QUESTION TIME! What if Tidus have burn as a girl? Will you treat her different? Like an insane "Do-not-touch-my-little-girl-or-I-Shotgun-down" like?
ANSWER TIME! ♥ i can answer this YES and NO.but before i begin, to everyone who reads this, please bare in mind i’m responding from jecht’s point of view on the subjects at hand. these are his thoughts and opinions about raising children, not mine. thank you!
first, i wanna touch briefly on how tidus was raised as a boy: jecht’s old-fashioned when it comes to “raising” tidus. ever since he was a baby, tidus was a sensitive boy; to counter this, jecht went tough on him (sometimes too tough). it was his way of helping tidus become a man, and to prepare him for the world, because jecht knew life wasn’t gonna be easy on tidus (likely because it was never easy for jecht either, before all his fame). however, i don’t think he was ever really prepared to be a father, and with the rise of his popularity, and then his drinking problems, it was a very bad combination of all these things that made his relationship with tidus go very poorly. jecht also isn’t good at being emotionally vulnerable━with tidus, least of all. he went a long time trying to “toughen” tidus up, after all… so he doesn’t like to get “sappy”, as jecht would say, even though he might truly be feeling that way about tidus on the inside. because yes, despite everything, jecht does love tidus and jecht is proud of what he has accomplished by the end of final fantasy x.
so, what if tidus had been born a girl? well, then, yes. jecht would have treated a daughter differently, because to jecht, girls are more emotional beings. he wouldn’t tell a girl not to cry the same way he’d tell a boy not to. he might say “keep your chin up”, but never in the same manner he would handle a boy’s emotional outburst.
now, this is where i say NO to treating a girl differently. jecht is jecht, regardless if he has a son or if he has a daughter. he would have still struggled as a parent, because he wouldn’t have been prepared for a daughter either. he would still be absent a lot because of blitzball and his popularity, and he would still have started drinking. if a daughter actively sought out his approval, and his attention, he probably wouldn’t have responded well to it either. gender matters not in this regard.
but, you know, on a lighter note, it’s cute to imagine jecht finding little trinkets throughout spira, or even the various flowers since zanarkand is a big city lacking in greenery, and tells auron and braska about how much his little girl would have loved to see, or have those things. ♥
