Not very active on this platform but after speaking with a friend of mine, I felt like coming online as I doubt anyone will take it seriously coming from her, whos nothing more then a dinosaur nerd.

I am a paleontologist. I have dealt with just as much misinformation as everyone else, its annoying, I understand. But some of the actions I've witnessed here are just...so incredibly immature.

I thought the whole thing with tumblr was people usually respected other peoples right to enjoy things and if they were complaining, didn't tag the thing they were complaining about. Out of respect for those just trying to enjoy media.

But the behavior I am seeing from some specific people is making me ashamed to work in the same field as them. Going out of your way to tag things as ark survival evolved to be a dick is just plain rude.

Ark is not a very accurate game. Its far from accurate actually. You can say the same thing about many pieces of dinosaur media. Honestly, almost everything made for a mainstream audience gets at least one thing wrong. Excluding things such as documentaries of course.

Ark was what started me on paleontology. Seriously at least. Its what got me studying, its what got me into this field. I find the game enjoyable and while yes its spread misinformation...is that really such a big deal to you that you have to go out of your way to be rude to those just trying to enjoy a game?

Its obnoxious, I understand, I've spent many hours trying to correct stupid things people believe about dinosaurs. But this is not just an issue paleontology faces, this is an issue in any scientific field. You can never expect every single person to understand your field.

But this does not give you any right to be rude to people enjoying a game or people who have been misinformed. Snapping at people asking you questions and being rude to them because they don't know as much as you is something a child on a playground would do.

Theres almost a sense of "i'm better then you because I know [Insert dinosaur fact] here" going on. You are not better then anyone for knowing more.
