⭕ Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital Warns of Health Crisis as its Fourth Generator Fails, Urges Immediate Intervention to Keep It Operational
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, the only government hospital in the central Gaza Strip, warned Sunday that a worsening electricity crisis is threatening its services after the fourth generator went out of service. "The generators operating in the hospital have become dilapidated due to continuous operation for more than three years," the hospital said in a statement.
The breakdown has halted operating rooms, while intensive care, dialysis, pediatric incubators, and labs face imminent shutdown. "This constitutes a direct threat to the lives of hundreds of patients and wounded," the hospital warned, as over 50% of its medical services have already stopped.
With rising summer temperatures, the need for power to run medical devices and cooling systems has grown urgent. "The danger remains and escalates hour after hour," the statement added, warning that any delay could lead to catastrophic results.
The hospital, which serves over half a million people, appealed to international and humanitarian relevant groups for immediate intervention to save the hospital's health system and secure a permanent electricity line and new generators. "Any delay in response may lead to catastrophic consequences threatening the lives of hundreds of patients," the statement concluded.
