oh mexico i will return someday. i got 5 of my favourite tacos for 30 peso for the airport but left them at the cafe i was using the wifi to get an uber to the airport.
beautiful people, burgeoning arts scene, sin gluten, cute dogs on european style sidewalks and ofc the best food at the best prices. it was tragic hearing the stories of loss from the earthquake 30 years to the day of the last catastrophe.
these shots from the first 2 days proper update soon.
rob had time off between work in michigan and nevada. we saw the burnside skatepark we played on PS1 in tony hawks pro skater when we were kids, saw 2001: a space odyseey in 70mm (beautiful new print) then ended the trip by going up to snowqualmie falls to see where they shot a lot of twin peaks.
its been luxe being able to walk to gigs at portland’s synth library but this night the ash from the 10,000 Ha Eagle Creek Fire was falling like snow, stinging my eyes.
was so wonderful seeing Steve n Rach and checking out some of Portlands waterfalls 🙏🏻🐿🌲
finishing the colour grade on Chasing Palm Springs and remembering what the Australian outback looks like.
the Lumetri scopes that help so much with this process catching the sunset better than the camera - kinda looks like Indigenous Australian art.
((obligatory eclipse content))
((was filming for the 99.2%))
another pretty park. thought about my mums rose garden in the first house i knew and about her mother who also loved roses.
she somehow held onto enough money to leave each and every grandchild some which i was spending here.
PDX is the airport abbreviation that gets used as the portland brand. pdx is divided up into quarters that are listed on every street sign - im in NE.
i love this city. its got what you want. theres blackberries everywhere. the bus system works. people are nicer in oregon than california. theres old cinemas, squirrels, modular synth factories, gluten free breweries. 2 weeks in and i wanna stay longer than the 2 more remaining on my sublet.
crappy iphone photos for now ill take my camera out more soon.
went to sauvie island blueberry picking (which is almost done for the season). tasting goood on my bircher muesli
Left Trinidad not knowing whether to sublet in LA or Portland but the rent prices in LA where just too high. The climate was the other deciding factor. So I headed north.
This dude that lived at the Trinidad rest areas ‘nicest rest areas ever’ talked up this road that runs along the coast and how decayed it was. While i was shooting it some more sand n rock crumbled down so I didnt stay all too long. Theres a modest mouse song ‘wow said the broken californian down, at the beach that used to be by the beach’.
Hooked up my sublet and then headed into Mt Hood national park for some free camping before moving in. Douglar fir, hot springs and waterfalls.
fern canyon, redwood forest.
my longest hike so far was from fern canyon to james irvine trail, along to miners ridge trail then back along clintonia to fern canyon about 10 miles. it really was beyond any environment ive seen firsthand. it was hard work and i regretting not packing food but just astoundingly beautiful forest.
they shot some scenes in jurassic park ii and that bbc documentary about dinosaurs here. #funfact
avenue of the giants.
not many standard tree pictures made the cut cause well, they just dont tell the story. its easier to get a sense of what theyre like from theyre massive roots or the destruction of their collapse.
it was funny walking around here - i could almost hear mum n dad quoting tolkien to each other or luc n gabe talking about the ecology.
theres c00l captions on the pics check them outt bro.
jackson state forest. $8/night makes redwoods $35/n look as steep as it is.
met a cool couple from oakland (where id just been staying myself). he was a swedish engineer who had gone travelling alone to china post divorce and met his partner there. they had too much food which i helped them eat and some wine and campfire. nice.
this hike neighbours onto a prison of somesort on one side and a scout camp on the other. some cars went by the trailhead but other than that it was a completely solitary 4.5 miles - except for the odd squirrel. s e r e n e
