Is it just us, or does everyone like anthropomorphic fruit? Yeah, it's probably just us. Anyway, here are some selections from the UC Davis Lug and Can Label Collection on JSTOR. There are more than 3,000 of these things from 1890 to 1970, and the collection is open to all!
no idea if this is true, but it feels true
I heard an interview, canât remember the psychologist, but he was explaining this idea and encouraging people to stop and take a deep breath and literally drink in small moments like youâre a dryass plant when something is ever satisfactory, positive, mildly successful, randomly joyful so your brain can code and integrate that experience because our natural lizard brain will quickly tape over it with mostly unnecessary negative survival shit. Sounds dumb and dorky but sometimes I remember this when Iâm feeling good about a moment because our cave brains are still catching up with modern life without sabertooths. I like that itâs not just a pollyanna gosh just be more positive thing but more of a legit brain wiring phenomenon can be gradually hacked through small behavioral changes.
Another super important one: Take the time to tell yourself, when something you did or bought or decided works out âThat was a good decision and Iâm glad I made it! Go me!âÂ
Seriously, it can have a huge impact. suddenly you go from remembering nothing but bad decisions to adding in a series of Excellent Choices You Feel Good About, and it makes things so much better.Â

âI urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, âIf this isnât nice, I donât know what is.â âKurt Vonnegut
Born #onthisday in 1868, the US sociologist + civil rights activist W. E. B. Du Bois. Celebrate with a look at the stunning hand-drawn âinfographicsâ he made with his students, depicting conditions of African-American life in 1900: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/w-e-b-du-bois-hand-drawn-infographics-of-african-american-life-1900 #otd #BlackHistoryMonth
it makes me feel something raw and aching when i see the monuments left behind by ancient cultures, the pillars and the carvings and the steps rising to the sky and the temples and the pictograms, like for thousands and thousands of years humans have stood in awe of the universe and poured their energy into building places to worship the gods they imagined made all of this, the way their wonder and their belief have lasted well beyond even their culture's lifetimes
for us to still see these places and feel the memory of their hands and their heartbeats carved into the stone, for us to know, thousands of years later, that they were there and they were amazed at what they saw
idk, in this sanitized world saturated with advertisements and cold steel and corporations squeezing the life out of the planet for another quick buck, it's gut-wrenching to look at the stones of gobekli tepi and feel shadows of the awe we once beheld the world with
When you are a classical musician and the public asks you to play Queen âŠ
@hieronymus-bush ⊠although Iâm not sure what youâll think of it đ
Holy hell. He has amazing technique AND he didnât just transcribe the piece to piano, he essentially composed classical music (and honestly some neo-classical, lol) based on the melody. Plus, he kind of looks like Freddie.
People in the 1800s would've gone apeshit over this in the concert halls
Reblogging to watch later...
Okay, Iâm good with this.
Potato Pete propaganda, NARA IDs 44266925 and 44266927.
Happy #National POTATO Day! By Miriam Kleiman, Public Affairs
"POTATO PETE" GOES TO WAR! Years before #MrPotatoHead, Potato Pete helped the Allies fight the Nazis! Not sure which gov't communicator associated potatoes with military strength, but this series of wartime posters - including Airborne spuds -- promoted potatoes as "fighting food" at a time of food scarcity.

Before âFreedom Friesâ -âPOTATRIOTSâ! Potatoes helped in World War I, as well! U.S. citizens were encouraged to eat more potatoes while wheat was being sent to the soldiers overseas.

I like that Number One at first tries to approach beaming a piece of a planetâs mantle onto the ship or trying to touch the warp core the same way one would approach a toddler trying to eat crayons.
FOR REAL her whole energy was âhoney no put that down itâs bad for your tummyâ
"Show me what you have!"
"A destabilized warp core!"
"NO!!!!!"
