HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!! time to ring in the wonderful new year and all it can bring to us. i hope to god this community heals from the absolute trash fire it has been the later half of 2018. we can band together and stick together, but it takes all of us, and i really hope we can do that all together. below the cut are some wonderful close friends, those i’ve written with and mutuals i haven’t interacted with before. i did my best to include every.single.person i follow, but if i missed you it’s an honest mistake and i’m so sorry! so check yourself out below and let’s get closer together in 2019 !!!

          “i’ve only seen the godfather once, so i guess you’re right.” she walked around the desk and sat down at the computer. “you handle that. i think i’ll see red if i try to read anything about them.” she booted up the computer and made sure to turn the volume off. all she needed was the windows 95 music to screech across the office. glancing once at santana, she smiled softly at her girlfriend -- the one person other than veronica that she trusted in this town. betty began to scan the files on the computer looking for hidden folders. “anything?” she half whispered as she continued to click.

“ you’d think that for someone who holds a position of power over an entire town, she’d have more security…”  she stands by the archway overlooking hermione lodge’s assistant’s office, making sure her sudden, poorly timed trip to the bathroom (courtesy of a bottle of laxatives and her dad’s unattended medical seal) wouldn’t end sooner than anticipated. “ i don’t know how long she’ll be in there. come on, betty – hurry up”.

      “yeah, but have you seen our town. plus, didn’t ronnie’s dad run a whole crime syndicate in new york? why worry about the mayor’s office here in riverdale.” betty looked over her shoulder as she worked. the lock pick slipped inside and she got down to business. “can you not rush?” she was about to huff when the lock clicked and she grinned instead. “i know what i’m doing, santana.” she dragged her girlfriend into the office and shut the door behind them. “if i was an evil mayor, where would i hide my files?”

      reaching up above the door, she felt for a key. in a town like riverdale, the obvious couldn’t be overlooked. coming up empty handed, betty sighed and looked over her shoulder. “it looks like we have to do this the old fashion way.” digging into her coat pocket, she produced a lock picking kit she ordered off amazon a few months back. “keep look out. neither of us can afford getting caught.”

       betty’s surprised not to hear anything coloring her mom’s words. she still feels the heat on her cheeks. she thought she was better at hiding things than this. maybe she does look like veronica hung the stars in the sky, but she thought she learned to hide it better. “i don’t know, mom.” she sighs and rubs at her cheeks. “since she walked into pop’s diner and i told her i was showing her around the school. why are you asking?”

Cheryl’s touch had been fleeting, the momentary pressure of her palm against Betty’s shoulder drawing close enough to the realm of tender to be considered CAUTIOUS. She made the valiant attempt to grace the girl with an easy smile as if to prove her emotional quandary completely irrelevant ———- that her biased, lived-in knowledge of what the Sisters were capable of and willing to surrender to hadn’t left her lying at rock bottom for an unforseeable, damning future. That through the thick of the pain, the solitude, the kinds of drawn out horrors that had almost left Cheryl herself at the bottom of Sweetwater River, only to revisit her in her drug induced nightmares, there was a light at the end of that tale’s sordid tunnel. That while Betty’s family, caught up in the machinations of a charismatic cult leader, had led to her downfall and her torment at the hands of the Godless many, Cheryl understood. Better than anyone else could.

“ I know you’re scared, ” she supplied, an emphatic emphasis elevated by the intensity of her warm stare, below the slight upward quirk of her eyebrows. “ But I’m aware of your plight, cousin… and taking into consideration Momsie’s unending expulsion from Thornhill’s estate, you’re MORE than welcome to take refuge in one of our guest rooms without charge or breaking a sweat. ”

      “i’m feeling less scared and more angry as the minutes tick by. i’m sure you get that too.” it was relief talking to cheryl about this. everyone else looked at her with a sort of pity in their eyes. they didn’t mean it, it was a natural reaction. she was sure she did the same to cheryl after her rescue from the sisters. but now it felt hot and suffocating that she was on the other side. she regretted it, but felt foolish in even trying to attempt to voice it back to her cousin. for now, they understood each other in a way that bonded them. “okay. alright, then.” she straightened up her posture until she was at her full height. 

      she felt okay now, in the moment. maybe more grief would flood to the surface later when she was alone. she’d indulge herself then. but not now when cheryl was so graciously sweeping her into her estate free of charge. “you can kick me out whenever you want, you know? i doubt i need to tell you that.” she cleared her throat. “i’ll have to wait until my mom’s gone to grab my stuff. i don’t want to run into her.”

Thea’s eyebrows went up with Betty’s quick comeback, taking the offered hand and giving it quick shake as she stood. “Betty,” She repeated, though she had a feeling she wasn’t going to forget the blonde easily. “Pleased as well. And pleasantly surprised. As for the locker- 128″ Thea looked at the small paper that had been handed to her by the principal along with her schedule. She fell in step as Betty led the way. “For the record, I didn’t say anything about being a bad girl. That was all you. I’m very respectable and love…” Thea paused, adopting a mock sage expression. “Whatever well mannered after school activity it is that goes for fun in a town this size.” Betty had thrown out the vibe that Thea could tease without fear of offending. It was unlikely that any reputation had proceeded her, but then again a quick google of the Queen name probably said enough without the stories her mom had paid to keep quiet. 

