Hollis grew up on a free love commune.  While he was close to his mother, the environment did not believe in taking “ownership” of children, believing in raising children on a “takes a village” community efforts instead.

His mother raised Hollis with no real sense of “gendered roles”, having believed she was pregnant with a girl at the start.  He is very close to his mother but, until recently, had no idea who his father was.

Hollis was excited to spread his wings outside the commune and left around seventeen, accompanied by his childhood friend. The two traveled and were inseparable until his desire to meet his father brought them on different paths and he went on alone.

Traveled the country through a combo of driving, hiking, and hitch hiking. He stayed with friends of his ‘family’ along with strangers.  He did meet his dad along the way, briefly, but it was rather underwhelming and he found himself looking to leave over anything else. He’s only recently adopted his fathers surname (Campbell).  Most of his ID’s still refer to him as “Hollis Wilde”. 

In his travel’s, he stumbled across and befriended a Costa native.  This was not the first time he met someone with delightfully quaint things to say about the town, but this was the first to invite him along. After taking a few months to debate, he decided to give the city a chance.

Currently he works at Pacific Wave as both a sales clerk and an occasional surf teacher.  He much prefers teaching surf to selling but the work is enjoyable enough.  Connecting with customers fuels him

Carries his pet sugar glider with him most places - otherwise known as Steven Peabody. 

He’s never been picky with what work he will or won’t do and, through taking on odd jobs, has become something of a jack of trades. Practical skills like basic car care, plumbing, construction - anything involving “handiwork”, Hol is good to give it a stab. 

Bought a house with Joey a month after coming to Costa, where they now all room together with Caleb.

A very physical person, in line with his interest in sports.  He’s one of those obnoxious kids who likes showing you that he can do backflips and had a fun time doing gymnastics as a younger kid, teaching himself parkour. Surprisingly, he’s got some very good dance moves 

Despite that wanderlust, Hollis always finds his way back to nature, especially the ocean.  It’s part of what endeared him to visit Costa. He has many loves but surfing in the sea was his first.  He’ll rise early to get out on the shore.

Famously bad flirt with an inability to close in any scenario. Though he will deny it left right and center, our boy is still holding on to his lil v. card.

catch this wave - teaching someone to enjoy the art of surfing will literally make this puppy dog the happiest on the planet. he’s not the best teacher, but he’s got enough enthusiasm to make up for the words he lacks. chances are, he’ll teach you to surf then take you for a beer after

somewhere along the way - ten years of travel left ten years of open connections.  he’s made a show of himself in many odd cities and strives to leave an impression, excited to cultivate a long friends list online.  maybe he fixed a flat for you on his way into town or helped you find that perfect top in a supermarket; it may be mundane but he’s the aggressively social sort with no qualms about approaching first.

perpetually unrequited - dust out the himbo, we have a crossbreed with simp here.  hollis grew up with a school of women and, for all he understands them, he just can’t seem to make that move into something more and it’s even worse with men. everyone’s his friend but he’s utterly failed at finding a lover, giving pieces of his heart to everyone while trying to hide his mooning eyes

tutor the teacher -  he is a very smart, very dumb boy who is always interested in learning more.  do you know how to cook a mean pot roast? solid, he’ll teach you how to read palms. have a knack for maintaining plants? perfect, hollis will show you how to craft a pottery vase. trading skills is his favorite pastime.

The last thing Leo expected when he left the stage was a show of hatred; an empty cup flying in his direction. It wasn’t until he recognized the singsong tune of a voice that he let his guard down. He picked up the cup now at his feet, hurling it back with his throwing arm. “Fuck off,” he muffled through laughter. “Wanna ruin my career before it’s even reached its peak?” Leo decided he was far too sober if he’d noticed how drunk Hollis was. “I’m on break. Help me catch up to your level?”

Hollis laughed louder, dodging the cup with everything but the top of his shoulder. Leftover beer spilled down his back, a baby dribble and he shakes with a mirth only drunkenness' could offer. “I’m sure it’s your own sobriety holdin’ you back here, friend. Here!” The extra solo cup he thrusts forward has clearly spilled one too many times on it’s journey over, the beer inside yellow and undoubtedly lite. "Chug your way to my level!” He winks, gesturing back towards where the rest of hype house is dancing.  “Is this like, where you live then?”

