Soft Proofing

Although I do not have screenshots showing my attempt at soft proofing I have attached a link to the step by step guide that I followed when completing this. By doing this I got a better idea of how my images would look when printed and was able to edit them accordingly to avoid any unwanted colour changes etc after it was all done.

Displacement Maps

Before and after my attempt of a Displacement maps technique using Adobe Photoshop. I did this while following a step but step instruction tutorial video.

Puppet Warp

Above shows my attempt of some puppet warp with a step by step guide of how I done it with screenshots. In the first step I opened up the image and made a quick selection of the area that I wish to adjust. I then made a duplicate layer and then clicked on the edit then puppet warp tool. When in this tool I dropped pins and pulled and dragged then into the position to have the neck exactly how I want it to look. Once this was done I clicked enter and deselected the area then used the cloned stamp to remove where the neck was previously that was still visible.

Exhibition Evaluation

The end of the year exhibition was at the theatre Royal and personally I would say it was a massive success. Everyones work was placed in a black frame on a white wall which keeps it all connected even though everyones pieces are all different. The place was a great location to hold it at as the layout was perfect for all the guests to just walk around viewing everything in a big spiral/circle. I had 2 images on show at the opening night as shown in the images above.

Colour Grading

Colour Grading is a good technique to use when wanting to give an image something extra to give it the correct mood. Shown above is a before and after comparison of where i used this technique on an image after watching some tutorials. By doing this I have made the image more dramatic and cold which matches the lighting and facial expression/posing.

Exhibition Review

At the Tate Britain Museum in London, Don Mccullin exhibitted a lot of his documentary work. This exhibition consisted of many rooms showing a variety of his work that he has captured throughout the years. There was a lot of documentary black and white images that showed life in rural places during hard times. There was also some tables in some rooms that had some objects relating to the photos surrounding them on the walls which was interesting. Towards the end there was some newer pieces completely different from the rest that included some landscapes which i thought was very nice because it showed a good variety of work from 1 artist. All the pieces were presented in a black frame with a white boarder and on grey walls which was good because it captured the serious mood shown in the images.

Exhibition Review

At Street Level Photoworks, Arpita Shah exhibited her photo series ‘Nalini’. There was an good mix between portraits and non portraits while all being very clearly connected in a beautiful way as shown in the example above. There was a lot of light colours that gave a nice calming feeling to the room which made the series very interesting. There was also a table placed in one of the rooms with objects relating to the series on it which was very eye catching as it was so different. The prints were all hung on white walls which matched the colours in each image perfectly.

Black and White Conversion

Converting an image to black and white can be extremely easy. When making more than one image black and white it is helpful to create and use a pre-set as shown in the guide above. By using this you can just click one button on each image and most of the work is done for you leaving you to just slightly adjust for each one.

Making an Action on Photoshop

In class we were shown how to create an Action on Photoshop. This makes editting easier in the future when using techniques such as skin retouching. Although I forgot to screenshot as I completed this task I did write down a step my step guide as to how this is done along with another guide as to how to skin retouch. This is a especially useful in Fashion style images.

Final Photobook (back-up) - part 1

Above is my final photobook that I hand made out of all the film images that I captured for my graded unit series ‘a multidimensional world’. The main focus in the graded unit series is the different persepectives and how they show the world around us whereas in this photobook I show purely the main focus being the model in each image. This perspective shows what its like to be at a location with somebody, the background becomes meaningless and unfocused keeping you’re eyes attracted most to the person in frame. When organising them all together I chose to place them in order of when they were shot (oldest to newest) as this also allowed me to have a my models be girl boy girl in the final piece to keep a variety. I wanted to hand make it and keep it very simple as its a very small and almost ‘vintage’ feeling book with it all being black and white film photography. I also tied them all together to make a loop for them to feed through by using all the different threads that were used in my final graded unit images to make sure it was still connected to that project.
