hello hi hello ! i will likely be moving dina over to my MUTLIMUSE blog as a primary / secondary muse because i find it easier to manage three blogs rather than four ! if you would like to continue a thread from this blog over there, please let me know !
my favorite tiny details in tbv:
the newspaper wedged behind the strings of the cello during soraya and haj-butrus because the onstage cellist reads it in the background when the band is off-scene
whenever dina turns the light on or off in her apartment, the light behind the window on the building facade in the background also turns on or off
the sound of birds chirping in the morning during the last scene
dina’s sandals, which she takes off before “it is what it is”, stay onstage throughout the dinner + “the beat of your heart” scene until she comes out and puts it back on before the restaurant + “omar sharif” scene
camal being the only character besides telephone guy who reacts to the phone ringing during “answer me”
more details
when dina sings “sailing in on radio waves” a blue light comes on underneath her arm
similarly, when she says “this is the grass” the light turns slightly green for a second
the ticket girl giving the person in front of Haled a map and pointing where he should go
anna saying in hebrew “i didn’t know papi had friends” before soraya
when the family/band starts banging on the table in the beat of your heart, iris holds the cups to keep them from shaking
also the framed photo of avrum on their wall LOL
the sound of the desert constantly playing in the show and the projections of sand being blown away moving against the set
is anyone gonna talk about zelger smoking pot or do we completely ignore that??????
tewfiq grabbing his hat to go multiple times during sammy and dina’s convo
during papi hears the ocean, anna and zelger are about to make out when julia third wheels them so anna tells her to go to papi
the lady with the oxygen tank walking across stage in waiting, who is she? i wanna know
even more details
you know how dina has that dishtowel that she tucks into her jeans? well papi also has one that he tucks into his jeans in the exact same way
if you look through the door/opening in dina’s apartment, you can see the personal touches in her hallway like a van gogh print and some things that i still can’t tell if they’re jewellery or art pieces but they’re beautiful
camal’s look of surprise when avrum says that he used to play the violin
sam sadigursky playing flute on the roof of one of the buildings during the park scene makes me so emotional every time and idk why
dina dancing with papi at the end of welcome to nowhere and playfully swinging her purse at him the next morning (i stand by that text post that said she’s his mother figure)
there’s this super quick projection of simon that appears behind him while he plays his concerto in front of the café almost like the ghost of the man he used to be when he first composed it
when dina calls to sammy in the restaurant, he tells his wife that it’s probably something to do with the inventory and during waiting, we see him carrying a big crate of inventory to the café
zelger complimenting anna on her skating and anna shouting “queen!” as julia skates by
that moment in itgara’a when dina puts her arms down and just lets herself be absorbed in tewfiq’s singing
sometimes the watermelon splashback from katrina’s chops hits her straight in the face LOL
itzik and simon waving goodbye to one another when the band leaves like that’s so precious how is that allowed??

there is not a lot he could say , always one to spare himself from a declaration of feelings or , even worse , comprising himself through doing just that . it takes a lot of work to undo these parts himself , to be less brittle / less the ice-like person he turned into with the changing of days and the turning of years ; but for the first time it might be worthwhile , might prove itself a worthy cause . an undoing by her hands seems dangerous nearly , someone just as sharp and hidden away as he is , and yet does she find her freedom easier than he does , always a bare foot already in the sand while he remained firmly with his soles on concrete . some people would say that they deserve each other , such unkind persons they are , and he might agree with them would he have not seen all the heart underneath dina’s tough exterior , all the nostalgia and longing wrapped into her keen eyes and the mesmerizing flow of her movements : testaments to all the depth stored inside her . and with it she moved something in him too , unhinging him to a point of no return , where all he could do is allow her access . she is the only one who gets close , got close , and it is why bluntness comes easy with them too , and without any fear of repercussion.
“i have never asked you this before ,” he says into a quiet evening , the sun already set beneath the horizon line and a low hum in the shared presence between the two of them and the moon ( he always preferred nighttime to any other time of day ) . head tilts in a sliver of portrayed emotion , inquiry more than anything else , and gray gaze tips a little as well , focusing on her . “what did you think when we met again , after you knew it was me?”
she sucks carelessly on a watermelon seed; the discarded skin of the fruit on the table beside her a testament to how relaxed she is. normally, dina is alone when she takes to her porch. she cuts herself two slices of watermelon, lets down her hair, and sits by herself until the sun disappears - and then she moves to the couch. tonight, however, she has cut four slices of watermelon. tonight, she is with him, as well as the moon. whether he eats or not is of no concern to her. for the moment present, she has no concerns at all. the moonlight has awakened something gentle in her - something dreamy that she rarely lets others see. it has to be tapped into, but it appears as though frederick has come to her home prepared to dig. once provoked, haze soaked answers will pour fourth from her like honey from a hive. slowly, but sweetly.
her head turns towards him only slightly. her eyes bare all the weight of the question asked, but they don’t dare waver under the pressure. instead, they stay half lidded, tiredly gazing at frederick as if to recognize him all over again. “ i felt like the universe ... like it prank me. “ her voice is as sharp as her honesty, and dina runs a slow hand through her curls. the way the porch slowly becomes a garden around them reminds her that she has made these mistakes before. she has given too much of herself not to strange, temporary men - but to the dreams that make them so attractive. it is only when she goes to speak again that she realizes her gaze has fallen away from him. she lifts it haphazardly, along with the corner of her mouth. she stares at him as if he is in black and white, and she, in a trance. “ but it is like a movie, yes ? a man find a woman again after so long. that does not happen in this life. “
Who is this man, right here beside me?
