“…as a reminder, visibility during the game will be limited,” the laser tag employee drones on in a nasally voice, “the lighting in the arena will look like this.”
The employee leans back and flips a switch on the wall. The fluorescent lighting snaps off, and the room is flooded with dim purple light, revealing the true nature of the surrounding walls. What appeared to be plain white walls are now covered in glowing neon artwork. Tucker lets out a slight gasp at the transformation. It’s just like he remembers it. His eyes trace a beautifully illustrated vine that snakes from the wall to the ceiling. Tucker has almost finished taking in the room in its entirety when he feels a bony jab in his arm. He sucks in a sharp inhale of breath, and turns to Sam, muttering, “What the fuck was…oh. Shit.”
“Shit,” Sam agrees.

“If that gremlin sends me to in school suspension one more time because she thinks my shirt is too low cut I’m going to lose my mind!” Lydia shouted her hands throw in the air.
Stiles chuckled lowly and shook his head in sympathy. The gremlin she was mad at was their geometry teacher who had a tendency of standing above girls and telling them their shirts were too revealing. Stiles had been on the receiving end of Lydia, Allison, and Erica’s rants about the unjust dress codes at their high school since the first day of freshman year.
“I can kill her for you.” Erica offered with faux cheer and a sharp toothed smile.
“You can always drop honors and take Mr.Heathly.” Allison suggested even though she knew Lydia and Erica would never admit defeat.
“Oh cheese and rice can he not do that somewhere else? The high school parking lot is not an auto shop!” Scott complained loudly, knowing fully well that the werewolf currently working on his car could hear him, but to the group he whispered lowly, “That boys a snake in the grass if I ever saw one.”
Stiles broke out into obnoxious laughter when Peter Hale didn’t even pause what he was doing to flip them off. Peter Hale had a fantastic humor and an even better body. Stiles had had a crush on the boy since he first saw him. Naturally Peter didn’t acknowledge Stiles’ existence. Stiles had a type after all.
Stiles wished he knew anything about stupid cars. He personally thought Peter’s truck was loud and obnoxious, but he knew the other seniors would crowd around it and praise the monstrosity so it had to be something special. He also knew it was a Ford, though Derek thought that made it crappy. Derek prefered Chevy’s and the two Hales could be heard making quiet biting comments about which trucks are better.
Peter shut the hood of his truck and turned toward the group of sophomores with a smirk. Stiles’ steps faltered when he looked at Peter, whose dirty wife beater clung to his sweaty chest. Peter was a filthy Adonis with a smart mouth and Stiles was putty around him.
“Gross man!” Scott hissed under his breath.
“Poor Stiles.” Erica crooned at him.
Peter went from giving them a cocky smirk to a shit eating grin as his nostrils flared and his eyes snapped to Stiles.
“I uh have to be uh not here. There’s a thing. I need to go to that thing. Bye!” Stiles yelped the last word as he backed away from his friends and bolted to the football locker rooms.

I’m unlikely to participate, but here are a couple of questions that others might have, too:
What if the writer is not from the US? Even if their hometown has a distinct dialect/accent, that wouldn’t be translatable to English…
Can the hometown be fictional? (To illustrate what I mean: I originally come from a very rural area with a plethora of local myths - which would be a perfect setting for a story - but naming the actual village would feel far too personal. So could a writer make up a fictional place and have it be situated in their region, for anonymity’s sake?)
@janeypro​ had some great questions. Note: This response is sectioned out for ease of reading, not to seem like a lecture. Your questions are valid and I thank you for the opportunity to address them.
1. Writers from outside the US are free to write in whatever language they please. English will get you more readers, but is not a prerequisite for joining the collection.
2.Using dialects and accents is a suggestion on how to make the story reflect your hometown, and is also not mandatory. Mod @poignantlyarrogant​ will be publishing her story twice, once in southern english and once in standard, for those who may have difficulty reading the southern grammar and dialect.Â
3. You are seriously underestimating the ability of apostrophes, different grammar structures, slang, honorifics, and modes of address to convey the distinct speech patterns of a region. Do whatever you can, however you want, and it will absolutely be interesting.
4. If something isn’t translatable to English, don’t translate it. use context clues in the writing to help us understand the sentiment, and maybe leave a note at the bottom if you want to explain. No biggie.
5. We are not asking for the name of your hometown as some sort of elaborate phishing scheme. Mod @poignantlyarrogant​ will be writing about a town called Beacon Hills, as if it was situated in the part of rural Alabama her family is from. “Rural Alabama” is as much information as we expect from participants. We will not be checking to see if you came up with a fictional town.Â
6. This is supposed to be fun, comfortable, and engaging. If you live in Texas now, but spent a semester in Prague for school, you can write about Prague. you can write about Prague even if you’ve never been, no one is stopping you.Â
7. This fic fest is just about seeing teen wolf and the character’s interactions from new perspectives. Have fun, write about what you want to write about, and be kind to one another.Â
