I LIVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE (+ Happy 1 year anniversary to EH2!))))
where does it hurt / spy x family
Okay, but Sherlock caring and worrying for Enola is just *chefs kiss*
When he mentions that her neck is red, and his face just drops and you can see the emotion- and then when she’s arrested and this unemotional man gets emotional and completely loses it.
And the end, how desperately during the fight scene he was trying to get to her only to kept being pushed back.
I need more of this sibling relationship
Holmesbury Fans :
Enolas mum was like "honey you need other people"
So she went out and got herself a boyfriend.
Then saw how lonely her brother was and got him one too.
Good for her.
I wonder who taught you to fight like that. Another thing our mother has to answer for.
ENOLA & TEWKESBURY in ENOLA HOLMES 2
I know we have much to talk of my dear, dear, lord! You love me! And as it turns out, I love you too!
ENOLA HOLMES 2 ━ 2022, dir. Harry Bradbeer
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
The night is etched deeply in her mind and is unlikely ever to be forgotten - and time will prove that just so - but even that night, when she held back her sobs in the carriage ride to 221B Baker Street and she collapsed into her unsurprised brother’s arms to finally unfold, whatever the reason Enola turned him down, she knows she did it out of love.
I hope we get a third Enola. All the characters are so amazing and lovely, the actors have incredible chemistry. The story was really good and I had a blast.
Second watch thoughts (SPOILERS)
See my first post and initial reaction here!
"Some of what follows is true. The important parts at least." > Now I fully appreciate this! I love how they took a very important piece of history to be the heart of the mystery and it's also rather relevant for our times as well.
The Moriarty reveal... GASLIGHT. GATEKEEP. GIRLBOSS. And i loved watching my friend's reaction to it as well haha. Still loved the little plants beforehand.
The blue dress with the metal buttons after the jail break scene... *chef's kiss* tbh Enola, Henry and Tewky were serving lewks throughout
Tewky coming after Enola because he was worried 🥺😭 okay Mr Supportive but Protective Husband!!!!!
On that note, we STILL don't have a first name for Tewky?? Or did I miss that again?
The carriage scene... THE. CARRIAGE. SCENE. *swoons*
Tewky going "I may need more of those lessons" in that whispery tone... GOODBYE I AM DECEASED
I love how rough the fight scenes are. There's a realism to the lack of fluidity. Marvel/other action heavy movies often lose me on the fight scenes because they're always too choreographed and value looking cool over realism. The fight between Grail and Enola does feel like a genuine tussle between a murderous middle aged man and a feisty teen girl that doesn't seem to fear death lol
"You were made to fight." (Reprise). *me dying (reprise)*
The match girls walking out to the Enola Holmes theme and HBC going "That's a whole lot of noise." makes my heart happy <3
Pay what you can <33333
Enola low key fangirling but keeping it together when Sherlock suggested Holmes & Holmes. She really is a lil sis looking up to her big bro 🥺
I know Thursday at 4pm ended with our Dr Watson but I do hope they have Holmes siblings tea time 🥺
MISS MORIARTY ON THE RUN
This Dr John Watson is so goddamn adorable omg 😭
Addressing prior criticisms I had...
So now that i watched Mae's death scene again, I think Enola's reaction was not as off as I thought it was. Pretty in line with her neurodivergent (my HC) character. I do wish Mae's death had more of a lasting impact and that more levity was given to that moment.
Still think Holmesbury is a lil too rushed. The love confession still didn't sit right with me and felt wedged in (though did muster a second squeal from me because come on I'm a sucker for anything Holmesbury). They are cute as buttons though
Tewky saying he's occupied with politics dashes my hopes of him being a Watson for Enola but hey we have an actual Dr Watson. Hope there will be future scenes of them commiserating about their respective Holmes sibling 🤣
Other criticisms...
Sarah Chapman (a real historial figure) = Lady Cecily in the books... I suppose she won't be a recurring character in future movies then? Unless Cecily still exists in this universe and has allowed Sarah to take on her identity to attend that ball to meet Tewky? Though I suppose since they have completely deviated from the books, it's more of an homage than anything and future movies, if any, would just be new mysteries which I won't mind either
Anyway, I still think this was a solid sequel! A little hiccups but still tons of fun and the spirit of the first carried forward.
i love the thought of enola always going to the park because she saw tewksbury there once and he walks there everyday because he saw her there once but they don't acknowledge each other being in the same park like almost every single day because they're teenagers with Feelings
my other interpretation for the scene is that they do that whole "wow i'm so surprised to see you here" spiel like once a week and are trying to have the other person say first that they go to the park each morning to see the other
Sherlock Holmes? [Yes…?] I’m here for my appointment. You’re seeking a flatmate?
ENOLA HOLMES 2 (2022)
indian John Watson y'all we fucking won
Just finished EH2 and I have some Thoughts™️ (Potential Spoilers!)
First off, I absolutely loved the film overall. Still excellent production that exceeded the first one. They definitely had better budget this time around.
Second off, Henry Cavill. He is an icon, a legend and THE moment. Easily the best aspect of the movie
Holmesbury moments did not disappoint one bit. All squee worthy and gives me the warm fuzzy feels
Good plot! Kept me guessing and I feared a level of mediocrity but the twists were good and there was obvious effort put to the script
Helena Bohem Carter. Tis her!!!
Improved diverse characters! Realistic lives of the average Victorian women! It's not just bustles and corsets!
Dr. John Watson. I'm obsessed.
Now for the critique...
I wish Holmesbury was more of a slow burn. It seemed like it was going to be that way but they escalated from the reconciliation to play fighting and then to kissing which is adorable... but just not quite as satisfying? I wish there was a lil bit more of the will they wont they. It also kind of leaves little to work with in sequel films (if any). The love confession definitely would have had greater emotional payoff in a third movie.
Enola's reactions to finding dead people is a lil...off. i get that she's basically meant to be another Sherlock but she's still very much a girl and I'm sure coming across the first dead body (and one who died right in front of you!) would be a moment that would have been given more levity. An opportunity to show this young detective that this job isn't just fun, chases and intriguing puzzles
Where's Mycroft?
I know I have more thoughts but my head is still abuzz. Going to be watching it again with a friend tomorrow and I'll see what else I pick up!
Edit: Second watch thoughts posted!
