emperorās Spy
I know I already said this on my main blog but like. I love Lain and Holstenās relationship so much
Like. I liked a lot about it, from the dynamic they had going on of the tough and somewhat rebellious engineer with the self deprecating and somewhat cowardly classicist. I liked how it felt like Lain was yearning for him all those years? But I also liked how it progressed in the plot.
I liked how towards the end (spoilers for children of time btw) there was this almost nostalgic feel? I loved the interaction between Holsten and Lain when Holstenās ice coffin thing began to thaw out and Lain wanted to talk to him before he went back in. I loved the reveal that sheād been wearing his spacesuit as a shawl the entire time
I also loved like the last two sections and how Holsten and Lain interacted then. Like how Lain gave Holsten her baton in an oddly touching moment, and how Holsten carried Lain out so that she could die in the green and in the oxygen and just. Fuck.
I also loved how subtly protective of Holsten she was throughout the book, like when she realised Guyen was taking him to a dangerous part of the station and she was like āwhy donāt you take someone trainedā and when that failed she stayed with Holsten via the tech and stuff. And similarly, when the shuttle she and Holsten were on was crashing, she held him close because he couldnāt get his space-seatbelt on fast enough and Iām sorry I loved that bit
My favourite bit has to be after she rescues him from Guyen and he asks her why she rescued him and sheās just like āyouāre my friend is that not enough?ā
Iām really not usually this invested in romance in books, especially in science fiction (although star trekās zero chemistry romances may have coloured my opinions there) but damn Adrian Tchaikovsky can write compelling romances.
I know I already said this on my main blog but like. I love Lain and Holstenās relationship so much
Anyways. Some other books that I read this week were the murderbot diaries and children of time (which I already mentioned)
Both of those books were SO good. Like man. Just. Amazing. Showstopping. Heartstopping. I liked them so much itās hard for me to express my like for them.
Children of Time is especially noteworthy because itās the prequel (kind of) to one of my favourite books ever, children of ruin, (which is actually where the url of this blog came from)
Those are probably the two books that Iām gonna talk about the most? For now, at least. Iām also probably gonna be talking/liveblogging abt the sanatorium, which is the book Iām reading currently
