one of the problems ive had w the xmen over the years is that. even though the whole thing is largely an allegory for racism and racial injustice (magneto is a stand in for malcolm x and xavier is a stand in for mlkj), more than once the face of anti-mutant prejudice in the stories is. a black person. so u have an allegory for racial injustice that is based specifically in black racial justice and civil rights movements that portrays black ppl as the face of prejudice and positions white characters as the victims of said prejudice.

so u end up w stories where a black man is yelling made up slurs at white mutant kids. while failing to address the impact of race/racism with ur characters. do u not see the problem. and when race IS brought up mutant prejudice is usually made to be the more important issue between the two

other problem is that. as the stories went on mutant powers went from ‘i can fly’ ‘i can teleport’ to ‘everybody near me dies’ and. well. yeah that will probably scare some folks which? doesnt work for racial allegory bc a black person being near u will obvs not kill u so it just dont work
