hollanov mafia au but set in a universe with a biblically accurate montreal mafia. ilya is bratva, liaising with the rizzuto crime family. his day job? construction site manager on some complex structure going up near the port. obviously, there are shady-as-hell deals happening here, it wouldn't be the montreal mafia otherwise (and montreal would have significantly fewer potholes).

the architect? shane hollander, who is a stickler and a pain in the ass and does ten times more site visits than strictly necessary. he goes over every detail with a fine-tooth comb. he asks questions ilya doesn't even know the answers to. he is the bane of ilya's existence. ilya maybe also wants to rail him. (ilya definitely wants to rail him).

rail him he does. it becomes a pattern, after shane's site visits, becomes something inevitable. they're being careful about it, because they work together, and also, ilya can't bear to drag shane into his shit. of course, shane finds out anyway.

and of-fucking-double-course, he's pissed at ilya for being indirectly responsible for the absolutely shit public infrastructure quality — and the potholes. and people could, die ilya, if the materials aren't up to code. and ilya really has bigger fish to fry in this moment — now that shane knows, now that he's tangled up in this world that ilya wishes he could get himself out of — but shane has to know he's not a monster. he doesn't give a shit about the potholes but all of the load-bearing parts of his projects are up to code. he just forges the documents right back.
