The Sorceress, 1889, oil on canvas, 51x91 cm

It is likely that the tale of Circe from Homer’s Odyssey was the inspiration for The Sorceress. Originally in the Potter Palmer collection, Chicago, Il, the painting is now in a private collection. The Sorceress is considered by some as one of Church’s finest works in paint.
