the “sexy lamp test” but for disabled folks: if you can replace your disabled character with a beloved pet dog that needs an expensive surgery to survive then you have to throw out your manuscript

i think avoidance is such a little-recognized ocd compulsion. all the time i talk to people with ocd who are like "i was always having intrusive thoughts about using kitchen knives and harming myself or others but i'm okay now because i just stopped using knives ever 👍 so i'm good now"
and i'm like unfortunately i have bad news.
if you don't know why this doesn't work, the issue is that ocd never stops when you implement a compulsion. it evolves. today you've "solved" it by never using a knife again (and losing access to an important cooking tool, thus limiting an aspect of your life) but in a few months or a year it'll be that forks are dangerous too. and hey, isn't it risky to use the stove? avoidance will even begin to manifest in places you might not recognize.
the point is that OCD compulsions are never solutions, they're actually the problems. the intrusive thoughts SEEM like the problem and the compulsions FEEL like the solution. and that's how it getsya.

i love writing out numbers and then putting them in parentheses like "one (1)" even when i dont need to i think its funny
For those who don't know: Ikumi Nakamura is the woman who was senior artist on Bayonetta, and designed the titular character along with Hideki Kamiya. Their greatest moment of bonding was over their insistence that Bayonetta keep her glasses on at all times. Nakamura cannot go to horny jail. She is the warden.
Happy pride month to her and her exclusively
she made a comic about the experience on twitter
happy pride
An Update from back in October I'm surprised wasn't added to this post. lol
"this would be so good if it was good" might just be my favourite sentence to use when analysing any media
because it's not a meaningless thing to say
some things will always be mid at best, but sometimes things that suck could be so good, if only they were good
how it feels to be obsessed with your own ocs but you cant think of what to say about them
i don't really think saying ppl are ableist about tenna is a stretch because he is simultaneously so heavily coded with bpd (or just mental illness in general if you want to be vaguer) and characterized as being shockingly patient and non-violent/non-confrontational given his circumstances (outside of when he's in the middle of a nervous breakdown so bad he's having active flashbacks during it), that the only real way he can be so consistently mischaracterized as a possessive yandere dom who hurts people with his size is if you either didn't play the game or have very strange misconceptions about what a character like him "Would" act like. which certainly warrants reflection methinks
canon event
You can be talking to someone and she'll be like, "Oh I made a silly mistake. Women don't deserve voting rights teehee." And you'll be like, "What." And she'll be like, "Oh I'm sorry! That must sound so bad out of context. No it's this Tiktok meme where, if you're a girl and you do something dumb, you say 'Women don't deserve voting rights teehee.'"
And you'll be like, "That sounds bad." And she'll be like, "No no. It's totally not that bad. It's just a meme. Men say it too. Like if a man does something silly he'll be like, 'I am like those women who do not deserve to vote.'" And you'll be like, "Does that make it better?" And she'll be like, "Well there was one guy who tried to make 'Men shouldn't vote' a popular meme. But it never caught on and also he got yelled at a lot."
And then you drop it there because like, you're harshing the vibe.
God this makes me think of this screenshot:
"it minimizes you as a person" really wraps up my entire discomfort with the whole "oh but i'm just a girl" thing when used in most situations.
No Doubt spinning in their graves hearing people overuse “I’m just a girl”… and they’re not even dead yet!
i think giving tenna insane new commitment and trust issues post-ch3 is very very underrated and i badly need 2 play with it more
guy who lost everything in one night including nearly his own life, reckoning not only with the fact someone Wanted him dead but that everyone he ever knew - his employees, friends, best friend, whatever ramb is - abandoned him to it in the process, at the height of his terror and impending doom, everyone turning their backs while he literally fell to his knees and begged for them
(this isn't a "condemnation" on anyone's part ofc, altho i think the weather & mikes dropped the ball a little, but you can imagine how tenna took it regardless)
if we can say that tenna learned anything from ch 3, it's that: 1.) someone wants him dead, 2.) all of his relationships are on thin ice and he can't ever mess up again or risk yet more abandonment, 3.) someone wants him dead, 4.) he was correct to ever assume that people would abandon him if he ever lost control of his stage persona or became "too much", 5.) someone wants him dead, 6.) anything good he gets will be ripped from him spectacularly, and all he has going for him now is the tiny hope that anyone will bother finding a broken tv a new home, aaaaand 7.) someone wants him dead
basicallyyy i think he should be a little weird about it . smiles peacefully
I'm going down a rabbit hole looking through this Thai cattery that breeds for white back-stripes
