    The Feast of Booths or the Feast of Tabernacles will be celebrated from the 18th to the 25th of September 2013. The holiday is celebrated for 7 days, the first day like Yom Kippur is a Sabbath day, and work is forbidden that day. On each day of the holiday meals are eaten inside the Sukkah, some people sleep there as well.  Happy Sukkot!

Patriot Day: Sharing the spirit of a brave and united America

Patriot Day is an annual observance to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The flag of the United States of America is flown at half mast on all American houses, the White House and all US government buildings as a mark of respect. Prayer meetings are organized and Mass is offered for those who lost their lives. Many people also send cards to the relatives and friends in remembrance of lost loved ones.

Happy Ganesh Chaturthi

The Hindu festival- Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on the 9th of September, 2013 by Hindus all over the world. It is a 10 day festival during the Hindu month of ‘Bhadra’ celebrating the rebirth of Lord Ganesh, the God of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. In India, ‘Pandals’ are erected and decorated for people to pay homage to life like models of Lord Ganesh. In certain localities cultural performances and stage shows also occur. People celebrate the blessings of Lord Ganesh by sending greeting cards; they wish their friends and family success in all endeavors and Good luck and prosperity for the rest of the year.

Celebrations carry on for 10 days and end on 'Ananta Chaturdashi'. On the 11th day the models of Lord Ganesh are carried to a river, lake or pond and immersed. Immersion of the idol is symbolic- Lord Ganesh will travel to his abode and take away all misfortunes with him.
