Q: Can you paint us a picture of your family. What did they instill in you, what did you carry with you through your life? What did your childhood freedom look like?
A: I grew up in one normal, humble and true working class family, in Zagreb. My childhood was filled with carefree playtime with friends in the neighborhood, kicking the ball on the school playground, and with exploring the world without many worries. Back then, freedom for me meant spending the entire day outside, completely relaxed. From todayās perspective of sped up time, that seems like a little paradise.
For me, family is the foundation for everything - as cliche as that sounds. Foundation for my bravery, views, attitude towards life and everything that I do. Values that I got from my parents and grandparents are respect, hard work, humility and belief in myself. I watched them live those values and thatās what made me.
Q: If you had to make your psychological profile, how would you describe josko gvardiol? What do you feel the strongest for? Who are you on and off the pitch?
A: What you see on the pitch, is exactly who I am in private life too - thereās no difference. I am motivated and determined. Fully focused on success as a part of a team. While doing so, I feel for others, and thatās what I consider essential. In my opinion, empathy is the highest achievement of human development. I love helping people. I believe in humanitarian work, but it has to be honest.
I mostly feel urge for constant growth and improvement. One could say that Iām ambitious, but healthy amount.
Q: How do you explain life? Are you religious? How do you build your mental strength and do you believe in psychotherapy?
I consider life to be a gift - an opportunity to create, leave a mark and be better day in day out.
I believe that every one of us has their mission and purpose. Iām raised as catholic, but I believe that spirituality can manifest in different ways and everyone can live it differently.
My story is story about work, sacrifices and faith in my own journey.
I think psychotherapy is useful, although I havenāt used it. Caring for mental strength in sport is the key and I support my mental strength with some tools of my own.
