Good winter wood - hidden away in the Canadian wilderness is this stunning chalet by ACDF Architecture. ‘Chalet La Petite Soeur’ overlooks the vast Lac Ouareau and provides 2 very distinct areas to hideaway from the extreme outdoors. One warm, wooden and cosy, the other cool and minimal. Feels kind of schizophrenic, but in a really good way.

One of my all-time favorite houses located in Oita, Japan House N (2008) by @soufujimoto_official The house itself is comprised of three shells of progressive size nested inside one another. The outermost shell covers the entire premises, creating a covered, semi-indoor garden. Second shell encloses a limited space inside the covered outdoor space. Third shell creates a smaller interior space. Residents build their life inside this gradation of domain. Xólotl House (2018) by Architectural Point located in Merida, Mexico. Casa Xólotl is located in a building within the historic center of the city of Mérida . In a street of low circulation, the wall facing the street, contains a resting house that overturns and contains the visuals inside it. The project arises in a small pre-existing house of one hundred square meters, composed of three bays (social area, kitchen, one bedroom and one bathroom). Within a plot of ten by twenty-two meters, the new program had to house social area with terrace, pool and two bedrooms with their respective bathrooms. Access to the property is positioned at the far right of the first bay, through a lobby that serves as a pause between urban reality and the serene interior environment, leaving room to house a room and a bathroom in the remaining space inside. Private House by @david.chipperfield located in London’s Kensington, off Brompton Road in the Brompton Square Conservation Area. The building’s structure is made of in-situ concrete with a 8.5 in (215mm) brick skin, and precast concrete soffits and sills. The visible concrete has been coloured to match the bricks and has an exposed aggregate finish. All exterior door and window frames are generous in size and made of bronze. The main materials inside include travertine floors, oak doors and fittings, and polished plaster walls. Several rooms have been lined with different materials to emphasise their function: a small alcove-like space on the piano nobile is covered with deep red leather panels; the walls of the spa are patterned with vertical obeche wood strips. Amangiri Resort located in 4 Corners Utah by an all-star squad of architects @masastudio @wendellburnettearchitects Marwan al and Rick Joy. Amangiri is located on 243 hectares (600 acres) in Canyon Point, Southern Utah, close to the border with Arizona. The resort is tucked into a protected valley with sweeping views over colourful, stratified rock towards the Grand Staircase – Escalante National Monument. The resort is a 25-minute drive from the nearest town of Page, Arizona and a 15-minute drive to the shores of Lake Powell. Architecturally, the resort has been designed to blend into the landscape with natural hues, materials and textures a feature of the design. The structures are commanding and in proportion with the scale of the natural surroundings, yet provide an intimate setting from which to view and appreciate the landscape.
