I need help on a dead!tavros cosplay,I'm puzzled on how to do his robolegs and how I'm going to be able to make the lance he has in his chest, and if I will be able to detach/reattach is for convince, considering I will be in a car to get about most of the time. (It's for Halloween btw) I really need some imput on this, thanks if you reply~

No idea how old this is, I really haven’t been on tumblr in awhile, but robolegs are something you could make out of foam, think of it as body armour for your legs

for the lance, it depends on how heavy you make it. if you make it rather light and smaller, you could have some form of band around wherever the impact site is, but if its huge it’d be harder to do that.

you know those fake knives that go through ppls heads with headbands?? think of something like that, but obviously more structured.

okay so im pretty young and i wanted to start cosplaying for my first time as terezi, but since wigs are so expensive and i have the same hair cut as terezi, is there a way i could temporarily dye my hair without the crappy spray stuff? just asking

If you’re blonde/light brown, I don’t recommend it as it can stain your hair darker… But if your hair is basically black, you could temporary dye your hair, though I don’t know how well the hair colour sprays work. You can find a box of semi-permanent hair dye basically anywhere, if you want to try dying it. It may stain your hair darker, so if you love it, I don't recommend dye, hahaUPDATE: DONT DO IT THAT SPRAY SHIT IS NASTY JUST DONT DO IT

Alright, lets start with the UNDERWEAR.

Your biggest problem is going to be making the fabric for this, though what I've seen for are the basic methods for troll shirts + some new ones. People use markers, fabric paint, stencils, even spoonflower (depending on how much you need, it can be as little as $11 for a nice cotton).

NOW FOR THE GLASSES:

Methods:

Actual glass. You'll need: A glass cutter, permanent markers(not sharpies, they rub off), and a pair of glasses(or two) to destroy. You also might want some high grit sandpaper to smooth the edges after.

Plastic. You'll need: A pair of glasses, red sheets(think school supplies aisle; report covers, honestly anything firmly red), and double sided tape to attach the plastic to the glasses.

The latter make not be as long lasting or pretty, but it's safer and usually cheaper. It depends on how much you're able to spend on it + time.

So at my first convention, one of my cosplays was Nepeta, and I had a prop that other Nepetas might want to use! I call them "quadrant cards." You take an index card, draw a heart/spade/diamond/club and write an appropriate litte saying below it. For example, one of my Matesprit cards said, "Could we be canon?" and a Kismesis one said "HISSSSS!" If I met a Homestuck, I'd take out the stack and they'd choose a random one. They were a hit! You could put your URL on the card, too.

Google your location with "theatrical makeup" and you'll find at least Ben Nye, though I know a lot of art supply stores sell Snazzaroo. Find some numbers and start calling! okay. dirk wig. ive seen a few on ebay and such, also one on matchwigs. not totally sure which one to go with since my hair is super long and pretty hard to get up into a wig. also i am close to completely broke.

Hm, for your hair problem, I used to have long, it reached my butt tbh, and thick hair that was impossible to do anything with. I recommend braiding your hair in 1-3 braids, depending on the thickness and style, and from there pin them on your head in efforts to lie them flat. (Wet hair also helps with this if it's rather voluminous as well). I would also make sure that you got a wig that is more than big enough for your head. 1/2 an inch will go along way when you have super long hair. Good luck, sweetheart!!

I'm a little, well, large, and I was wondering if maybe you had an idea on what character might be best for me.

Well, it all depends on your headcanons! I personally really love seeing larger cosplayers for all of the kids, and then as well trolls like Vriska because, well, Hussie kinda made that one a fun thing to see. But honestly, pick a costume that YOU'RE comfortable wearing and that you think you look good in!!!!! Who cares what other people think in the long run, as long as you were happy with what you did(and yes, i know it is easier said than done). Have a good day!!

I've never heard of Wolfe's wax-based makeup, but I've heard good things about their water-based FX Hydrocolor Makeup. yaexrae has a great tutorial using it on her blog at post/18535660892

I was on www.facepaint.com tbh and that's where I was doing a lot of the research, but I think their wax line is the really kiddy stuff that you can buy at halloween, because that shit feels really waxy if you get me there? but yeah, I should really use more than one site when it comes down to it, it'll stop me from making posts that I think are wrong yet this one source says is right. u feel me.

I'm planning on making a Jade CrockerCorp cosplay, but I don't even know where to begin. Could you help me with the dress, or the shirt and skirt? (Since there are two different designs.)

I'm doing a living Aradia cosplay, what shoes would you recommend? I can't seem to find anything anywhere about which type of shoe I should use and where I could find some!

If you go with them being laced up opposed to velcro, because really it's more likely that Hussie was just-- doing what Hussie does best and not adding in details to shoes.

Lace up flats? oxfords? brogues even?

I actually had that at first, but that's exactly what I thought they were, but I was doing research and they said they were water-based, but you're right, it was probably because they have a water-based line as well.

What face paint is best? Also, if you have any idea about body paint too, that would be nice.

I can’t really tell you which one is the best, mostly because each one has their own ups and downs, and they’re always better for different skin types. 

The three main kinds that you hear about are Ben Nye, Snazzaroo, and Kryolan. Though, there are a lot of different types of face paints that are good! [[More under the cut]]

Snazzaroo, Kryolan, Diamond FX, and Paradise are all water-activated, and usually dry in about 30 seconds. They’re water-based, therefore they should not break you out if that’s a concern for you!!

Wolfe and TAG are two brands I’ve NEVER heard anyone talk about in the Homestuck fandom. They’re wax based, so they don’t crack like some brands, depending on how thick you apply it and how they dry. 

Note for water based brands: Do not use too much water!! Use minimal amounts of water, the more water, the less opaque, or the lighter, the actual result will be!!

Also, all of these will work for your body, that’s why I don’t really talk about “body paints,” haha. Though, one that people don’t usually use for their face, but they’ll use for their body, is PAX

PAX is kinda cool actually, you can buy it pre-made, or make it yourself. It’s a mix of pros-aide and acrylic paint, usually about 50/50, and it doesn’t rub off, actually it’s known to hurt when it comes off. Pax is one of those paints that people like using for their hands because the clamminess of it doesn’t affect the paint as much as the others.
