ok this movie, which just came out this year, i think has snuck into my top 10 of all time. I loved it THAT much.  The trailer is both exactly what it is, and exactly the opposite of what it is. In that this movie is very creepy/unsettling but also 1000% grounded and paced like a sofia coppola movie. It is so slow and “lived in” a ton of wides, a ton of shots of just existing, and: importantly, my favorite depiction of parasocial/youtube specific relationships that i’ve ever seen. it is so unsettling seeing the two circling arrows and waiting for the next clip to come up.  if my movie felt at all like this i’d feel like we pulled it off. this really changes the way i think about movies in general, and the pacing and stuff in this film was an absolute breath of fresh air in terms of horror. its just amazing. also worth noting it was a huge hit at sundance and is doing very well critically and financially

Hey this is an atrium in the botanical gardens here in Denver that I unexpectedly stumbled across. The concrete and skylights are more or less exactly what I imagined for the atrium of the water treatment plant, hell even the plants below it are reminiscent of what I imagined for the like growhouse/garden that David stumbles across walking in.

This is very very very close (little too ornate and of course we’ll maintained) to what I imagined.

Hey! Keri found this amazing location that.... i guess... we might be getting for free or a discount? We’ll need to go look at specific cabins I’m sure to see if we need to build something but damn if this environment isn’t 100% perfect. I bet we can film a lot of the movie here.

Disclaimer: this was the day after a family trauma for him so his performance was a little off. I also didn’t feel like I could quite mold the performance in quite the way I wanted to. It wasn’t there for me, I don’t think it was there for him. But that being said yunno it’s certainly not BAD. I’d like to audition him again under Better circumstances

He’s lanky which makes him look a little taller, but the gun definitely looks a little too big for him. In my mind not big ENOUGH, I think we’d need to exaggerate the rifle beyond normal proportions or give him a particularly large and heavy AR

Basically he shouldn’t have a carbine.

But also: I mean he’s not the smallest kid.

So this is Chattanooga community college, and I realllllly like a lot of the buildings here.

Theres a lot to be said about how much I love a kind of campus feel for the water treatment plant.

Interiors probs wouldn’t work but some atrium areas might

Hydro Dam just upstream of the city…

A dam could 100% work as a substitute for a turbine I think…

Buttttttttt it’ll make the water badness maybe feel a bit too… I dunno… unrealistic? And they used one in last of us

However: it might be very worth to poke around that concrete Building cause I bet it has rad ass interiors

So here’s the actual water treatment campus in chatanooga, along the river and close to downtown

I couldn’t go in, definitely worth poking around. Lots of cool concrete buildings.

Chatanooga: Around lane’s equipment rental (intersection of Hudson rd and terminal)

Some great mostly abandoned industrial sites. Awesome for roads etc

On the river, a “campus” with a lot of brick buildings. Couldn’t go in but worth taking a look at when we come back

Stone summit kennesaw climbing gym

This is exactly the gym I based David’s outpost off of.

Big windows up front, cavernous interior. Above the autobelays you can see the frosted white glass, just below that is where I imagined his lil treehouse

You can also see the dark service door where the monster lives, built into the wall.

There’s also little yoga rooms or classrooms where they have birthday parties that I imagined being the offices

John photo dump! man the top guy i love so MUCH. His skin is so fucking creepy, his legs bend the wrong way. again the way it feels like it’s skin is like molting or halfway through hsedding. i also really love the dude unhinging his jaw to eat the scuba diver/s helmet. the pocks in the skin have big vibes for me. john had the idea of our turtle mouth independently, which is neat. he includded images of the monster from lovecraft country which has a version of this.  all coool stuff here

Monster stuff from kelley top is her own drawing which i really like. Definiitely smoething major to be said about its’ skin kinda dripping off in that way.  the just vibe of the satanic one i like a lot.... HUGE fan of the legs. Let’s keep that in mind.  Mouth is great, John has some other good examples but cthulu mouth for sure
