“You’ll have to FORGIVE ME if I find your story difficult to believe. I stopped believing in ANGELS a long time ago…”
@hisguidance | SC.
“Because of your own bad experiences. I UNDERSTAND-- and don’t worry, I don’t take it personally. You were lied to and manipulated. It takes time to recover from that sort of thing. I just hope you can see... it isn’t always like that.”
“Oof. Pity party for one.”
// Holy SHIT I’m rewatching The Devil’s Vinyl and the dying music producer straight up says “That one’s got a shadow guarding his soul” about Constantine.
// A couple more quick thoughts before I go to bed:
1. Manny genuinely cares about John, is protective over him, and is convinced that taking possession of John’s soul after he dies is in John’s best interest. The First of the Fallen is one of the few cosmic forces in the universe that doesn’t hate Constantine (yet), and he may even reward him for his service in the afterlife. What’s more, Manny knows enough about Heaven and Hell to recognize that John doesn’t really belong in either. Which brings us to--
2. Manny doesn’t believe in the antiquated constructs of good and evil as they’ve been established by God and His servants. Manny believes in free agency above all, which is why he’s trying to tear down the barrier between Hell and Earth. Let those who wish to serve God have their own little paradise-- but for the rest, including himself, let them be free.

i.......know your theory and dIDN'T EVEN REALIZE ANY OF THAT OH MY GOD
// I watched Angels and Ministers of Grace tonight, which is the most obvious one. I always thought it was odd that the doctor was going to heaven after killing all those people... but Manny only ever says, “Your place of rest awaits.” Not Heaven.
If you think about it, though: John sat by, utterly complacent, as the Devil led his oldest friend to the gates of Hell with a kiss. :)

RAY WHY WOULD YOU
// my revelation about Manny being the First of the Fallen has completely rocked my world
// John saw Manny come to collect the souls of several dying people over the course of the series. (The music producer in The Devil’s Vinyl, Gaz in A Feast of Friends, and the doctor in Angels and Ministers of Grace, just to name a few off the top of my head.)
I can’t believe it never occurred to John that none of those people should be going to Heaven.
I envy you. Truly. You know, it’s not all harps and halos for us-- we have rules to follow. But you?
---- You have CHOICES.

“You know, your father’s lucky to have you. Stacker’s one of the most SELF-DISCIPLINED men I’ve ever seen, but he’s always taking care of everyone else. He needs someone to watch out for him. The two of you-- you’re good for each other.”
With a pause, he reconsiders his words. Is he jumping in too quickly? Introductions are CUSTOMARY for humans-- easy to forget for him.
“Sorry, I should introduce myself. I’m Manny-- I’m a friend of John’s.”

The silence of the Millhouse is vast and unbroken when he slips in, quiet as a breeze. The air is thick with CONCENTRATION: the psychic is hard at work, scarring maps with her own enchanted blood. Her dedication to the cause is admirable; her neglect for her own self care, troubling. He spends several long minutes watching her-- waiting-- but at long last the exhaustion pulling at her muscles prompts him to speak up.
“You know, Liv, you should really take a BREAK right about now. Drink a glass of water, cook some ramen, turn on a movie. Need suggestions? I know a few good ones with Gregory Peck.”
Slightly more official startercall?
// Some icons for the dash, and I can officially do starters tomorrow.
“I used to have a whole horn section back in the day.” “I’m sure you did.”
Don’t rain on Manny’s parade, John.
// I know this blog is fresh out of the box brand new, but does anyone want a starter?
