She kept hold of him, shaking from the left over adrenaline leaving her body. “Lavenders lucky me hurting her hurt you in that moment - I don’t think I’d have reason not to do awful things to her otherwise.” Cora mumbled, conflicted whether she wanted to hurt her more. She did. But that wasn’t who she was. It was bogus she got detention even if she expected to.
“Nastiest pumpkin juice, I ever had.” Oliver joked, letting out a weak laugh. He then pulled away from Cora to look at her. He simply couldn’t believe that all this happened. He couldn’t believe it was tricked so easily, and for that manner that it had never happened before now.
Cora let out a low laugh, wiping his face from tears with her clean hand. “You’re so trusting, Oliver. It’s your biggest strength and weakness.” She glanced behind them to see the Inn nearby. “C’mon... how about we go get some butterbeer and try to calm down. Good Merlin was I angry...” she shook her head, and let her gaze down to her dress; it was somehow unscathed from her being a thug. Cora took his hand gently and started leading them to the Inn. If anything, what just happened solidified her fear of losing him.

Oliver had never seen Cora this upset. He most certainly had never heard the girl yell so loudly. Under normal situations, this would have never had happened. However, these were not normal superstitions. Oliver was under an enchantment. The burly boy was under such a trance that the Slytherin’s girl’s words rang through him, without any reaction. Rather he didn’t lift his puppy dog eye’s off of Lavender Brown’s.
Right away Cora knew something was off. Her Oliver would never treat her with that amount of disrespect. “Oliver!!” She yelled at him once more; before watching him stare at Lavender. “What did you do to him!?” Cora shoved Lavender hard on both shoulders, pushing her back so that she could stand between her and Oliver. “I didn’t do anything.” Lavender protested, Seamus and the others were rather quiet throughout the whole ordeal. Fay shuffled uncomfortably with Romilda; the three girl glanced at each other. Instantly, the galleon dropped. Cora knew what they had done. “You spiked him with a love potion!!” Cora hissed in disbelief. Thats why they were huddled all together yesterday surely, they were planning how to do it. Cora didn’t even get her wand out, instead, she right-hooked Lavender in the face with a satisfying crunch when her fist connected with the girls nose.
She gave a sad laugh between sobs, reaching and taking his face in her hands- kissing all over his face despite both their tears. “Yes you are. You’re the biggest dumby- you are dumb, you’re are so dumb.” She let her hands slide to the back of his head and eventually wrapped her arms around his neck, “Don’t you know not to take things from strange girls— I can’t believe they did that-..” she was bewildered. “It’s not your fault though… you couldn’t have known.” Her voice was muffled since her face was pressed into his neck.
There was a sense of relief that Cora wasnt somehow upset with him. He could feel his face grow red from warm. He was actually blushing. He couldn’t remember the last time she had kissed him that much. He let out a weak smile. Thank God for professor Snape, was all he could think. He couldn’t bear the idea of forever being in Lavenders trance.

The moment Cora stepped a foot away. Oliver dropped next to Lavender, whispering things to her. "Let me see princess." Was the only thing loud enough for anyone to hear. He was going absolutely mother bird on the girl.
When Cora returned with Snape. Oliver smiled, " Ah, pumkin juice how you know?" He asked as he chugged it all at once. Within moments, he blinked. It was clear by his face that the enchantment was lifted as his eyes quickly darted up at Cora and he raised from the blood stained grass.
—————
Cora’s hand still had Lavenders nose blood on it- something she was surely going to suffer the consequences of in due course. Snape surveyed the scene. “You, you, you- come with me.” He pointed at the 3 girls involved. “Wood- go to the hospital wing. You-“ he pointed to Cora. “Detention.” And with that, he turned- the 3 girls following; Lavender held her nose. Seamus walked to the inn alone.
Once they left Cora ran to Oliver and hug him as tightly as she could, beginning to sob finally. “Are you okay-? What did she do to you??” Cora frantically started checking Oliver like a mother would to her child after losing them for an hour.

