i feel like we’re all going to have this very specific image of dess holiday or even other hidden characters pretty set in stone and toby might surprise us with a different look entirely… i wonder how people might take that.

i hope the people who have designed their own won’t feel discouraged to continue using them or feel they need to make changes, unless they want to. they are very lovely. but i do hope what will be revealed is also embraced with the same kindness and heart toby himself has given us. because both are essentially already given validation, as the intermissions between chapters are very clearly an encouragement to think up theories, share ideas, and create our own worlds alongside it.

Also, and this is just to satisfy my own curiosity, how did you come up with his design?? People usually go for a pretty standard blazer, but the tie... thing is such a cool choice!!!!!

if it’s any consolation i’m going through homestuck for the first time… it’s long and making me process a lot of things… 🫣

inspiration is okay! so long as it’s not a direct mirror i’m not too stressed… i think that’s kind of the point if we take toby’s words at their intended value. be inspired to think of where things can go, explore the endless possibilities, but put your own love into it.

plus both sai and i are still trying to figure out how we’d like to draw his tenna and my spamton really, so things may shift around anyway… 🤭

when i was designing him, i definitely had the “swatch and swatchling mimicry era” in mind, also playing a lot with the angel/bird themes scattered around the cyber world by noelle’s influence. and masks are a common theme in my designs for personal reasons…

for the blazer i just thought.. how can i make this a bit gaudy or showy as he tends to be but not over the top? a salesman’s gotta do their best to get their customer’s attention after all. fantasy is quite malleable also... designing clothes can be incredibly fun if you take away the modern standard. ☝️
