While every piece of media is entitled to a feminist critique it truly is laughable when people act like its exceptionally unacceptable to say that Avatar shouldn't be subjected to feminist critique. The creators are the ones who made it a feminist property. They invited a feminist lens the second Sokka was sexist to Katara in the first episode. And I'm sorry, but their understanding of feminism is literally only something 7-year-olds can process. Like. Something thats really interesting to me is that Rin and Altan actually do have a family resemblance. At first thought, you might think that their similarities are just ethnic features, but no. Because Rin doesn't have a family resemblance to Mai’rinnen Tearza. In the books, Altan is described as having serious eyes and a sharp, angular face, but Rin never describes her own facial features until Chaghan gives her a vision of Hanelai. And then, it's the same features. An eye shape that makes her look constantly sullen (probably deep-set eyes), a pointed chin, a sharp, angular jaw. To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if Rin and Altan’s hypermobility weren't also another family trait, because it generally isn't an ethnic thing, but I, someone with hypermobility, have multiple cousins with it.

Honestly rereading the burning god and I realize Rin really isn't as bad as people make her out to be like the stuff she gets blamed for isn't even her fault. The famine? Yeah that was because the Mugens slashed, burned, and salted farmland and then Chaghan and Qara broke the four gorges dam. The bloodshed in the South? That's Vaisra's fault for not doing anything about it. Losing that many soldiers in the Baolai range? They were going to die anyway in the Anvil and it would've taken longer because Gurubai and Souji betrayed Rin and wouldn't listen to her marching orders. She kept getting dealt shit hands and getting put of the mess but somehow she's the one blamed for it.