Oliver immediately let out a harsh yelp. It sounded like a hurt animal. Oliver’s eyes went wide, as the lean boy tried getting around Cora to Lavender. “What are you doing!” the boy screeched. He didn’t know he could talk like that, he had spoken in such agony. He had such a need to get to the other side of Cora, yet all he saw on the other side was Lavender Brown, now cover in blood.
The sound Oliver made broke her heart a little, never wanting to hear it again. She know she caused it technically, but it was all on the girls that spiked him. She needed to get Oliver to Snape to get him cured. “Oliver-” Cora turned on her heel, the pure feeling of livid fading but still there, she could feel her more docile side starting to come back. Cora blinked back angry and stressed tears, trying to take Olivers face in her hands gently. “We need to get you an antidote- you need to come with me.” She begged, trying to get him to look into her pale eyes.
Oliver’s eyes had already held puddles, daring to pour over into his face at any moment now. His dark hues flickered to Cora, and down at Lavender. “ I-I ” the boy choked his words. He was washed with loads of feeling. “ I can’t leave. She needs me. I love her.” He mumbled, still trying to find a way around her. His face met Brown’s, whom was on the grass clutching her nose now. Oliver could feel himself hyperventilating, now ; his face warm and wet from tears.
Taking a deep breath Cora backed away from Oliver, covering her mouth as she tried not to cry frustrated tears. Seeing Oliver like this was hell for her. “If any of you leave this area before I get back I’ll break all of your noses.” She seethed to the 3 girls, poor Seamus just hung back awkwardly. Cora then turned and began running back to Hogwarts. Shakily, she pulled out her wand from her bag- “Accio Firebolt!” She yelled, her broomstick flying to her moments later. She hopped on without stopping a second and flew full speed to Hogwarts. Once there, her broom went back to its correct home as she ran down to the dungeons, finding Snape and (after his constant interruptions) told him everything. Professor Snape gathered the correct antidote and soon enough they were back at the lake within a good 10 minutes.
“Give him the antidote Miss. Brown.” Snape ordered, handing over what seemed like a flask of pumpkin juice. “Uh... here Oliver... it’ll make me happy if you drink this.” She mumbled, handing over the flask to Oliver. Cora watched, still seething from the whole ordeal.

Oliver smiled, “ I can think of a few lads to go bug.” He smiled, thinking of his fellow gryffindor friends. They were bond to be missing him by this time of day.
“Your right.” He agreed, looking at his still full glass of lemonaid. He stood, leaning over the table to kiss Cora’s forhead. “Good night little one.” He grinned before walking away his hair bouncing.
A wide smile spread across her face as he kissed her forehead, warmth flooding to where his lips had been. She watched him leave, glad that the girls had left a good 20 minutes ago so she didn’t hear their shrieking. So annoying. Cora got up, slinging her legs over the bench and standing up- before making her way back to the common room to call it a night. Of course, Salem was happy to see her.
* * * The next day was even hotter than the one before- global warming truly was a bitch sometimes. She had told Oliver to meet her around 11am to go to Hogsmeade together; given she had skipped breakfast to sleep in longer, she was yet to see Oliver or any food- so she was hungry and ready to go. Cora wore a pale blue summer dress and some white converse; her dragonscale bag slung over her shoulder. Somewhat excitedly, Cora made her way up from the cool dungeons up to the warm ground floor- waiting at the statues by the Great Hall for Oliver. It was 10:50 so she was 10 minutes early. She sat next to the statue waiting for him. 10...20...30... The minutes passed by. Cora knew sometimes Oliver could run late but 30 minutes?? She figured she’d grab a piece of toast or something whilst she waited for him some more. After a little to eat, it was 12pm- he was an hour late. She was worried. Where would Oliver go...? Normally it was wherever she was. Or maybe he went to the quidditch field and had forgotten he was supposed to meet her- it was a nice day after all. Anxiously, she made her way down to the field- scanning the sky and field for him. Still nothing. She searched the changing rooms, the Great Hall again, near the lake, the owlrey, the prefects area and even near the room of requirement before heading to the Gryffindor common rooms. Where the hell was he? She was thinking of all sorts of ways he had gotten himself in trouble or possibly killed. She had never looked paler. It was 1pm- she was exhausted from trekking the castle and trying to find her Gryffindor boyfriend. “Okay okay keep calm, he’s such a ditz sometimes he probably got roped into going with the guys...” she muttered under her breath, heading back down to the Slytherin common room and rifling through her belongings to find something with his scent on. Soon enough she found all the little letters he had written to her stashed neatly in her nightstand. “Okay Salem- you’re going to help me track Oliver.” She placed the letters in front of him. If he wasn’t a magical cat this had no chance of working- but Salem was magical and thank goodness for that. She followed the fluffy brown cat through the castle, out the gates and towards the path of Hogsmeade. “Wait Salem, you’re confused- he can’t be in Hogsmeade I didn’t meet him--- hey! Salem!” She had tried to stop him from charging ahead but she was forced to sprint after him, eventually coming to The Three Broomsticks Inn and following it to a grass bank where quite clearly there were a group of Gryffindors- including her Oliver. Fear turned to relief, but relief turned to rage. Her face turned bright red, her expression livid. What the fuck was he playing at? She was so worried about him and here he was- where they were supposed to be. “OLIVER LEWIS WOOD!!!” Cora’s voice thundered as she approached the group. There was Oliver, Lavender, Seamus Finnigan, Fay Dunbar and Romilda Vane; all hanging out near the river. “Where the fuck have you been!? It’s be 3 hours!! I’ve been worried sick!!!” She demanded, her normally shy demeanor blindsighted by the current anger and hurt she was feeling. She didn’t care if they stared at her for once.

