i think what gets me most about heartcliff is that they're both just... doing their own thing. cliff at this point just exists on a beach; he hasn't moved on yet, but he's moved on enough to be free from the mass beach of war. on a similar note, while heartman has decided to move forward from his past, he's still held to it; his heart is so damaged that he dies every twenty-one minutes naturally, and he spends so much time on the beach, and that means he isolates himself a lot.

they're just two sad men who have lost their wives and children and exist on the beach and keep to themselves and i think that's beautiful and has so much room for emotional potential, is all. it's far from a loud, public thing.
