FUCK, I though it was just another lucky meme but LISTEN. Since a week ago I was waiting a phone call to confirm me if I got a job or not in my university. sam is completely touch starved when he arrives at stanford. jess is quick to notice that he never initiates contact, but absolutely melts whenever he receives it. he cries first time she pulls his head into her lap and starts playing with his hair. from then on she makes a point to snuggle into his side, hold his hand, and hug him at every available opportunity

after jess dies, sam's desperation for contact comes back with a vengeance— but he and dean just don't do physical affection like that. helping each other up and brief pats on the shoulder are the closest they get, so sam takes every casual touch he's given and doesn't ask for more. dean helps him reset his dislocated shoulder, and it's almost the same thing

it only gets worse. touch becomes more and more confusing. sam meets an angel who seems reluctant to take his hand and a demon who keeps kissing him even when he pushes her away. the evil inside him isn't hidden in his veins anymore— he's covered in it, dripping poison for the whole world to see. ruby is the only one who can stand to make contact with the filth of him, so he takes her hand and clings to her like a lifeline

being a vessel feels like the punchline to a cruel joke. sam craved touch, and now he gets to drown in it. lucifer fills him up like a seamlessly tailored glove, a perfect fit, and this, sam finally understands, is what he was made for. in his mind, contact becomes synonymous with pain— both are overwhelming and constant. his body is just another version of the cage. sam doesn't want to be touched anymore

even after leaving hell, sometimes he still finds himself fantasizing about slipping out of his own skin and escaping back to stanford