Oliver could help but let out a laugh at her “magic balls” comment. Some of the things that Cora came up with just surprised him. Wasnt he suppose to be the one who was brave? He wasnt so sure when she said such risky statements like that.
Oliver decided to pretend he didnt hear the girls at the Gryffindor table. He was good at tuning things like that out. He was more busy looking down at his drink. Lemonade. Hadn’t Cora known by known he strictly drank pumkin juice whilst at Hogwarts.
Cora recognised his expression when he looked at his drink. It was the same expression she gave when she looked down to find she had finished her serving of cake. “Before you say anything- I can’t see any pumpkin juice anywhere since its so warm outside-” She began, settling back down after the trauma of Lavender still breathing. “Also- I don’t want to get up and look because that’s scary.” She poked his cheek again.
A while passed before Cora finally sighed with satisfaction from the feast they had devoured. “Did you want to go find your friends... it’s getting late in the day and I don’t want to keep their favourite lion from them?” She offered, assessing the carnage she had reigned upon the dessert selection. Pudding was the most important meal of the day. “Anyway, you’ll see me tomorrow when we head out to Hogsmeade.” She reminded him, somewhat sleepy from the amount of food she consumed.

“You’re telling me.” Wood said with his brown eyes wide. He had been dealing with crazy girl since he started at Hogwarts. He swore witches were so much scarcer then the muggle girls he met over the years back. Oliver to a bite of his sandwich, thinking to himself. “ I really dont think you need more sweet.” He chuckled, the girl more obsessed with sugar then anyone he had met before.
“Like, boys can be assholes, but girls can be straight up terrifying. I’m glad I’m not a lesbian.” She decided, crunching on her crisps again. “Listen here Keeper of the Magic Balls-” she poked his cheek playfully. “Do you know how bitter I am? I need the sugar to compensate the sweetness I lack.” Cora reminded him, before almost jumping out of her seat in surprise when Lavender Brown gave a shriek of excitement. Cora turned to see what the commotion was about, only to see the girls surrounding Lavender hushing her but still giggling among themselves. “If she doesn’t end up in Azkaban when she grows up I’ll be fucking shocked and appalled.” Cora rolled her eyes, before taking a sip of her lemonade in a shaky hand- for someone who mentally threatened to fight people she was certainly skittish.

Oliver could see the girls behind Cora flicker their view from him to each other then back at him. Which really wasnt out the normal for him. Gryffindor girls looked at him all the time, almost as much as chosen boy, Potter. They were giggling though, as if he had something on his face. He blinked down, trying to keep his mind on Cora. What she was saying.
“Hm, I dont know…” he said slowly. “Want to go? We could get a butterbeer or something.” He flashed a grin before placing a sandwich on his plate and stealing a crisp from hers.
“Woah woah woah- that was 3 whole crisps buddy boy- that was basically a petty crime.” She gasped, “The Ministry will be informed.” She had tried to do a serious voice but Cora couldn’t help but laugh afterwards, taking a bite of her sandwich. “We could go, yeah-” she raised her hand to her mouth as she spoke before finishing chewing to talk without her mouth full. “I want to go to Honeyduke’s anyway, my sugar supply is lower than I’d like.” she nodded, finishing her sandwiches. Cora couldn’t help but look behind her briefly at the group of girls, something wasn’t right to her. They were huddled around a piece of parchment as one of them scribbled stuff down furiously- they were giggling rather loudly. She assumed they were probably planning to raid the Quidditch locker rooms or something, so turned her head back- even if she felt uneasy. “Girls are scary.” She muttered, adding more crisps to her plate to compensate for the ones she had stolen.

Sit at the table of snakes. Cora was really trying to kill him, wasn’t she. Oliver knew not all Slytherins were so-called ‘evil’ but, most of them weren’t his biggest fans. Especially the boys of the house. Luckily the long table looked rather barren this time of day.
“Sure thing, whatever you want little one.” He said, putting on a fake smile for her. It truly hurt his Gryffindor pride to sit at any other table but his own. However, he would honestly do anything for Cora.
“You know I wouldn’t ask normally, but those girls are vicious.” She added quickly, knowing how much he adored his house. “We can move to your table once they leave.” She squeezed his hand again, leading him to the end of her house table where there was nobody sat within at least a good 12 chairs of them. Once they sat she kissed his cheek quickly again, before sitting on the opposite side so she could face him; unfortunately she wasn’t facing the Gryffindor table so she couldn’t keep an eye on her targets. “Are you going to Hogsmeade this weekend?” She asked, taking his mind off the fact he had sat at the enemies table (though she couldn’t help grin at thinking of him wearing her tie). Cora began loading her plate with jam sandwiches and salted crisps; she then poured them both a glass of lemonade with ice in.

