My younger sister makes the argument that she does not like the subtitles because she can’t read, I explained that a lot of people need subtitles because they cannot hear. She can learn to read, but folks can’t learn to hear.
Having subtitles in theatre would also help to account for the fact the like 60% of the time I miss dialogue or cues in the movie because I simply didn’t hear them right, which takes away from the experience