      “one twenty eight.” she only looked over her shoulder once as they made their way into the high school. she felt good about this interaction so far, in her own element. “pleasantly surprised? is that why you’re walking so slowly behind me?” betty grinned as she threw a wink at thea as she fell in line beisde her. who was she? “you didn’t have to say anything about being a bad girl. it radiates off you. or maybe that’s what you want everyone to think? i get it.” she rounded the corner until she found 128. “home sweet home. so you like chess club then?” she smirked as she leaned against another locker.

“i don’t doubt it for a second, betty cooper.” veronica kisses her again, from beneath her on the bed, hands keeping the other girl close to her despite her insistence that they stop. “it isn’t you and your good nature i’m worried about.” her hands rest on the back of betty’s neck, fingers wrapped in blonde hair, the other against betty’s still rapidly beating heart. “you might be the picture of homespun chivalry and blue eyed morals but i’m not a well bred wolf and i’m not strong and certainly not good natured.” 

She kisses betty one more time, long and hard and almost chaste against her lips before she pulls back, tucking her own lip in her teeth and wiping her thumb carefully along her own lip. “and i am positive you’re as honey sweet inside as you are outside and i’m not sure i’ll have an off switch with you if i start. I don’t have to go anywhere. I can stay here. But we should slow down. Get you in a bath – “ another kiss “get my inner succubus under control” – another “and we can always come back to it. I quite literally have all the time in the world.”

      the way veronica says her name makes betty bristle with pride. it doesn’t make her cower with what’s expected of her -- it’s new and warm and bright and she thinks she’d love to hear the vampire say it for the rest of her life. she grins against her lips and chuckles softly before licking into her mouth. gathering a hold of herself, she lifts her head enough to give them space to breathe even if veronica doesn’t need it. “i don’t want or need good natured. have you ever stopped to consider i might like a bad girl?” she flushes as she says it, sure that veronica can feel the way her heart ticks up as she says the words. but she stands by them and doubles down as she nuzzles against her jaw. 

      she hums happily as being called sweet at honey. it’s something she’s heard others in her pack say, but from veronica it sends a thrill up her spine. there’s no southern accent at the edges or a bless her heart tacked on at the end. “i kinda like making you out of control.” the truth as she allows herself to be kissed over and over again. even if veronica wants to stop, betty will allow her whatever she wants. she saved her after all. “you trying to get me naked, ms. lodge?” she raises an eyebrow as she lifts her head to look down at her. “but i do think i need a shower. i’m nothing pretty right now, i’m sure.” she puts a little more space between them as if it tampers anything down. “show me the way?” she reluctantly climbs out of bed and offers her hand to veronica.

Cheryl still felt it, some days. The phantom prickle of a needle point against the back of her hand, or the bend of her knee. They’d both SEEN things behind those cinderblock walls and barred windows. Heinous things. Drugs, pedalled through back doors. Illicit payments, perpetuating abuse under the eyes of some fraudulent God. The institutionally revered concept of correction and purging, overseen by Sister Woodhouse from the foot of a single iron wrought bed frame, fastening shackles around ankles, wearing her patients down to the bone until they broke under the pressure of their personal torment.

Another curse.

“ So say you’ll stay at Thistle House. ” The tenderness of that statement came without a sliver of pity. Cheryl reached for her, a certain strain of somberness in that solemn touch —- the palm of her hand settling weightless against Betty’s shoulder, as if to offer her comfort in the shadow of pain, of esoteric mystery, and every manner of torture that the Sisters deemed neccessary in their bid to cleanse their wards of their so called sins. A show of support for what lay ahead for them both, for their shared family, in spite of what their mothers had done, what HELLISH nightmare she’d subjected her daughter to. “ You didn’t deserve what happened to you, Betty Cooper. ” Neither did I.

     the offer softens betty immediately, even though she wants to argue. and if it was anyone else, she would. but this is cheryl and cheryl understands more than she should. the past is the past with them at least to betty. she doesn’t care about the vixens or polly and jason. those choices were made and they’ve moved on. because she’s seen cheryl defend her wit a bow and arrow. she’s seen her locked away and come back stronger than ever. her cousin knows trauma and yet is still here and offering her home. betty feels warm for the first time since the drugs tempered out of her system. “you want me there? won’t i be cramping your style?” she tacks on a smile to let her cousin know she’s kidding that -- that she’d rather be at thistle house than anywhere else in the world because she feels safe with cheryl and toni. 

      then her cheeks redden as if defying the rest of her demeanor because cheryl’s right: she didn’t deserve it, but neither did she. “neither did you. neither did polly. neither did anyone in there.” except ethel muggs, she thinks to herself, but doesn’t voice. “i’ll pull my weight. if you need me to... i don’t know... polish the floors?” betty has no idea how to live on an estate, but she doesn’t want it to be charity. “i don’t want you to regret it because we’re in this together.”