slams my fist on the table. give dina female muses to interact with
THIS IS HOW IT’S ALWAYS BEEN. : ACCEPTING. : @revivescos
every sense is trained on him. her eyes, of course, gaze at him hazily - but she is aware of him in every way there is to be aware of a person. his weariness tastes sour, his exhaustion heavy upon her palms, but dina continues to take him in; through her nose, out her mouth. there are things she never imagined saying to another person sitting right on the TIP of her tongue. sweet everythings tantalize her tastebuds, daring her to indulge and leap forward at yet another man. when dina drinks him like this, she is almost trying to discern him from the likes of gidon; from the likes of sammy; from the likes of tewfiq; and so on and so forth. none of them have considered her so deeply as he - and now frederick is asking of her the same courtesy. is this a hymn ? a love song ?
‘ i see ... tired eyes . ’ she begins thoughtfully. it is not a critique, but a concern, as dina herself is no stranger to settling hours after the sun. no amount of circadian instinct can break the cycle of someone so stubborn. still, he is the type of tired that makes her want to rock him to rest. his melancholy calls out to her in a way that makes her ACHE, a way that evokes the desperation in her brewing just beneath her breast. it’s the same emptiness that called out to tewfiq; the very one he failed to respond to in a way she could understand. but frederick ... who is this man ? “ you are right here beside me but - still so hard to see. sit in the moonlight, motek. i want to see if i could ... fall in love with a man like you. “

* FREDERICK.
the riddle keeps on and on, spinning itself away inside his mind while she keeps talking and moving and being herself. it reminds him of something distant, maybe a movie he watched when he was younger and still had time and even an inch of joy to do that. or maybe she reminds him of one of his old classmates, but he couldn’t even place where or who exactly ( not to mention how little he cared for those classmates, nothing to drag up now since it wouldn’t help his cause ), so he just lets the inkling feeling reside in his chest and try to put it on the backburner. he is good at that, at ignoring anything that could sway his perfectly and neatly constructed interior and exterior. the pendulum, ever-present, never changing. so, he engages in her small talk, trying himself at something of friendliness. something away from the hostility he usually bestows onto anyone. but this is not new york, he tells himself, and she does not look at him like anyone who has heard of him without seeing him. there is simply no need to be hostile; except that it is so much of his character that is wrapped into the notion.
“i do not think the sun and me will ever be on good footing. i am more prone to be a night-owl,” he replies, eyeing the burnin’ beacon in the sky with a critical eye through his glasses. “so, i’d take you up on the offer of your table. i take it is in a shadier place than the baking heat outside here?” it is the politeness his time in transylvania instilled in him that he is clawing up from where he seemed to lose it more often than not, thought it can only inform his raging honesty instead of replacing it. but he has the feeling that this is fine with the cafe owner and her own brutally sincere ways. ( a match, certainly ). and he gets up to follow her, all his luggage with him, watching her exchange with another person in the café, but he does not pry or try to strain an ear; not that he would understand much he gathers, and just engages when she is talking directly to him. anything to get out of the damn heat, he thinks, anything. “you know, i remember being told this place is the farthest from any hassle a person could be exposed to, and i come to think that this is not so far off. which seems good to me,” a beat in which gray eyes look at her, still puzzling, still figuring out. “i don’t think i’ve even introduced myself by name, frederick frankenstein. thought you’d might want to know who you are helping out.”
HE IS IN HER PERIPHERY as they walk. her eyes, sharp, dart all around the bland landscape surrounding them. dina is known as the most COSMOPOLITAN woman in the entire town. it’s a fancy way of saying she straddles the line between infamous and informative, and an even fancier way of saying she knows every last face in town. as people pass, she either nods, waves, or shouts to them. then, she turns her head slightly to gauge his reaction. she lingers between her conversation with all of bet hatikvah, and her nuanced dialogue with him. ❝ ah, a much shadier place. the lights are a little dim, but still cooler. ❞ her walk is casual. her tongue is casual. she thinks nothing of this, or so she tries to convince herself as she makes effort to stay paces before him. ❝ i do not know who told you that - but no matter what you THINK, i hope you enjoy. ❞ the town is so bleak, her life is so beige. the sand mocks her, the way it dances, and the bricks mock her, the way they stay in one place. she feels her ball and chain dragging especially heavy as they reach the door of her home - and then he says his NAME.
AND THE MELTING FEELING BURNS. it burns her tongue, it burns her throat, it causes her to fully turn her head - and forces her to focus on him once again ( slate eyes, looking right at her. ). her voice drawls on as she sounds out his name. it is noticeably foreign on her tongue, but strikingly familiar in her voice. ❝ fre - der - rick ? ❞ dina stops walking suddenly. something bites at her from within, and she chews her lip in response, feeling the ground shift beneath her. she gently lifts a hand, almost as if to touch him, but stops when it levels with her chest. it is in that pose that she attempts to REMEMBER. her past has always been something that requires a key to access. whether it be music, a film, a face, a name. finally, she speaks again, her fingers curling into a gentle fist before her breast as she steels her voice . ❝ what a funny name. ❞ dina then lowers her hand to wipe it on the towel that hangs from her waistband, offering it to him a moment later. a smile crosses her face. it makes her look years younger, as does the way her eyebrows raise slightly when she speaks, simply saying in response. ❝ you should know who you are staying with. i am dina. ❞
frederick and dina: do anything me:
