-    holly was originally established by me in 2022 before she played any remotely significant role in the series . as a result , she was sort of developed as an oc of mine as a teenager , set in the nineties . i will write holly primarily in two different verses ; her older verse ( aged 16 , set in 1996 ) or compliant to season 5 , in which i will be vague about her age because the duffers decided to mess with it beyond repair . i also have an au where holly is nine months younger than mike , making them irish twins . i'm happy to adapt her into any universe otherwise . -    i also consider this blog to be largely canon divergent & headcanon - based . while i will take some of holly's storyline from season 5 , some of her personality will likely diverge from canon . i will keep to my own interpretation the most . -    i will not be romantically shipping with holly under any circumstances . however , i am happy to develop different dynamics in any of her verses or aus .

-    this  account  will  be  low  activity  &  ooc  heavy  . i will use minimal formatting , graphics & will often be iconless .    i  haven't written on tumblr in years now so i will be prioritizing just having a good time .

alright before the finale, i want to say that my holly has powers. she will continue to have powers after this is all over because she has always had powers. her sixth sense is a part of her and the reason she's always felt a pull towards the supernatural, always noticed things no one else does and always stumbled upon interactions with the upside down. in the same way she is drawn to it, it is drawn to her, because there is something not quite human about her. this is something that follows her for her entire life and across universes. thank you.

the chill of winter is sharp against your heated flesh , the sun beginning to sink down in the distance doing little to make the bite of the wind less harsh . your bike hits the ground just off the pavement & you adjust your jacket & the sweater beneath , reaching to adjust the beanie over the tips of your ears . " jesus , it's really cold , huh ? " a quick laugh that shows with the breath it exhales in . snow & dead leaves crunch beneath your feet , mixing with the faint creak of the swing moving idly from the last gust of wind . a tinge of regret spikes from dragging holly out of the house in this kind of weather . you just wanted to spare her , & yourself , from the argument between your parents that had sparked just before dinner . " hey , i'll race you to the swing ? " head motions toward it for emphasis , lips curling with a playful grin as your dark eyes land on holly .

you’re  too  smart  for  your  own  good  .    at  least  ,  that’s  what  your  teachers  tell  you  .    you  haven’t  always  understood  how  something  like  that  can  be  true  ,  when  smart  is  what  everyone  expects  you  to  be  .    but  getting  older  ,  you’re  starting  to  realize  what  being  too  smart  for  your  own  good  really  means  .    you  know  it’s  too  late  to  be  outside  playing  .    it’s  too  cold  ,  too  ,  snow  crunching  under  your  boots  as  you  follow  behind  your  brother  .    you  know  he  knows  you  don’t  like  when  they  fight  &  you  know  that’s  why  you’re  here  .    you  know  they  were  fighting  about  you  .    but  you  don’t  really  mind  it  ,  bundled  up  tightly  in  a  puffer  coat  &  an  oversized  scarf  .    you’ve  always  loved  the  snow , & more than that , you love spending time together  .    a  race  ,  he  says  ,  &  your  solemn expression crumbles to give way to a grin , eyes  full  of  light    —    without  a  word  ,  you  take  off  running  towards  the  swingset  ,  laughter  filling  the  silent  winter  air  ,    “  last  one  there  is  a  rotten  egg  !  ”

in stark contrast to mike,

i DO like holly's story so far this season. seeing her scream and run and fight and claw her way to try and get home. seeing mike, nancy and karen shine so much in her. i'm so upset for her and i'm so scared for her but i like this story for her and i think i will definitely be incorporating a good chunk of her experiences into my canon permanently. except for her randomly having two best friends i still think holly is generally a bit of a social outcast, but that's not really of any major consequence.

i think it'll take a little more time to fully articulate my thoughts and figure out exactly how my canon for holly will work, i'll definitely be waiting until after the finale to go more in depth for her but she is such a fucking fighter. i love her.

okay so i have a lot of stuff to say and i'm excited to talk about the new season but i just wanted to state an additional rule for this blog, spoiler-free since i've been feeling this way since vol one. i am not going to be comfortable interacting with any henrys/vecnas on this account. due to the nature of his dynamic with holly i don't think it would be a fun or fulfilling writing experience for me. i have had plenty of fun writing with villains before, but specifically when it comes to him and holly, the themes present in their dynamic is not something i want to explore further. thank you <3

the glen is a flare of winter light, snow swirling like dust, the world bright enough to sting the eyes.  a figure bursts through the treeline,  breath steaming in uneven bursts, frost clinging to his cloak ── to his lashes, to the strands of hair escaping his hood.

“ holly! ” his voice cracks through the quiet. for a moment, there is only silence, desperate eyes searching for any sign of life … then he sees her. 

standing alone in the heart of the glen, surrounded by drifting snowflakes ── relief floods him so suddenly his knees nearly give. crossing the distance quickly, boots sinking deep into the frozen ground. “ don’t ─ ” he reaches for her, gloved fingers hovering near her arm but not quite touching, as if he's afraid she might vanish like smoke.

“ ─ please don’t wander off like that. not today. not with the storm growing and the tracks we found in the northern pass. ”

the snowflakes whisper to holly as they fall past her face , melt against the flushed warmth of her cheeks , hushed tones audible only to her . they tell fantastical stories of the journey they'd taken to fall back to the ground as perfectly crystalized little stars , of all the things they've seen here & beyond , & she , of course , listens . she doesn't realize how far she'd followed those otherworldly voices until will's , calling her name , ushers her from the daydream .

a gust of wind displaces the hood of her cloak from its place on her head , sending what just this morning was a head of perfect blonde ringlets every which way in a flurry of snowflakes .

“ will ! ” all smiles & dimpled cheeks , she seems not to notice the frantic state in which he runs to her -- or maybe she simply disregards it . instead , holly takes the hand that reaches for her , then the other , swinging both of their arms out to the side , “ can't we enjoy this beautiful weather while it lasts ? look ! ”

letting go of will's hands , she gestures out towards the clearing , then lets her arms lead her in a circle before she comes to a stop , staring past him now & out towards a distant , snow - covered castle , just barely visible through the weather which worsens by the hour . holly , unlike her siblings or her parents , sees it as nothing short of a wonder , “ isn't it beautiful ? the snowflakes brought me here . ”

this is such a good question. i think her favorite is cheer bear, because evidently she's a big rainbow girl! but as for which bear she is, i'm torn between bedtime bear & wish bear because she is so associated with really fantastical stories like alice in wonderland, the wizard of oz & little red riding hood. she's also just always been very daydream-y to me.

she isn’t scared . not really . this thing , this shadowy presence — it’s been there for some time , hasn’t it ? it must have been years ago when holly first became aware of its existence . like a static , or a ringing in her ears , or a frequency no one else could hear that followed her mother around like a dull gray cloud settled over her . it was scary . once . not yet five , she’d failed to comprehend what had shifted , or that something had even changed . as if some innate sense had overtaken her , a feeling , like something terrible might happen , like she needed to be wary , careful . & then she found herself drawn to it . this strange thing . this something that had attached itself to her mom & now resided inside her . alien , of course , but very quickly it ceased to be scary . eventually , it ceased to be much of anything at all but simply there .

“ i’m not scared of you . ” earnestly , confidently . she stares , as if attempting to peer further than karen’s face . to take a look inside of her mind . to search , in vain , for this thing . when she sees nothing , she closes her eyes & feels it . allows that frequency to fill her ears & her mind , hoping that to let it in might mean some sort of whispered answer , or explanation . it offers nothing but that feeling , that dread , that pit in her stomach & eventually it is drowned out by the increasing rate of her heartbeat , the rush of blood in her ears . holly opens her eyes , lips set in a deep frown . moving closer , both hands reach for her mother & , as if mirroring all the years of comfort she’d received , they rest gently on either side of her face . holly looks into karen’s eyes , then tucks a piece of an unraveling curl behind her ear .

there's little that holly remembers of the time prior to now , prior to waking up in a hospital bed . what she does remember is being trapped inside of a daydream , never - ending & inescapable . she remembers max & her story & the dark , oppressive atmosphere of the world henry took her to . it's been less than a day since her eyes opened again . her parents rest somewhere else in this hospital , maybe even on this floor , but they can't see her in states far worse than her own . joyce sits beside her instead , something scared yet determined in her gaze as holly meets it in kind . her presence is a welcome one , a source of warmth & comfort in the otherwise sterile cold of the hospital room . she's family , a bond grown since the byers first took refuge in the wheelers' home over a year ago .

“    this is all my fault .      ” her voice is small as it leaves her , hoarse from lack of use since the night of her vanishing . closing her eyes , holly revisits the memories in her mind , still as vivid as they'd been in front of her eyes . every encounter with mr . whatsit , every lie she believed , every lie she told . her hands wring together restlessly in her lap . “    i had a bad feeling all along . . . i knew something was wrong . i . . . i thought it was the monsters , i thought he wanted to help & i fell for it .      ”
