Thanks in large part to Carl Barks's work, "Walt Disney's Comics & Stories" became one of the most successful comics on the stands, at one point reaching over 3 million in sales. However, he would be denied credit for years by Disney execs, even when Walt Disney wanted to give him credit at one point.
With the success of Scrooge McDuck, Carl Barks quickly expanded his supporting cast, such as Gyro Gearloose in "Walt Disney Comics And Stories" #140 (May. 1952), an inventor who works for McDuck and provides the gadgets for his adventures. However, his tall size made him awkward to draw for Barks over the other characters.
On December of 1947, Carl Barks created his most iconic character in Scrooge McDuck, Donald's rich but miserly uncle. First appearing in the story "Christmas on Bear Mountain" in "Four Color Comics" #178, he would soon become one of Disney's most popular characters.

Each story focuses on a different part of MJ's life, from her marriage to Peter Parker to her film career, making an appropriate celebration of her 60th birthday. Despite being a long time Disney cartoonist, Carl Barks only did one Mickey Mouse comic story with "The Riddler in the Red Hat" for "Four Color Comics" #79 in 1946. He was called the 'Good Duck Artist' for a reason.
While mainly the artist on Donald Duck, Carl Barks also worked on other comics for Western Publishing, such as Porky Pig, providing stories from 1943 to 1947.
Before Carl Barks went full time into cartooning, he tried his hand as a chicken farmer. He failed, but was about to use the experience to inspire one of his most popular Donald Duck stories, "Omelet" in 1952.
In 1943, Western Publishing had the idea to start a Donald Duck series in "Walt Disney Comics and Stories" and reached out to Carl Barks. He first produced "The Victory Garden" for issue #31 (April 1943). Barks was soon Donald Duck's regular cartoonist.
Carl Barks would transition from animation to comic books with the story "Donald Duck Finds the Pirate Gold!" in "Four Color Comics" #9 (Oct. 1942). It would be the start of a legendary career for the 'Good Duck Artist'.
Carl Barks started worked at Walt Disney Studios as an 'in betweener artist', or someone who animates the action shots between main poises, which included such Disney shorts like "Thru the Mirror" in 1936.
Another fun issue by Ian Flynn & Adam Bryce Thomas as the combined DC & Sonic heroes find themselves trapped by the villains in a pocket universe, only for Lex Luthor & Eggman to fall for their trap as they start fighting each other instead. Flynn continues to have fun mixing these universes together, especially with the heroes knowing the villains will start turning on each other while Thomas's cartoony art blends each character perfectly. Just a fun read from beginning to end for fans of both franchises.

Great biography of the comic book legend.
Gene Colan's first published work would be in Fiction House's "Wing Comics" #52 (Dec. 1944) with a feature on the P-51B Mustang. It would be the beginning of a illustrious career.
Another great issue by Scott Snyder & Werther Dell'edera as Batman and Harley are on the run from the Robins as she reveals her origin. Snyder crafts another fun issue the fills out Harley's back story, which has larger connections to Batman and Ark M. It is matched by Dell'edera's art, which has a gritty and creepy style that is perfect for the story, especially when that crazy cliffhanger comes in. Remains one of the best Batman books in years.
Mort Meskin's brilliant comic book career would be cut short by numerous mental breakdowns, which lead to his first wife divorcing him and losing custody of his children. He thankfully recovered, finding work at an ad agency and later inducted into the Will Eisner Hall of Fame in 2013.

Another great entry in the classic series.
Mort Meskin was a chief inspiration for the character Joseph Kavalier in Michael Chabon's "The Adventures of Kavalier & Clay", especially with how much the movie "Citizen Kane" influenced his art. The film inspired Meskin to experiment with shadows and angles, along with crafting the page as a whole piece of art over going panel to panel.