Lemonade did sound good he thought, though he drank pumkinjuice religiously even in the summer. Oliver stood, pulling out his wand the fell through the cushions of the downy sofa below them. He couldn’t count how many times he lost his bloody wand in this place.Oliver looked over to she Cora adjusting her shiny necklace. Purebloods, funny how even those who weren’t prejudice against dirty blood still took some pride in their status.
Wood walked toward the round entrance door, “Come on Fawley. I know you got little legs.” He chuckled warmly.
“Size doesn’t matter- it’s what you do with it.” She retorted, entwining her fingers in his once more. “And you know for a fact I could put away more dessert than you in one sitting.” A fact she was a little too proud of. She thought back to when she had returned to her place after being at the Wood’s home over christmas; how her parents basically only spoke to her out of necessity. Not questions like ‘how was your day’ or ‘did you enjoy your trip’, things such as ‘your chores are-’ and ‘don’t go in the kitchen tonight’. She had very much been disowned without the words being said. But that didn’t matter, with Oliver she was always at home; and she knew his family would welcome her whenever she needed them to. Cora was hit with a realization out of nowhere that without Oliver, she only had her cat and nobody else she could depend on. It was sort of tragic.
The hallways were surprisingly bare all things considered, which meant Cora didn’t have that anxious feeling she always got in crowds. She was easily knocked over which wasn’t surprising when you looked at her height. The Great Hall from Friday evening to Sunday evening had a mostly relaxed meal time schedule since it was the weekend and lessons were done. Students could come and go as they pleased to eat and therefore once they arrived a spread of mainly cold foods were presented (given the warm weather nobody would really want hot food). Spreads of sandwiches, salads, cold pastas, cold cuts etc were laid out on the tables of each house- with hovering jugs and goblets of iced beverages. Cora noticed the Gryffindor girls from before were huddled at the end of their table giggling and gossiping over something with each other. Immediately Fawley started to feel a little insecure despite her knowing how much Oliver adored her, she couldn’t help tighten her grip a little on his hand. “Can we sit at my table?” She asked, trying to seem as normal as possible when she spoke. She double-checked who was on her table, but luckily it was just Millicent Bullstrode and a few other girls from her class. Overall there were little students in the hall as of the moment.

“What about the Great Hall eh?” Oliver suggested, with the tilt of his head. He knew Cora wasn’t the biggest fan of going outside when the sun was blaring down. Plus he knew that on a day like this most students would be out on the grounds. Even he knew they draw attention, something he rather not deal with on his free day. “Don’t want you gettin’ a sunburn.” He said playfully, poking Cora’s nose.
She was silently grateful he knew her inside out. The picnic would’ve been appealing if there wasn’t hundreds of students outside already- she could’ve sat in the shade after all. Cora stuck out her tongue once he poked her nose. “The Great Hall works- I’m craving some lemonade.” She kissed his cheek sweetly, pulling her legs tiredly off him and she stood up- she adjusted her skirt for the hundredth time and fixed her school blouse. She would go get changed but she didn’t want to leave Oliver for a moment- even if it was to go get changed for 2 minutes. She also adjusted her necklace she always wore with the number 28 on it. “Besides, I really don’t want to look like a tomato.” She nodded at his sunburn comment. “Also the sooner I get out of here the sooner we can avoid getting detention.” Cora chuckled.

Oliver caught the large red shirt throwing it toward the dorm room stairs. He had amazing aim. “ It’s called clutter, Cora. Get it right, little one.” He said, his brown eyes rolling. Wood then pulled her legs closer to his body, letting his thumb rub against her knees. It had been awhile since they were perfectly alone like this. Not a soul in sight, it was a rare thing in this busy castle. He was sure it wouldn’t last long.
“Clutter- riiiight.” She rolled her eyes for what was probably the millionth time in her life as she copied him. She moved even closer, adjusting her skirt as she did to avoid it lifting up involuntary. Cora then nuzzled her cheek into his chest, so she was essentially cradled by him. She inhaled the comforting scent from him; allowing it to completely calm the thoughts that where running around her mind. She missed these moments, where they were comfortable in the silence; close to each other. It had been a while since they last had the luxury of being like it with everything going on around them. She missed sleeping next to him like she used to over the christmas break. But it was a Friday, the weather was nice and the lessons were over for the day- of course everyone was going to be outside. “We should take a picnic or something and sit by the river...” she mumbled at last, at some point she had closed her eyes- too comfortable where she was. She was supposed to sign up for Duel Club but she knew that it’d be full of morons, so decided against it. Allegedly there was a new Defense Against the Dark Arts Club being banded together, but given her lineage she would probably be discriminated against.
