what’s most insane about tubbo backing dream into a corner until he felt forced to come out with queer as a label for the first time (despite the fact that mind you. He has come out like four separate times in the past as not straight) is that it’s quite literally a position tubbo has been in. he knows how it feels to feel forced to come out because of being pressured about queerbaiting. he had a pride flag in his bio for well over a year and everyone took it as a “joke” and attempted to call him out for it when it was really him trying to subtly come out without having to make some sort of official coming out announcement. and regardless of that, he was eventually backed into a corner by his audience to do it anyway because they just could not be normal and take the hint. so to have experienced that and know how shitty it is to be forced to out yourself to disprove horrid claims people are making about you and then still back others into a corner about it because you’re making insane baseless claims that they’re queerbaiting by… having close personal relationships with another man that happens to show in their content. is just so incredibly disgusting and disappointing. i cannot imagine having faced that myself and not left it with any awareness about how i should be more sensitive to issues surrounding queer identity and grant the grace to others that i was never afforded. it's just shocking and above all else it's so heartless and dehumanizing. but anything goes if it means gaining twitter brownie points for being an asshole and dehumanizing dream i guess

the second thing i immensely hate about this idea being spread by tubbo and his audience that you MUST be explicitly out as queer to be a creator and close with your same sex friends otherwise you’re queerbaiting is how fucking backwards and harmful it is. and the fact that it holds such insane broader implications. in saying that dream is queerbaiting by being close with george unless he explicitly comes out as queer, you are gatekeeping the queer community. which is the antithesis to literally everything the queer community is meant to be, and is bordering on being harmful right wing rhetoric with how it sows divisions in the community that are exactly what the right wants. it pushes even further into harmful right wing rhetoric by how backhandedly heteronormative and toxic it is—it is essentially saying that unless you are gay and publicly out as a man, you actually are not allowed to have close or emotional friendships with other men. real people are allowed to explore queerness without having to label themselves. real people are allowed to push those boundaries of exploration with their close friends. having a platform or being a celebrity does not suddenly mean you are not allowed to explore your identity in whatever way you are most comfortable without feeling pressured to draw a conclusion on what exact boxes and labels you fit under. to push the idea that you are not queer unless you explicitly select a label and loudly come out as queer sends such an invalidating message to so many queer people, especially those who are in positions where they can’t come out for their own safety and ONLY have online spaces to express themselves in an explicitly queer manner. and those are the ideas that tubbo is pushing to his young and impressionable queer audience, who take that with them into spaces beyond just his chat and their stan accounts. and it’s not an issue that’s exclusive to tubbo, but the fact that he of all people is pushing it when he also struggled with being forced to come out and label himself by an audience that kept pressuring him under a microscope when he was a teenager is ignorantly gross at best and immensely harmful in ways that extend far beyond dream at worst.
