do you guys ever think about the way ben leaned into han’s hand when he caressed his cheek on the death star? 

because i do and it makes me fucking scream

look at this:

this is the face of the boy that just wanted to be a pilot like his daddy. 

the boy that released butterflies from a cage and saved his dad and uncle and giggled the whole time. 

the boy that felt so much, so deeply, and didn’t know what to do with all of the love and fear and hope inside of him. 

the boy that didn’t want to be sent away from his parents at ten years old and was scared to death. 

the boy that had evil, angry voices in his head before he could even speak telling him that no one really loved him, that everyone was afraid of him, that he would never belong anywhere except in the dark. 

all he wanted was to love. to feel. to belong. to be cared for, and palpatine twisted all of that vulnerability and bent him into something scared and angry and sad. ben never had a chance to be the person that he wanted to be. 

but han knew who he was, always. through and through. 

ben killed him. looked him in the eyes and stuck a saber through his heart because the voices told him that was the only way to get the pain to stop. he killed him and before han’s heart even stopped beating, he forgave his son. he forgave him because even then, he knew there was still light begging to break through. 

he knew that his little boy was still in there, somewhere.

so when he tells him flat out: ‘kylo ren is dead. my son is alive’ on the death star and then tenderly caresses his cheek, ben leans into his touch and his breath shudders because he finally, finally feels so much of that love that he’s been trying to repress for years. he knows right then that han never stopped loving him. no one did. 

the tragedy of it all is that he only got hours, minutes maybe, to live with his heart unchained and full of the love he’d always wanted. 

and then he died.