Hurtling full pelt towards the beach, the chances Joey will eat dust or barf all over herself ( or both ) are pretty high. Still, recklessness is in her fabric, a weave stitched through a dozen or more outings with Hollis. She stops when she’s almost at the water, beer abandoned in the sand to strips. Joey’s fingers are clumsy on the buttons of her shorts when he zooms past. “That’s cheating!” she almost yanks her bikini bottoms down too in her haste, crashing into the water after him and shrieking in delight. If anyone is accustomed to Costa’s cold waters it’s them, dedicating hours most day to pursuing Las Olas’ namesake waves. Joey cuts through the water to throw an arm around his neck. “No fair. Your legs are triple the length of mine.”

“Being better isn’t cheating!” His voice is incredulous, doing something of a somersaulted shimmy out of the last of his clothes and tumbling in.  There’s a wickedness in the happy turn of his eyes, glee overtaking the whole of his face when Joey swims closer. The curves of his arms balances most of her weight, except for a hand that rests respectfully on a naked hip (is that her hip?).  The waves aren’t gentle but Hollis floats easy enough.  “I’m not that much taller, Jo. I’m just, you know, stronger.  And faster.  And in better shape,” his chin tilts up, smirking.  "Feel free to add- I know that sort of physical display is bound to impress.”

“Hey DJ!” He tosses an empty cup towards the taller boy stepping down from the mixtable, swaying rather noticeably. “Ya gonna play anything good?”  He’s letting loose something of a giggle between the words, eyes far too jovial for any taunt to be taken seriously as he swings himself nearer.  “By good I’m thinkin like...Toto by Africa or maybe a bit of Nickelback? You know, something to really get the blood pumpin’.”  He offers Leo a grin far too wide on a face far more intoxicated.

Attempting to keep up with his inebriated roommate had done a number on Hollis.  Having only barely arrived at the party he was already six beers deep, drenched in salt water and fighting off a bitch of a charley horse in his left leg.  And so the young night was shaping into as good a party as any, by Hollis’s standards.  He was buzzing on his own drunken glory when he spotted silvered hair and a familiar form. 

“Sierra~!” Her name is a song on his lips, drawn long and out of key as he runs to her in a jumping lope of a gaze. “My friend. My pal. Mi amigo~” Hollis grins, “Do you have a towel or a...a ...” his hands gesture vaguely around his hair, the long locks swinging wet about them. “Or, you know, a drink? Any of the above really.” He swings a wet arm around her shoulder and laughs. “You doing good? Having fun?”

“Are you sober?” Joey’s grin falters then, appalled. “You can’t be sober on the island, Hol. It’s the rules. The clue’s in the name.” She’s slurring a little, far from shy when a hand darts down her bikini top to shake sand free. There’s a couple making out nearby—too much tongue for Joey, but plenty to distract them whilst she snags their six pack. The tins jostle together in her hand and she grabs Hollis’ with the other, but just the mention of the ocean distracts her. “Race ya,” she doesn’t give him time to answer before she barrels towards the water, beers in tow and all.

“More sober than you, yeah,” the words are a laugh, lifting like a song as he helps Joey to her feet. Shit - he’s staring without meaning to, watching a precarious battle between bikini and breasts.  Thank god she’s drunk, he thinks, fixing his eyes respectfully back on Jo’s. “I’m low on shot money that’s half my - Wait!”  She’s moving to fast, one moment in front of him, the next hurtling towards the water. He’s after her in the next, chucking shirt and shoes on the way.  “If I beat you....even when you had a cheating start,” he huffs, gaining on her fast, “then you owe me something good!”

“Hol!” Tiny as she is, Joey’s voice cleaves through the crowd like a knife. She comes barrelling through with less precision, scattering couples and solo cups alike. It’s too late for brakes; she careens into him, sending them both into the sand in a tangle of limbs. “Are you having fun?” She’s drunk, or on something—it’s too dark on this part of the beach to tell. She grins, rolling off of him. “Come hang out with me and Oz.”

Hollis turns just in time, his name shouted over the crowd as his friend careens past drunk dancers in a shaking pounce of a hug. With an “oof,” he raises an arm to catch Joey around the waist, laughing as his back accepts the sandy fall. “I’m having fun now! Yeah?” He’s only slightly off guard - one sniff and he knows exactly what’s helping Jo have such a good night. He helps her up, grinning. “Help me catch up to you, Jo. Then maybe we get these squares in the ocean.”
