i know that exile arc was happening at the same time so it often gets overlooked, but new lmanburg trying (and failing) to be a functional country is one of the greatest arcs to me

like hi guys here’s our hormonal teenage president who’s having a morality crisis over exiling his best friend and a sexuality crisis over his minutes man, who is in fact some random creature who just showed up to our country and doesn’t really fully get why we’re so traumatized. the ghost of the guy who destroyed the nation is floating around but we’re not allowed to be mean to him cause he’s basically a child. oh also we need to go kill that anarchist who fucked up our hostile take over of this country asap and i’m sure that will create zero issues and is definitely a priority rn.

10/10 era truly, the country LOOKS absolutely beautiful and functions like absolute shit. nobody actually likes each other and yet they all care for each other in such a deep undeniable way.

the thing that gets me about tntduo and the "obsession" that is characteristic of it. is that wilbur's obsession with quackity comes from a projection of his own tragedy. quackity's story is always a beat or two behind wilbur's. by the point of las nevadas quackity has realized this and is attempting to subvert the tragedy that he'll end up with. but wilbur's obsession hangs over this. he acts almost as though he knows something that quackity doesn't. quackity can pretend that this doesn't affect him, but he's too paranoid about his own tragic ending to completely ignore it, and a kind of obsession ends up festering in him too.
