i'm sending my theory before i forget. i think george stepping back from the fandom was the start of dream stepping back (he did it more for other reasons later). he clearly finds a lot of comfort in george and george not being involved as content made dream mirror that a lil bit. the most active we see dream now is when george decides to stream + part of that is him missing george but he is on it once george goes live

dream stepped back from the fandom because he got to leave his house and realized he was chronically online in unhealthy ways and also he got his ass beat for being parasocial and i think the drituation and other things he had been criticized for kind of stemming from that and him having to address it led to him distancing himself. i do miss his parasocial era but im aware it’s kind of for the better that he doesn’t overshare on the internet anymore

i originally was going to say it feels like dream and george seemed to lean towards online collabs/non traditional opportunities whereas sapnap was collabing with cheez itz, the nfl, etc. which is similar to what their ex friends have done. but during the LA era dnf were both going to snapchat/youtube HQ and doing things along those lines. so perhaps it’s a loss of motivation after 2023/early 2024. who knows. creators who have been more publicly canceled (like james charles) have been getting great opportunities even recently so perhaps it’s a lack of management pushing for those things for dream team now because it is not cheap to hire professionals to get that done for you. ken eurich (an influencer) posted a tiktok this week about how she used to pay $6,000 a month for a team to promote her and get her opportunities

i get sad seeing where dream team’s careers are at compared to others because obviously they’ve been extremely successful and are set for life which is a huge accomplishment, but even as the minecraft/gaming/streaming space has slowed down their former peers are getting huge opportunities still. maybe dream team are all happy where they’re at but it feels strange to watch

with dream specifically it’s crazy because he is still pulling in a massive audience on youtube that has outlived the audiences of a lot of these creators who peaked in 2021 Specifically in making minecraft content. and yet ! for example i just checked tommy innit’s youtube channel. in the last year he posted 19 youtube videos, and only 2 of these videos were specifically of him playing minecraft. the highest amount of views among these 2 got 429k views. the other one did not even break 200k views. they were both sky block videos. in terms of videos talking About minecraft, he has posted 2 in the last year which each respectively pulled 749k views and 843k views. the higher of the two videos was one talking about the dream smp. that’s 4 videos about minecraft in the last year, none of which broke 1 million views on his 15 million subscriber channel. his last video to break 1 million views was a tribute video to technoblade posted over a year ago. this doesn’t apply as much to quackity because he streams his labor abusing server on twitch, but for curiosity’s sake: his last minecraft video on his main youtube channel was a collaboration with dream team posted 4 years ago. These are the creators they’re having do direct collaborations with minecraft and promote the movie. dream has 34 million youtube subscribers and posts exclusively minecraft videos and his last 3 videos alone, all posted within the last 3 months, have pulled a combined 35 MILLION views. i hate playing the numbers game with youtubers but oh my god

because to add on to what i just said in the answer to that ask i think the minecraft community is this weird insular bubble where everybody has made up a villain version of dream in their head to hate and then when you step outside that network of loosely connected creators and see like. the newer guard of self-established more recent mcyts they’re all normal about dream because they don’t have years of the gossip mill rotting their brains and making them a worse person. and yet the people getting acknowledged by the game itself are the ones who exist within that insular network of weird high schooler behavior who are incapable of being normal about dream and instead just always use him as a punching bag when it just isn’t necessary. and i think is indicative of their overall immaturity and hatefulness as people

there’s so many movies based on games and minecraft is the only one who involves creators so heavily 😭

i mean i do think the difference is it’s a silly movie based on a sandbox game whose reputation at any given time is wholly sourced from what players of the game and popular creators are doing in the you can do anything and play however you want game. so collaborating with creators does make sense but well why must the most annoying, ate up, immature, and hateful motherfuckers ever get these opportunities

i think they shouldn’t be looping in creators at all but if they’re going to they need at least a dream reference. it’s ignorant of them to not do so

yeah i think if they’re really trying to maintain a clear name for their brand then collaborating with ANY creators is not the smartest idea. but if they’re going to do it then it’s stupid and a lost opportunity to not even reference the Biggest Minecraft Creator Ever

it was very stupid and cringe but i had an appreciation for its earnest goofiness. it is not a good movie. it sure exists

unfortunately at the end of the day they only want to associate with creators that the public won’t have bad reactions to and they probably don’t want to deal with the social media mess if dream was involved :( because no one is normal about him

i know why it just makes me slightly evil that they’re finally doing official collaborations with minecraft creators where they’re putting their names in game and stuff. And nowhere to be found is the biggest minecraft creator ever
